I wish there was a PSP 3000 screen mod to make it better. Mine has the 'dark oval' issue. and a reduced pixel grid /scanline would be good by doubling the resolution like the GBC's IPS mod

Having a modded PSP is gold! It can play basically all the handhelds and in color on a larger screen. It's great! I just haven't figured out how to ad Game Genie codes while playing. Have you any info on where to do that?

I did two og gba's with the ips-v2 screen. It was very easy to do and only needs 3 wires to be soldered, but that's optional if you want to be able to control the brightness. Did one sp aswell and that only needs 1 cable to be soldered.

I have a firmware modded PSP that I use for emulation mainly. I did a McWill screen mod on my Sega game gear that I have had since I was a kid, best purchase ever! Marco is a super nice guy and sent me some alternate solder points for the screen mod when I contacted him!

I’ve done the McWill LCD mod for the GameGear and I have a BennVenn LCD on the way for the Lynx model 2. Can’t wait to breathe new life into the system. I’ve thought about modding my GameBoys but since I have a AGS-101 I’ve waited. My husband surprised me at PRGE one year and got me a modded NGPC. I love it.

Awesome video I just did a video yesterday about my McWill upgraded Game gear on my channel. I agree with you 100% the handheld consoles of the 80s and 90s are even better once refreshed with a new screen and better capacitors. I plan on doing my Neo Geo pocket as well as my Atari Lynx.

I modded my neo geo pocket to a new PCs screen via console5, they were very helpful and I was able to do it myself. It really brings new life to my neo geo pocket.

soft mod a ps vita is better in my opinion, particular for playing ps1 games (and you can find ps vita for so cheap now days..) But yeah a psp 2000 or 3000 are nice and smaller than a psvita 2000.

I can totally agree with the McWill screens for the Lynx. Mark Little from the Lynx Game By Game Podcast has one modded and one not, I've played both side by side, and the difference is night & day.

I just went and preordered an "aioli" kit from bennvenn. Can't wait! I'm looking to do some recaps on the sound circuit as well, as my GBC has developed a nasty hum on it's output when using the headphone jack.

Mmm, tempted to put a backlit screen on my ancient Gameboy brick. I’ve had it since 89 and it still works! They were built like tanks because that poor thing has been dropped, lugged around in school bags and had things spilt on it more times than I care to remember!

The first GBA I ever owned (a gold Pokemon edition back in 2003), was modded with a factory AGS-101 screen. Loved that thing so much.

I just ordered a replacement screen for my Neo Geo pocket color. Just waiting on the mail for it. From what I saw online it takes just a few minutes to install and no shell modification.

I've been using a combination of Retro Modding and Boxy Pixel. BP makes machined aluminum shells and buttons for the GBA and GBC. I put together a black anodized aluminum GBA with brass buttons, an IPS display, glass screen, and a lithium-ion battery. It looks amazing.

It was the Game Boy Color which wasn't able to be backlit from what I recall. I'd recommend you check out the channel "This Does Not Compute" as he has tons of videos on Game Boy mods.

Recently modded my NGPC. The improvement is amazing, and was pretty easy. I definitely recommend doing it. Also the new gba ips screens are so much better than the previous backlit mod

I've just started getting into modding. Easiest thing one can do is a simple re-shell. The others are easy to figure out if you watch tutorials on RU-vid or on the respected sites. Couple of my favorites are Handheld Legend and Retro Game Repair Shop. Also, getting parts on eBay is usually much cheaper once one has an idea of what they're looking for.

I just recently modded my original Gameboy dmg-01. I put a backlight, hex inverter and polarized screen in just two days ago. It was very simple for someone new to soldering. I am now planning to mod another dmg-01 with the IPS screen.

For my 21st birthday I got a 3ds mod from Japan that lets me get direct video capture from my 3ds through mini-usb & proprietary capture software. It's definitely a gem of my collection. I later got a softmodded 3ds XL a while back and it was chock full of awesome GBA stuff available to Nintendo's Ambassador program in the early days of the 3DS and its weak sales. It's also region free which is amazing because I love collecting DS games which are usually still pretty cheap. It's not hard to add or update software for custom backgrounds and delisted or current eshop games, which makes it very user friendly. I gotta say, with access to both DS and 3DS carts, a fantastic huge screen as well as rock solid GBA and SNES emulation, the softmodded 3DS XL might be my favorite handheld of all time.

I was just researching backlighting my GB Advance! I must do that someday - built in rechargeable batteries would be great too. Back in the day I had a rechargeable battery pack accessory that even had a charging stand, but the batteries are long pooched now.

I saw a midded game boy pocket. It had backlit screen (which jp had a version that did that anyway) tempered glass and also a lil chip that helps with the contrast. Really makes the image pop

Personally I would recommend the Freckleshack for modding your GBC. The install process is a lot more streamlined than other screen mods.

I remember going through so many AA batteries from 1991 onward until I finally got a GAME Boy Advance SP in the early 2000s. Such a huge difference playing not only a rechargable handheld, but one that almost plays at 16 bit ( more like 12-13 ish ). Always wanted the Nomad.

Really interesting mods and maybe I might do those some day. But first I want to do is to get some screen damaged systems, as part of me wants to keep original consoles in their original condition if they are in good condition. Though I do have purchased GBA which waiting for me to install Game-tech's GBAConsolizer HDMI mod. I really love all these mods as they really bring new life to retro consoles.

I've got 3 handhelds modded with Aluminum shells from BoxyPixel and they are so AMAZING. BoxyPixel isn't cheap but so worth it if you like quality, very worth a check out.

I remember hearing that due to how the hardware in the Game Boy Color is that there was no room for any kind of backlight to be modded in and that only a front light (like what the original model of the Advance SP had) mod would be possible, but behold there it is. Love how that mod looks and it honestly makes me want to get one because of how nice it looks. Also having audio/video out (preferably HDMI) would be so cool. I can just imagine playing Pokemon Crystal on my HD TV.

BennVenn has a bunch of mod screens for portables. He gained a following in the Gameboy scene and then started supporting the Atari Lynx. His kits are cheaper than McWill's but they do not support VGA-output. He also has an SD card solution for the Lynx so that brings the platform up to having 2 such solutions [the other awesome one from SainT/RetroHQ who also made a NeoGeo Pocket SD adapter and is releasing a Jaguar SD adapter shortly]...
