The affordable compression tester kits come with adapters that don't have their own check valves (Schrader) in the adapters and rely on the one in the hose. This adds the adapters volume to the chamber yielding an inaccurate compression reading, especially on small engines. This is how I remedied that.
Replacement valve cores for gasoline compression testers with low pop off pressure are easy to find.

I tested compression on a Stihl blower that has 10mm spark plug threads. With a thread adapter on my compression tester I got 100 PSI. With a hose that has the schrader valve right there in the tip of the threads I got 160 PSI. So I had a 60 PSI difference between tests. Does that sound right?

Not sure if I understood you. Most 2 cycle chainsaws operate at 110 psi on a compression test. Anyway that's according to the repair guides.

Most are much higher, 110psi is the minimum spec to run, even then it would be hard to start. The point of this video is the fixing the incorrect low reading due to the chamber volume added by these adapters.

@@srcarr52 I understand what you are saying. They will run at a 110 psi. It's when they 90 psi the engine starts losing power. The part you are modifying is a standardized part clear across-the-board. In most of the cheap sets the pressure gauge leaks. I test my compression tester by using an air compressor. If the compression tester reading is equivalent to to the line out gauge it's good to go. Brand new the saw should read 140 psi, but after a season it will read lower, if they have been really worked. If you question the reading on a cheap compression tester go to O'Reilly's, Auto Zone, NAPA, or Advanced Auto and rent one. Most likely theirs will be Innova, SnapOn, or MAC. Second eRepairClinic powerful by eReplacement Parts has a lot videos and a small engine tech, who will answer your questions. Point to ponder all the parts for compression testers and testers are made in China. Just different assembly lines.
