Romain Tranchart and Yann Destal (Destagnol) are the two guys behind the hit Lady (Hear Me Tonight). In a documentary made by FRENCH WAVES, they describe the birth of the song and the success of the band Modjo.
Agreed and I find that very interesting in context of their decision to play as a live band while touring as opposed to any other method of performance. I get the sense that they possibly felt they aren't "real musicians" unless they're playing an instrument on a stage. I wonder what Modjo would have continued on like if they'd decided to pick up DJing before that tour...
I’m only surprised they didn’t mention it ..like I was curious how they came up with that song ..I mean it was a minor US hit and I don’t see any chart records for “soup” in the UK …
@@Alfred_English Good point. I've known this song since it first came out (I was 13 at the time) and I always thought these guys were like Daft Punk. DJs who produced music, until recently. I was surprised to see that they're actually a band - wonder if that hurt their career. The live version of 'Lady' is good but it's nothing like the actual studio version.
Should have been mentioned that - "The single was created under guidance and heavy recommendation from Thomas Bangalter, who suggested the sample to Modjo."
very interesting, so in effect half of daft punk made the song and when modjo later tried to find their own samples they made drivel like "What i mean" :/
This is the most incredible thing that I didn't even imagine to watch in 2020. Thanks to not forget the millions fans that we still remember this and loving them, Yann and Romain. Please give the Modjo back!
That song still means a lot to me. Came out when I was turning 18 and I was in love with both the music and videoclip. Made me feel like the whole world was ready to be discovered by me.
Es increíble pensar que no fueran djs los integrantes de Modjo y que así hubieran sacado chops y cortes tan frescos y bien hechos. Se les extraña másters 😢
Some radios still plays Lady when it's summer, so I listened to their full album and like they said, I expected some sampled electronic music but instead I've found a lot of musicianship there and I wondered why such a good band like this stopped making music. Kinda sad to see that's a bit the reason behind it and I hope they release another album someday. If anyone haven't listened to it yet, don't lose more time and do it, you won't regret it.
I'm so glad to see that in 2020-2021, people still like listening to Modjo ! I still remember listening to this track on the radio I was just 9 years old!
A song that still remains a pure childhood memory in me still till this day! The whole album I can’t live without listening to once in a while! So glad to see where Modjo came from and how things were developed :)
This song is my childhood. Reminder of my good days... There are videos of Yann singing acoustic version and each one of these performances are amazing. I bought their album from music store for a few bucks in 2002 and i still have that CD. I wish they made more music.
How come did Is just discovered this now? Modjo has been part of teenager to adult life. So I will always have fond memories. Chillin' is still my jam and the acoustic version of Lady and Chillin' still give me chills :) I wish I could listen to Romain solo project. I guess it is about 10 years old now? It was in MySpace back at the time.
There are songs that touch you forever, this lady changes my mood when I lay down, and shows me the importance is the music for me. thanks for all this music MODJO.

First time I heard that in 2000 , I could not believe the beauty of it. No song+video hurts nostalgia hard as this, specially when you were same age as they are in it. Of course it peaked fast as song no.1 back then. Thanks to this duo
Guys, I would like to say thank you for such incredible masterpiece. This song comes along with my life for 20 years now. And I realised that you were the lads who sold the car only in 2019 👐
What's interesting to me is how lucky they got! They happened upon a way to loop segments of Chick's "Soup for one" which lay the fundament of the whole song, similarly Stardust sampled Chaka Khan. Guess there was a limit to how long this could be fresh approach too.
0:53 well in that case this song was most likely recorded in 1999 (As the wikipedia page for their album states the songs on it, were recorded 99-00), but was released in 2000.
Where was modjo-lady music video filmed ?? Was it somewhere in Quebec ?? Must of been somewhere in a Canadian city since there was Canadian money. I was 19 when this song came out and I’ve loved it ever since 👍🏻
I was obsessed whit this track and its video did some research and found this www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1g9wR_Zo2l7lf6GkVEG8IxDYeKeg&ll=46.128633936482004%2C-73.39782624804263&z=11
