Modified Pontiac G8 GT - (Texas) One Take 

I think the G8 and SS are very under appreciated. Big sedans with big V8s are my favorite type of car.

I delayed buying a G8 GT for 3 years due to the auto transmission. I now own a white G8 GT and regret not buying one sooner. Bogan 4 life!

Dang. I weighed my g37s purchase with the g8. I went with the g37s because the performance was close. But g37s can't be tuned easily. This guy is easily making 100 more whp with very little mods. I chose wrong lol

I just sold my dark grey metallic G8 and this makes me wish I didn't! :( You know you have a nice car when every time you park it you always glance back at it as you walk away. I live in Canada and with winter tires it was a great all year round car. The traction control worked great in the snow.

I'm about to buy the manual wagon version of GXP. Good to hear people still appreciate these type of cars.

I absolutely love this car. In the market for one right now!

I loved the 6.0 liter GTO. The interior was amazing for it's day and it had serious power for late 2005. Having 400hp for a relatively affordable car was unheard of back then. I remember driving one and the tires would chirp everytime the auto tranny would shift and was in utter amazement.

Finally! I've been waiting for Matt to do a "One Take" on a G8 GT. I wanted to hear his constructive criticism on it. Thanks Mike for letting him take yours for a good run. The Aussies made a great balanced RWD V8 as usual. I drive mine year round here in the Northeast and love it.

Regarding the shifting, when you accelerate, you get pushed back into the seat hence pulling back to shift up's more logical. That's why sequential gearsticks work that way. Vice versa when breaking, you get pushed forward so pushing forward takes less effort or balancing with your body.

Gotta respect true car people that literally understand & know/learn things about there car.. Like this guy stated having the ls2 bottom end with ls3 top end & unique cam shaft vs you asking some one "what makes the car so special" & your like "hell idk" then you Are not exactly a car enthusiast if you honestly can't tell some one the difference of the models & what yours does have vs not have.. Take the tme to research & learn your cars & you might be surprised. Awesome video i love seeing the owners facial expressions when you really begin to lean onto it as if there worried there car is going to break down out something lol

I feel this guys the king of pointing out the obvious... you watch the videos and are non the brighter about cars afterwards. Its most interesting to see the types of individuals that own the car. Hear what they know and their actual opinions and facts about ownership. Aside from personal opinions and experience driving a broad range of cars its always good to have actual substance and factual knowledge to share in quality Automotive videos geared for this type of entertainment.

I know people want the gxp but this is probably one of the best dailys. Great looking, enough power to leave the engine mostly alone and still have a lot of fun, room for the family, and for stop and go city traffic that auto transmission... and I still want the gxp

You guys worried about G8 supply in future dont worry, Chevy SS is just the newer GXP G8 currently being sold w LED lighting and nicer guts, Also US police 'Caprice' (Saudi Luminas) L-76 cars will be at auction for $8-10k all day long pretty soon for the ultimate rental Sleeper

If this was shot in Australia it's likely the owner would've removed the badges and replaced them with Chevrolet ones. #boganlyfe

Great One Take, pleasantly surprised to see a G8 - mods are almost the same as mine. The tune from Pat G is how the car should have been from the factory.

if you have steered one you would understand the comparison. sweet turn in. chatty steering, sweet powerdown, excellent damper control. and loves an arm full of oppy lock. well the commodore ss does. and that's what this is.

I always wanted a G8! Too pricy for a car that old though, bc, it'd have to be the GXP!

absolutely, Matt, that shifter is backwards! way funner to kick the auto-stick backwards for the next highest gear, then trying to push it forward. much more natural feeling the other way around. almost a deal-breaker for me, and i'd take the auto-stick (in the right config.) over a couple of stupid paddles as well! and that's that, jack!

Fuck'n Straya! ... However while I used to like the VE Commodore, I'm always cautious around them 'cause they're cop cars... Also, BK Performance Wheels have two-toned them and turned them into the iconic bogan car of choice... This dude's "Pontiac" is pretty cool, would have been better if it was manual :)

5:55 "... that really masks speed." You have no idea. I let my father borrow mine to go to Indy and he was merging onto the interstate at a 105 mph before his passenger asked "Who are you racing?". Very fast, very fun, very underappreciated and very sadly missed.

I've been waiting for the G8 GT one take for some time, glad a fellow G8 owner knew his stuff :) Side note, G8 owners hate when you ask/call it a G6, so don't.

G8 gt to this date is the best car all around that I have driven. Power and balance like no other car in its class/weight for the price.

hey i have a solo mach exhaust in my solstice. actually drove up to their shop in ny and they put in the exhaust and downpipe. same day i got the trifecta tune. week before i put falken tires on it. anyways went up their with 260hp and drove hone with 340hp. what a fun weekend. the solo mach is nice because its not crazy loud and annoying.

If Pontiac had lasted a couple more years, they would have brought the great looking Sportwagon over here. Wish they would've released the Ute before closing its doors.

