Call me crazy, but I'm fascinated watching the soil turn over. The farmers in my area do very little with the soil. They might use disc harrow once in a while. Around here they alternate between wheat and soy beans and every once in a while they burn off the fields. Kinda boring I think.
Sandy loam soil. Most of our fields plow nice like that except the field I did today which is our lowest field. That plow does a really good job especially for having the front and back bottoms broken off before by a previous owner.
If it isn't cutting enough it will not fill in the furrow all the way from the previous pass and will not roll over evenly. Too wide and you'll end up with a strip of grass that doesn't get killed and might grow back through. As well as it might not roll over as good with that extra strip there.
Generally we like it to rain some after plowing to kind of pack the ground a little because our ground gets really fluffy. But it all depends on what the weather forecast is. If it's really dry you want to disc it right away to preserve moisture. Sometimes we plow and come right back with the disc to get something planted right away but it's always good to give the green material a little time to start to break down.
@@dominiccarpin5651 Yeah it all depends on your area. We would like to get away from moldboard plowing as much as we can but need to ramp up our cover crops in order to do so.
