For $500 more, is this a step up from a Ride 1 Up Portola or the Velotric Fold 1? Those others do not have a torque sensor.

Thanks for this review! As soon as that UL certification is issued, I think I’ll go for this ebike instead of waiting for Ride1Up to get their Portola certified. That’s a nice bike too, but I prefer the control a torque sensor provides, and I’ll pay a little more for a bike equipped with one, even though Ride1Up uses the better power management style (power level vs speed target) with their cadence sensor bikes. 65Nm on a 20x3 tire delivers almost as much force to the ground as the 100Nm geared hub motor on my LMT’d’s 27.5x2.4 tires. The first release of Ride1Up’s LMT’d was reported to have a “surge-y” feel. Mine is a release 2 of the first gen, and I think they applied a time-averaging function to the response of the motor to the torque sensor. You can’t hammer a pedal and get an immediate response, and you’ll likely sprain your knee in the process. Instead, you need to slowly (over about 1 second) ramp up force on the pedals, and the motor responds smoothly in return. I think I’d prefer a more immediate response to pedal input. I’ll just have to spin the pedals more smoothly. Shame the freewheel (?) ranges only from 14-28. I’d be changing that to an 11-28 or 11-34 to get better climbing ability and a lower cadence at high speed. A top assisted speed of 25mph is fine for this bike, as this would be what I’d be packing on road trips, so I’d be riding only on trails or in inner cities, where the speed limit on local streets is often 25mph for all vehicular traffic. For riding near and around home, a full 28mph assisted speed is preferred as there isn’t much bike infrastructure here, and I often have to ride alongside or in very fast traffic.

The sinch 2 is already ul certified and has a free battery deal right now.

@@whydoesthismatter Those are good points, but I want something with skinnier tires. I like the balance between comfort and handling that 2.4-3in tires offer. 4in tires, though comfier, are more sluggish in rolling resistance and handling than I prefer and I don’t ride on loose sand or snow that fat tires are more suitable for.

Seems like the handlebar folds backwards? I could see that the stem was loose and rotated as you were folding it. Curious what Mokwheel said about that. Certainly we wouldn't want to lossen the stem everytime we fold it.

The specs on their site states 500watt motor not 750watts can you please verify? This is the reason I was gonna buy the Portola? Please confirm.

It's a 500W, but it feels super powerful!

OK, I thought you said it was a 750 W motor when I started listening to the video. I was a bit confused.

Is it same with aventon sinch 2 ?

They're very similar bikes, but the Slate seemed to have a bit more punch, especially with the throttle.
