Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #263
My friends Larry, Jessica, Myron and I set off to travel the length of the famous Mojave Road -- an epic off-road trail that basically runs for 133 miles from Needles to Barstow, right through the most desolate part of the Mojave Desert! This road follows an ancient Indian path that was later used by pioneer wagon trains -- so you never know WHAT you'll find on the trail. Along our journey we discovered some truly astonishing, creepy things -- from abandoned houses to weird shrines to conspiracy-tinged graffiti....and saw PLENTY of gorgeous, desolate desert landscapes.
In part one of four, we depart at Mile 0 from Fort Mohave, AZ...and wind our way into the California wilderness, stopping for the night at Fort Piute. We only covered 23 miles this first day...but we saw a lot of very strange things. This was an EPIC trip, and I can't wait to do it again!

We have a drinking game when you post a new video. Every time you pull your glasses down we do a shot. We're pretty much shit faced 60 seconds into the video. If you show your Chewbacca arm pit hair and someone pukes, they automatically win.

Love following your adventures. Some interesting information about the property you stopped at with the cabins, it was my Mom's property once upon a yesteryear. She bought the property in the early 80's and she and my stepdad started building the Main cabin and the outbuildings in the late 80's. My stepdad worked in Bullhead City at the time. The road to Bullhead crossed over the Davis Dam at the time and he would fill up a big water tank a few times a week and haul water to the cabin. In it's heyday it was a magnificent oasis in the middle of nowhere. They built a saloon (gone now) called the Black Cat Saloon. It was located across from the fallen down chapel that you peeked inside. They built the chapel for my brother who was married there. They had many fiends and of course family that would come out to the property for long weekends. There would be numerous motorhomes and trailers and a big fire pit. People would be having fun in the Saloon and telling tales around the fire until the late hours. The kitchen in the cabin was so dang cute. The checkerboard floor and many of her personal touches like the saguaro drawer pulls you pointed out. The outbuilding behind the cabin was a workshop and they made amazing wood crafts and bird houses they would sell at craft fairs. Sadly by the mid 90's they became ill and had to move away form their dream cabin and property. Even more sad is the amount of vandalism that began happening not long after they moved. Thanks for stopping by the property :)

Those first cans are "C" Rations. The small fat one was a meat dish, and the skinny one may have been peanut butter or cheese spread. I ate several hundred of those meals in the field in Vietnam,

The Mojave Road Guide - I actually bought one at the Goffs Schoolhouse from the author Dennis Casebier. Unfortunately he died last year at 87. No idea who owns or runs the exhibits there now but they used to be open on the weekends during the non-hot months. Definitely worth a visit.

I did my first trip in 07 over Christmas and it was a few of the coldest nights on record in the area. It went down to 11 degrees and we near froze to death. The last time was in 2016 in the early spring and even though it rained on us a bit we were quite comfy.

Wow, it's been 30 yrs since I traveled the Mojave Road. We took two days for our expedition. Fort Mojave to Barstow, it's a fun time. You know how to have fun, and Dennis Casebier "Friends of the Mojave" is the book to have. The pioneer diary stories in that book are incredible, reading them as you travel. The one about the Indians attacking the stage coach in Afton Canyon is dramatic, the doctor dying after 3 days at the Soda Lake army base with an arrow through his neck. Those stage coaches would travel more than 100 miles per day, stopping every 25mi at those forts where Army personnel keep the horses fed and watered, ready to be hitched to a stage coach when it comes through.

Wow I think I saw this video back when you put it out. I discovered your channel about eight years ago and we talked on email a couple times back then. But this is great I had no idea I would be watching this video later and didn't know about the Mojave Road because I just moved to Bullhead city from Huntington Beach and three months ago I was at that same flag. Randomly finding it with my buddies on dirt bikes. You really have been everywhere 😂

Larry has a beamer? haha, bummer, yeah hard to beat those toyters. My girlfriend works for Toyota. And Kyle Bush from Las Vegas drives one for Nascar! How but that ! I run my tires fairly soft all winter. Lowers my mileage but I gain 40% traction and braking in the snow and rain, plus the tires last longer and the ride as you said is softer. Unless of course if I'm fully loaded. Then it takes a bit more air. Creepy old waterbed frame by that cross tho, Nice to travel with people who like to take time to explore. Nice video.

Had to pause and say that I have traveled the Mojave Road many times with the first time after I bought Dennis' first edition of the book from the BLM (HARDCOVER!!!) in 1991. He's revised it a few times, but I found that if you don't read the book BEFORE traveling the road, he makes it almost impossible to follow from trying to read the book. While things are indexed for mileage, his style of writing continually mixes the history and the route instructions, making it almost impossible to easily or quickly access the route instructions. After my last trip in May 2020 I wanted to have a chat with Dennis. The joke was I wanted to torture him for making the book so cryptic, but in reality he and his group, the Friends of the Mojave Road are the sole reason that the Mojave Road exists as an off-road trail. These folks are the ones that discovered the trail, marked it out, and then worked with the US Dept. of Land Management and private land owners to get the trail established as a legal route. Dennis is a true off-roading hero.
