Here we duplicate an action figure: Marvel’s great Silver Surfer. This is a demonstration of how you can duplicate your own figures, your own sculptures, and your own creations into real materials. We shall make him out of ComposiCast Clear Casting Plastic. The steps are as follows:
Get or make a mold box. Here we make an aluminum foil mold box so we can shape it around the figure and use less of the ComposiMold, but don’t worry, it’s re-usable, so you can always re-melt.
Hot glue the action figure to the bottom of the mold box so he does not float.
Spray with bubble buster to reduce bubble formation.
Melt the ComposiMold in the microwave and pour over your Master object. You are better off to let the ComposiMold cool a bit to make a better mold.
While still in liquid form, use a paper clip to pull away any bubbles still attached to the figure, especially under the arms or between the fingers.
Pull away the mold box.
Use a knife to cut between the legs so you can remove the original
Mix the ComposiCast Clear Casting Plastic carefully as to avoid putting bubbles into the mixture.
Pour the resin into mold. The resin will flow into the voids until it comes up the other foot. Be sure no bubbles are stuck in the resin. Use the paper clip or other object to ensure all the areas are full of resin.
Let solidify overnight.
Pull out your new Silver Surfer. Clean up the edges and you have your new super hero.
ComposiMold can be re-melted to make new shapes.
