Leaky Shower Valve Repair.
In this video I'm replacing the Moentrol 3570 Shower Control Valve's Core. The Cartridge used in this video is an OEM Moen 1225B Cartridge.
(The 1225 is packaged for commercial use, where as the 1225B is packaged for retail sales, otherwise they are the same valve cartridge)
When I went hunting for this valve, which seems to have mysteriously disappeared from hardware store shelves, I picked up a small tube of plumbing valve grease, to ease the installation. I ended up purchasing the cartridge online. My total investment was just shy of $30, and takes only a few minutes to do.
Typically, I'm doing some sort of vehicle repair, but today it's a shower control valve.
This is a Moentrol temperature control blending valve. (The type that keeps you from being scalded from a toilet flush)
The valve, previously, even had water spraying out from behind the knob!
Tools needed are #2 Philips screw driver, 5/16 Flat Blade screw driver, Needle Nose pliers, and a Flashlight.
First step is to turn off the water supply! Shutting of the SUPPLY LINES to both the hot and the cold supply, negates the need for the flat blade screw driver, and the need to turn either of the hot or cold control valves. Otherwise, this is a very easy DIY repair, on THIS specific valve. (If you aren't sure what valve you have, try taking a clear picture of it and drop the image into google search to help you identify yours)

I do most, if not all repairs, with tools that I carry around in my overloaded 1997 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. I perform "On-Site" braking and suspension repairs, amongst other diagnostics and services. My tools consist mostly of Craftsman, a few Stanley, Snap-On, Husky, Pittsburgh, and S&K tools. Scan tools include hand held Actrons, DVOMs, and test lights. I also currently use a Zurich ZR Pro, for advanced and bidirectional diagnostics as well as a Snap-On Verus Pro, for more detailed diagnostics. I'm always expanding my collection, based on need and convenience.
