Mods in Video Games 

Mods dont kill games, its just a sign that it’s nearing its lifespan and taking pills inorder to extend it

As a former and recovering Hoi4 player, the game is only fun with mods. I rarely see anyone play without mods for Hoi. Although this is probably an exception because paradox is a weird dev team.

In my eyes, if a game gets boring, mods bring it back. It's like necromancy.

Mods extend game life. I myself got into programming because of my love for minecraft mods. I was only an artist before, but with the combination of my art, learning modeling, and programming, I delved very deep. I then shared my work with others, and have built a small community around that. Others begin try texturing, modeling, animating, etc. they begin their own creative projects, and they grow their skill set. And then I find the most dedication I have is to modded MC servers and such. There is a limit to vanilla mc, and as a creator, I yearn for the variety and diversity that mods bring. I find them to be an amazing community (when its not nexus nude mods of course 💀)

One of the games that I've seen having a really good modding community is Celeste. Its modding tools are super easy to get and use, plus there's maps out there for every skill level. Most people probably don't get mods obviously, but an extremely large portion of players do once they've finished the base game (or even before that). The biggest and most popular mod came out last year, Strawberry Jam, and it's basically just celeste 2 with literal hundreds of hours of content. The Celeste modding community has done a really good job in keeping the game alive and getting new members, since a lot of people see GM +2 gameplay and go "Wow that's cool I should get that"

I feel like most mods all but require knowledge of the base game first. While this it unsuitable to use mods when starting a game, when you're more seasoned then these mods can just add more game.

As a person who's pc committed die right before I got the chance to get into roblox. They certainly hurt to know I can't have them

Yeah no yeah, no yeah. You expressed really well a lot of what I've seen in and with mods, and I think you did well with the kid/dad/gun metaphor to talk about the life and death of games. Lots of people talk about mods like they're *just* community-made extensions of the game or *just* a benefit, but, no, yeah, they are representative and even a part of the games death. Although I have a much more pro-vanilla, anti-mods view than you do, I really enjoyed this overview and I thought your personal experiences were well placed and super helpful to making me understand your point

As someone who was obsessed with the "Gallery of the Dragonborn" mod for Skyrim, I don't think i can agree with this take

Rounds, minecraft and terraria are a blast with mods, honestly i think the lethal company mods are mostly kinda mid or trash, it just needs a lot more time to get interesting mods that have like a bit of a bigger content pack in them that works together with itself.

For me, partially, Terraria is the main culprit to blame in this regard, I forget the name of that huge overhaul mod tons of people use, but I'm comfy and familiar with everything I know in the base game, and for me, that's enough, I don't wanna go tearing my head out adding another 2-3-4-5-6 progression steps, it just doesn't feel right either cause they don't really fit the base style of the game either, for every other game it's kind of the same way, unless it's a QOL mod like adding SMAPI to Stardew-valley and permanently tweaking your speed to +2 cause you have two stacks of coffee and just don't wanna go through the hassle to drink it every 3 minutes, and the only game that breaks the niche factor for mods has to be Minecraft, everyone is familiar with the art style, and a few of the core concepts, but it's a game of creativity, so at some point you might have thought of "Why can't I do this?" sort of thing, add anything and everything or not at all sorta' thing.

personally i feel like the only game that needs mods is minecraft. Games like terraria, skyrim, etc dont need them because they are pretty fleshed out. Not to say that i dont like modding terraria! i love terraria mods! Most (good) mods for it just end up building upon whats already there, such as maybe adding a few bosses at different stages of progression.

I’m the guy who has to play modded Minecraft. For me, the vanilla aspect is just bland to me so mods adds the replayability for me. It adds a whole new experience each time. I will say that too many mods can overwhelm a person and demotivate them to play it as it can be too much to learn or play.

Morrowind with Mods make a great game legendary. You put 1000 hours into a game and mods just adds endless more to your journey. At least that's my take.

Good editing. I subscribed because i see promise of a great channel if you keep up. To add to the discussion would i like to mention minecrafts community and how they are starved for content. Many people will complain at mojang for being lazy and not adding enough stuff. Not realizing that not everything need to be about content. Sometimes what reserves a product the best is not contaminating it with with more then enough content.

Game developers hate mods. They made a game and you should play the way they say you should play. Modding a game Is like free DLC and no one wants that. Seriously its your game MOD IT play it how you like and when those EULA's say its against TOS tell them to sod off!
