Modified Petzl Duo head lamp - Ultra bright LED head torch 

Thanks for the comment. The modified Duo is still going strong and working well. I still maintain that it's one of the best head lamps ever made from a durability standpoint. My RXP failed years ago and I've since bought several newer compact headlamps from Petzl and Black Diamond, but the Duo is what gets used every time when I'm wearing a helmet or going into water. The CustomDUO V42 module looks really good.

You'll not be disappointed, it's an excellent upgrade and brings an old lamp right up to date. I love my DUO, it has been on countless adventures and served me well, so it was the least I could do for it! Glad you found the video helpful.

How have you got on with your CustomDuo upgrade?

Just received three of the "Omni Simple" modules yesterday. I installed them into Duo's from 1999, 2007 and 2018, works perfectly in all three. Far brighter even on the lowest setting that the stock bulbs. Going to take them out to some lava tubes in a few weeks to try them out. If they hold up then it will make the Duo the perfect headlamp.

I'm sure you'll be impressed. The Duo is such a solid design these new boards and LEDs make it really hard to beat.

The upgrade kit really does transform the lamp.

@@AJSpinDrift I can see that from your video. In a cave (or a closet) 40 lumens seems like enough. But on a trail or a winter dog walk, it isn't.

Excellent, let me know what you think of it. The programming takes a little bit of messing about with, but once it's set I find I've not had to go back and change anything.

Thanks Maff. I wasn't too sure about doing a video on it considering it's a bit niche, but thought it could be handy for anyone else with an old Duo sat in a box somewhere. I stumbled across the upgrade on a caving forum. The Petzl Duo was/is really popular with cavers and alpine climbers due to it's durability. Some chap set up a company making the upgrade kit and it's genuinely very impressive. As you say, it's great to be able to bring your old favourite kit back to life. It's back to being my primary head lamp.

Sorry @Maff TUK, I've only just noticed that I didn't reply to your question! I needed to be using a head torch in and around water and my Petzl MYO RXP isn't waterproof, so I was going to use my old trusty DUO. The DUO had 5 small (old type) LEDs that offer a modest amount of light, great for in the tent etc, but the halogen beam just wasn't up to scratch, so I was looking for some halogen bulb to LED upgrade kits and stumbled across a caving forum discussing this new board. It was the perfect solution. My MYO RXP has since died due to a common fault they develop due to insufficient strain relief on the main power cable. I've replaced it with something pretty cool that I'll do a review on, but it doesn't beat the performance of the CustomDuo conversion kit.

No I haven't. I imaging that would require a new battery management unit which is currently part of the board.

@@AJSpinDrift in this period I'm trying to create something to adapt two batteries in the box. In my opinion it would buy back a lot. I'll let you know

@@AJSpinDrift I doo not think, the two 18650 replace the 4 stylus. My opinion you just have to find how to adapt the box.

The front lens should screw off quite easily. Hold the lamp firmly and turn the grey surround anti-clockwise. It's easier if you try and start turning at the sides.
