Swami-ji, India cannot afford to go against Russia - that will mean Pak, China, Russia all against India. USA will not come and fight to save India. US arms may be superior, but they are 10x more expensive, not free. US businesses don't care which way India votes, they go where they can do business, just look at US businesses in China. The reason US businesses are not investing in India in a big way are the bad tax and labor policies, and the bureaucratic red tape.

India hugely profited by Russian oil by reselling this to the west. This is a senseless conversation because there is a huge amount of trade and investment opportunities. Western companies left Russia, that's a pretty large market to capture using political advantages. The Russians also support weapons bought by India (huge amounts in percentage terms and actual terms) and support India in the UN.
The way China got angry with first visit to Japan, USA definitely will be angry with the recent visit to Russia. And both have consequences and India has to be ready to deal with it.

I think of late opinions expressed against Modi is a little bit too much. I am no blind supporter of Modi. Under Modi Indian economy has done miserable. He has done nothing to help cause of Hindus. He has not been strict where one has to be as an administrator (farm bills, Shaheen Bagh, ...). He cowed down before Qatar on Nupur Sharma case. He did not bring judicial, land, police, ...etc reforms with full majority in last 10 years. He has not done anything on corruption - bringing back black money, completing cases of investigation in scam, fraud, ... and pursue them in the court of law. But on Russia visit, we do not have complete picture of the situation. But we also cannot deny the fact that there was a sort of interference in Indian LS election. While we (general public) do not have proof of it, it still appears so with a host of events where it is suspected that political parties where dancing on the whims of certain elements (largely orchestrated by West - US, part of EU, ..etc. and China included). If NO, then why no gov, opposition and political parties reveal what was in the agreement between CCP and INC? So we cannot slide with US too. Russia's only concern was NATO should not be at the door steps of Russia. And US wanted Ukraine to be part of Ukraine with NATO forces. Besides, it is well known that regime change exercise in Ukraine was carried out with a comedian as head of state. So, all in all I think we cannot blindly support Modi but can't blindly oppose Modi. We have to see what is our (India's) interest in all this.

The US can sanction in their interests. India can choose to abide by, or not. India can also sanction trade with the US, and trade with Russia and China. Are you suggesting that India reverts to buying arms and weapons from Russia and not buy from the West? The Ukraine conflict has proven that - Western weapons and Weapon Systems are superior to the Russian. Historically, the side that has superior weapons has been victorious.
