In the molecular equation for a reaction, all of the reactants and products are represented as neutral molecules (even soluble ionic compounds and strong acids). In the complete ionic equation, soluble ionic compounds and strong acids are rewritten as dissociated ions. In the net ionic equation, any ions that do not participate in the reaction (called spectator ions) are excluded. As a result, the net ionic equation shows only the species that are actually involved in the chemical reaction. View more lessons or practice this subject at www.khanacademy.org/science/a...

Why did u not split the 2 at the end of the equation
@RedLtdGuitar
@RedLtdGuitar 5 лет назад
If you mean why he didn't split the AgCl, my understanding is that it forms into a precipitate (hence the (s) for solid) and therefore, you don't write it as individual ions. But, the sodium nitrate is still in an aqueous state and therefore, you write those two things as Na^+(aq) + No3^-(aq). Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

I'm stuck on how you know if the element has a positive or a negative
@puddleduck1405
@puddleduck1405 2 года назад
metals form positive ions, non metals form negative ions. If it's in group 1 of the periodic table it forms 1+ ions, if it's in group 2, it forms 2+ ions, group 3 is 3+, group 5 is 3-, group 6 is 2-, and group 7 is 1-. The transition metals are slightly different cos they can form multiple ions, but the question should tell u using Roman numerals, eg Fe(II) forms 2+, and Fe(III) forms 3+, hope this helped :)

In my experience, Kahn academy has only every made things long and complicated. After years of being forced to watch their videos, and deciding their methods were just not for me, a teacher assigned this video saying it made everything make sense. It made more sense before I was in chemistry at this point. No thanks Kahn academy.
