Well i am sad. This is my first attempt. I measured 3 times and cut 17ft. It didn't seem like i had much left over for the end weave. Sure enough, i barely have enough to make it across let alone move onto the next step. I measured my strands length between my rings and i am at 13.5inches. I dont know what i did wrong.
Hummmm.... if you cut 17' you should have had 2' at each end to weave back in. I measured between my rings and had 13 1/4" so we are close. Are you pulling your yarn pretty taut as you're stringing the warp? Since you only had about one foot you may be able to make it halfway across. I think I'd run those yarns as far as I could and then run the ends back in. Then add on your two ply and see if you can tie them in. Maybe I should make a video on how to do that as someone just said they did a cinch and ran out of yarn at the ends!
As with all your weaving, the tension should be even. It's easier to work on if it's fairly tight but just remember to be consistent. The panels on the breast collar are like the cinch - tight is easier to weave on but don't strain yourself trying to over tighten it. I like to make the knots tight so they don't loosen up.
There’s a materials list at the end of the video. There’s several RU-vid videos on sizing a breast collar to fit your horse. I just do the average size.
At the end of the video is a materials list. It looks like a few words were left off. You need two pieces 10.5’ long for the chest pieces and 10’ for the piece that goes to the cinch. So you need 31’ of the 8-ply to do a breast collar. Plus enough 2-ply for whatever design you choose.
@@carolinespurgeon6016 but if the woven section is 14”x 11 strands, that alone is more than 10.5 ft, and you need length to weave in the ends. I’m not sure how that can be enough mohair? Do you stretch it that much? Or is the 10.5 only the measurement for the lower center arm and not the sides?
