modifying a kayak seat to fit long legs

my Current Design Sirocco kayak cockpit opening was too small for my long legs to fit into the kayak, so I had to do a DIY modification to the seat and move it back a few inches to account for my long legs and allow easy access. before my legs wouldn't fit into the cockpit from the seated position, but after a few cuts and using basic tools, I was able to move the seat back a few inches and now I can get in and out like a regular sized person :)

Thanks, I'm glad it worked :). I'm pretty stoked about the sail getting here too. I'm thinking about maybe taking the kayak to the Texas 200 instead of the windrider, the next few weeks are pretty busy and everything is in a questionable state, but I'm still planning on being there, somehow.

Moving the seat back will change the performance characteristics, but not always for the worse. The boat may be more prone to turning downwind, which becomes dangerous when home is upwind. You can mitigate this by loading your water and most dense gear immediately ahead of the front bulkhead. You can also adjust the pitch by bending forward a little at the hips. I weight the bow of my touring boat slightly to help that end get down a wave on a Big Wednesday. This has the further advantage of pulling the tail out of the wave slightly, making it easier for me to get the tail unstuck when it comes time to turn. IFL physics. Edging breakdown: You are sitting at a bar daydreaming of paddling and someone sits down next to you but you really want your space so you put your weight on the butt cheek away from the person, sneak a fart at them, hold that position, then turn your body and head to look at them. Try that a few times each side, and at least once without turning to look. Does the boat get up on an edge? Is there more of an edge when you make eye contact or less? Using my thighs to adjust course is exhausting so I try to only engage the thigh braces to keep butt in boat. Let the thighs do the important work of driving the boat forward and protecting that femur for post-apocolypse use.

Yeah, getting your knees hung up while trying to get out while upside-down and underwear would definitely be a safety factor! I'm glad I finally fit in this thing :)
