I actually used 70% of the cables included with my Corsair RM750 power supply! Oh, and finally you advertised a good company (I mean other that HotSpot shield!). Corsair is a good company for PSUs!

I have a cooler master m2 720w semi-modular psu and I'm happy with it. Only thing I don't like is it is not "Silent", even under low load.

I've got Corsair RM 850 fully modular PSU for my AMD + Crossfire power-hungry system. The fan at gaming loads doesn't spin at all. That's silence!

am i like the only guy who prefers non modular because when you lose some cables you may be screwed and on non modular you don't have to take care and store the left over cables

I bought myself a fully modular psu. but i think they placed something wrong in it because the 24p connector is too near on the side so i had problems to put it into the holes for cable managament but i got it somehow. but what i dont know is, why they have split the connector on the psu into an 24p and an 8pin one. i dont understand where all the cables go but ok...

No offense, but the ONLY power supply that has died on me in all the years I've built PCs was, in fact, a Cooler Master. They make great cases for the price though.

Great video Linus. Basically, semi-modular and fully-modular PS's are for enthusiasts who prioritize aesthetics and a seemingly minimal boost in airflow. Non-modular PS's are 100% ideal for a budget rig like the secondary one I just built

Fully modular is easily the best and worth your money. If your power supply ever fails just unplug the cables and put the new one and and reattach the cables. If a cable fails or needs to be replaced just swap it out with another cord

Thinking to get a 850 watt semi-modular PSU so I have some "future proofing" if I want to SLI in the future or just overclock my current system. It is a bit overkill for an i5 and a gtx 970 but I plan to upgrade in the near future and will want to keep as many components as possible possibly minus my case, gpu, and psu, and mobo etc.

I actually prefer non-modular PSUs because they have all the connectors I need right there. I had a semi-modular PSU before, misplaced the box in a storage room somewhere, and then I can't get the 2nd PCIe wire that I need.

modular is garbage, man. i put modular cables in the box one day my mum threw it in a trash bag. now i lose every cable i want to use later.

Be honest with yourself - you really have no way of knowing, save dissecting the caps - and even then, it may require in-depth chemical analysis.

I just upgraded my power supply to get a GTX 760, and I had got a CX500 by Corsair, and a msi GTX 760. Totally wroth it, and I've never upgraded a PC before, my first time. Thanks to linus build guides I did it without the manual... because there wasn't any.

Modular PSU is really anoyng if you lose half the cables... as i did... it can be quite hard to find replacement.. well it was when i tryed.. maybe better now. On the positive side.. i bought my modular PSU 7 years ago, and i still use it.

I always choose the non modular version because there is some space between the power supply and the hard drive cage. You also can put all the cables under your hard drive or use the nzxt method and put a shield over the psu section. Why spending 10 to 20$ more for a modular power supply when you could hide your cables in the case?

Another good thing about fully modular is if one of the cables breaks it can easily be replaced instead of buying a new power supply.

Found out the hard way. I never hear of the inviting mistake of swapping cables from one PSU manufacturer to another PSU. I hoard. I save everything, and I have shoeboxes full of cables. I never thought I would need to worry about compatibility, as long as the plug fits the socket. I ruined two SSDs by making this assumption. One was new. It sucked! I can't believe this is not talked about, or that BOLD warnings are not labeled right on the PSU along with other tech data and warnings.

Remember that video about anti-static and how you said the outside of the bag wasn't electrically resistant and it absorbed electricity and static? WELL... you need to do another video and go back on that, BECAUSE the inside of an anti-static bag is made out of the same dang material as the outside of the bag! Test it. Put up one of those things for testing for a static charge and you'll see the outside of the bag is totally resistant to electricity/static. SAME THING TO PEOPLE WHO THINK THE OUTSIDE OF THE BAG ABSORBS STATIC! Actually TEST it!

I personally like modular as it eliminates clutter and is far easier to navigate and you can actually get a modular PSU for a reasonable price I got mine for about $70 but that is money well spent in my mind as it's served me so well hell the only reason why I'm considering buying a new power supply is the age of my old one I dont want it to fry my hardware

Funny, the PSU, that V-series in his sponsor ad, was the same one I got as an RMA replacement from Cooler Master (because they apparently can't simply replace a fan in my original psu), and it failed on me within 3 DAYS! So much for "Top-of-the-Line"...

Your thought that you could RMA your PSU without all your cables, in the case of a modular PSU, is normally wrong. I used to work for a distributor and we will not accept an RMA on an item that did not come back with ALL accessories. And some manufacturers even reject RMA without the darned box, to make matters infuriatingly annoying. But maybe some manufacturers are more lenient?

Someone told me once that even fully modular PSUs CANNOT be swapped out, as the cables for the new one WOULDN'T match the existing cables in your case. Is that true, or were they lying to me?

Modular PSU's are better for cable management, so to me, when building a computer, cable management comes in for me to make sure the cables don't touch the fans, especially the CPU cooler and the case fan. Mostly, I would be buying Corsair-brandes PSU's if I were to build a computer.

my bro gave me his old (but better than mine- that only needs 1x6pin) and lacking a duel 6pin into the card cable he gave me his- and the 8pin pci-e modular plug was different to my powercool plughole shape config. the cable 8pin was labeled "type 4". i assume my powercoll just lacks it or its a brand incompatibility issue with the cable i was given- which i think was a corsair. i read of power blowouts due to cable mixing so i guess i'd have to order a separate powercool compatibe pci-e to 6+2 cable to power the card. that said i SHOULD have had all cables included with the psu, so i either lost a spare pci-e or only got one. next time i may just get a non moduler with max options as my next case will be a atx instead of a cm 120.

A tip: Don't skimp on your power supply, its the heart of your system and a bad one can kill components. And just get (semi) modular. It will save a lot of hassle with closing side panels and zip ties for a few bucks extra.

Hi, I'm about to order the following parts for my 1st PC build. Its not a bad thing to ask a few experts whether my build will be good or there should be somethings to consider etc. I dont have a plan to overclock my CPU and go for an SLI config (maybe in the far future) and as of now, these are the components good for the budget (GPU to follow). Semi Modular (TX650M) or Fully Modular (RM650X) also note that fully modular costs extra like 70$ so TX650M costs 120$ here and RM650X costs about 180$ or even 200$ in some places like Amazon. You should see my crazy ass precision t3600 im building you know how some pc builders when they are making test units they screw it to a piece of wood thats literally my PC haha its mainly stock and it has 20GB its gonna be a low end gaming PC it only has to play old games like gta 4

If you want less cables and if you build PC in aquarium go with modular. If you do anything else buy normal Power supply. You will pay less and get more. Less connection less chance to something start smoking... I have 30 dollar PSU and Modular prices at 100 bucks... Modular is choped crossed wires ground and mixed Sata Molex connectors with PCI power connectors and works fine now... But Now it has more cables than any non modular PSU... And before voltage drop TO GPU was from 11.7 to 10.7. And it was only two years old or 4 years newer than this video produced... Buy normal PSU Thank me later for not having Kernel POWER GPU TDR error, Random restarts and so on...