I bought a brand new 09 G8 GT in 2008, still have it, it's tuned, got ram air induction and a few other things, I had the resonators taken off, don't know the HP but it's fast. It's got about 138,000 miles on it and runs like a top. I'm going to look into a Solo axel back system, the drone still drives me nuts after almost 8 years, haha!

It was the "best Pontiac ever made" because Pontiac didn't make them, Holden Australia did. Quality control at Holden was the tightest of all GM divisions because the car market in Australia is so fragmented plus we have more makes of car from all over the world here (more makes of cars than in the US) so the locally built cars had to offer good prices, heaps of standard "extras" and build quality as good as what the Japanese produce. Sadly GM US decided to kill Holden manufacturing a couple of years ago, making it an import-only group selling GM Korea (heaven help us!) and rebadged Opels. I suppose GM realised they made a mistake because the local backlash against the company has been frightening! Holden at one stage had nearly 60% of local sales. Nowadays that's down to single figures! Serves you right, Mary Barra (GM CEO).

Houston Texas? I've got a 86.5 Porsche 928 just down the road if your itching to drive another one. Its the last of the old body cars. I might even be able to throw a line out and find a GTS with a cool owner to put you in touch with.

Some guy at my college got one of these. Sounds badass. Not sure of the model but def, Pontiac G8.

I don't get why car manufacturers keep making the shifters backwards. On VWs they are backwards, on Porsches they are backwards, on Audis they are backwards, but on a much more pedestrian Mazda it is the right way round.

This uses the Zeta platform which is also whay underpins the Camaro.Which also underwent testing in Australia.

totally agree with what he said about the shifter..i have a b6 s4 with triptronic. ..up is shift up...I think it's backwards. ...should be sequential style.

The best Pontiac is a Holden! I really liked the Holden Commodore VF that I drove for a few weeks down in Aus even with a V6, I really want to find a G8, SS or even a PPV Caprice to have some fun with.

I've got a 2009 405 rwhp g8 gt you could drive if you come to alabama. I have to give it to Holden. They designed a great car. I discovered my first Holden part when I replaced the washer pump.

I considered getting a G8 GT in 2008 before the GXP came out and completely wrote it off because it was only available with a slushbox. Bought my WRX in 2009 and have been VERY happy with it but am considering moving on to a V8 RWD car. Being a family man and the fact this thing has four doors and big trunk (my Subaru may as well have a second glove box for a trunk, yes its that bad) I may need to put these back on my radar. Would still prefer a manual but I don't think the prices on the GXPs are coming down anytime soon.

2:10 "This is like a BMW E39 M5" . Reportedly the design team bought a BMW 5 series, and had it physically located in the design studios. Later the VE( 97/98 Commodore) SS's suspension was final tuned at the Nurburgring. BMW test their cars there. These are pretty much facts. My supposition is that this car was lent design inspiration from BMW under a royalty agreement. So many have said it rides like a BMW M5. My belief is it *is* an M5 essentially.

You were sort of right, it is somewhat a commodore but its actually a lot better. With holden they have their normal company and normal cars which the commodore is one, then they have this other thing called HSV (Holden Special Vehicles ) where they have their suped up cars that basically have the same look as the commodore each car in the HSV range has something a little different added looks wise anyway. The pontiac gt is more like the HSV GTS or maybe a Clubsport R8

To be honest I prefer the more VE Commodore a bit more than the VF. Reckon it looks tougher, not too modern and I like the simple interior. Doesn't detract too much from the driving experience too.

Own the Aussie SS version of this, great car for the money, but they are really sluggish below 4K rpm in stock form, I know you can liven it up with a tune and cam but God dayum it drinks fuel enough as it is can't imagine with a cam and tune

at some stage you need to come to Aus and drive a FPV. People are having HUGE results with a tune. Still love my commodores, my mates ls1 VY Screams like it was the devil. Both good cars, and Imo, different applications. Oh and you have to drive a V8 Ute!!! just do it on a track ;)

Hi I'm from New Zealand we have heavy holden following here they are now being built in Europe they are awesome cars to drive I own the first generation Maloo running R17 x 225 driven by 5.0Ltr V8 I would still like a Camaro to go with the Chevy 1966 impala

All they need is bolt ons and tune, and some 342 or 373 gears and its good to go.

If only they could have the Ford Falcon XR6 turbo over there, he would love it to bits

I guess he can change the links to the gearshifts to make it right. it looked so stupid when he pushed up the lever to shift up hahah. glad they got it right in bmws and I even preffer pushing it to the right to shift up and left to shift down in a old mercedes. pushing it up to shift down makes perfect sense because of the g forces. the other way is just wrong to me.

Awesome, awesome cars. Cars like this are a dying breed: N/A V8, large wheelbase, relatively lightweight, IRS, manual option, relatively low price, etc. The SS sedan is an excellent replacement, however. Pick one up while you can!
