I commented on this song a year back and would like to once again comment on just what a great song this is. The why i like it so much is just the choice of instruments, the effect of the slide guitar, heavy deep bassline, distorted rotary speaker organ would quite like to know more about what type of organ it is precisely, the drum beat fits it perfect along with all the atmospheric noises. the song is to chill out to, quite simply, i guess you could say it is thought provoking... take care x
Mogwai writes their songs by focusing on the feelings and ideas that the subject invokes in them, and attempting to convey those through the moody and character of the music (the "moody ambient elements" you cited). In this instance the listener is meant to feel the way the musician feels when they think about Stanley Kubrick. While obviously this won't hold true for everyone, and it may not be in your taste, the attempt is admirable and without pretension.
This is amazing. Never seen this video, but a huge fan of Mogwai, and can't stop watching this... music fits perfectly, and brings me back to 2001: A Space Odyssey every time I watch.
Been a fan of this band since idunno. 1999?isaw them live in '04 at a stadium show. Rocked. They opend the show for a half dozen bands and then the cure headlined. Mogwai out performed all. The seats shook when they performed.
@@Daruudes never as I was in a deep depression during those times. Don’t know why I let myself do that to myself but here we are now just trying to enjoy life as it comes
@@Daruudes goodluck Ry best of luck. It can be a time where I felt I was waisting time except I thought abt it in the way that it took me that long to heal. Don’t wanna sound cliche but really hope things get better for you.
An amazing video for beautiful, relaxing piece of music, the video and music go together perfectly I think. Anyway, Mogwai and Stanley Kubrick (RIP) ROCK!! Enough said.
They had an entire sounds track in the film Zidane: A 21st Century film I saw it and it was truly and beautiful, artistic view of football with an amazingly soothing soundtrack from these guys.
came here via Ian Rankin- The Falls. I love Sigur Ros and this sounds very similar, which is great. I'm not saying anyone is copying anyone else, the more the merrier, but what do Mogwai fans suggest listening too to get a good feel for the band?
+nanookmoose In my opinion, the Mr Beast and Rock Action albums both provide quite a good look at the band, and have a reasonably diverse sound. If you like what you hear, also check out the band Mono.
+nanookmoose Listen to This Will Destroy You, specifically Young Mountain and Another Language, those albums are great. And if you`re keen to listent to 20 minutes long pieces, with dystopian themes, Godspeed You Black Emperor are the way to go!
truly a great song i feel, i love the sound of the distored organ. its so simple yet so effective, its just A minor, C, then two bars of F. The first intelude bit is G7th to F, then The other interlude bit is C to G7th. If that is of any interest to anybody then cool, i just love to jam to it with the guitar. anybody noticed how weird looking the people are, let lone what the video is even about lol.
What the hell is going on?? " I love you - take this gigantic space potato as a gift. My love is as boundless as this ridiculously huge galactic potato." Those are some hardcore sideburns right there.
It's really strange and beautiful how an artist can be an inspiresion for other artists!votes up!If somebody is intresting about Kubrick inspired songs he can listen to a song from a band named "Rodes" and the song title is "Kubrick".(Rodes-Kubrick)
Someone with sound-editing skills should mix this with Sia's "Breathe Me". It fits just perfectly. The only problem is that "Breathe Me" is faster paced than this. Thanks for the upload. Fantastic song!
Because it´s a tribute to the audio-visual symbolism in Kubrick´s works, especially "2001". The pace and dream-like feeling of the final scenes of 2001 are quite alike to this video, while it´s more of a travesty.
Should all music disappear but one I want this to stay - linger - very nostalgic. The video is incredible too, it must be a dream that has been caught alive
i tihnk i finally get the end, the weird potato thing rperesnets modern, different, weird things, but the amish man calmly eats it, thus he is stamping on any different things that could taint their way of life
i like this song 'cause it doesn't have just one feeling to it... and this video... DANG, it's weird! that last shot scared the living shite out of me! i find it funny, though, how it's their faces put together.
I think it's got something to do with the fact that human nature is to take and process whatever we can, whether it be resources or in this case food. the fact that it's the Omish (very basic living people) that process a potato (a very basic food) shows that we will do it by nature, rather than society today. Even if it is a precious thing, which is demonstrated by it being given as a gift. That's what I took from the video anyway. Who knows what it means...
...I am looking straight through you. Like I am looking deep, deep into the eyes of ...my potato(e)...brethren...(Gasp)...brethren. Potato(e)s...be strong.
I honestly don't understand what benefit anybody could possibly have from disliking this song. There is literally nothing to dislike. I am not saying everybody who watches this has to like it, but what could possibly cause you to dislike it? It seriously confuses me to see dislikes on such a calm and peaceful piece of music... Oh well, ignorance is bliss I suppose.
This video is full of figures of German Expressionism of 20s, in which there is frightening and bizarre characters, in the midst of a dream-like imagery of human individual. It's an escape from that cold and rationalist reality. It is the evocation of the Gothic return, opposition to modern social values, of mechanical work society. The supernatural images and the gloomy feeling that attack us, mostly at the end of the video, is a characteristic of Expressionism.
