Thank you! I recently had the chance to go to a Moleskine store and actually noticed that the paper quality differs between plain, squared and ruled notebooks, with ruled ones being the worst. If you prefer plain or graph you might actually be better off in terms of quality. Still not amazing though.

Indigo.ca has the Pocket squared version on sale online for $4. Guess for that price can't go wrong. I ordered a couple.

@@pompom4458 Hi there! I personally have not used the expanded version yet, but I do have a daily planner which is essentially the same size and page count. If you write lots you won't have to get a new journal as quickly but one thing to keep in mind is that it is thicker. Heavier to carry around. Also there will be more of a gap between your hand and the writing surface since your hand has to lift higher to reach the page. If that doesn't bother you then go for it! :)

: ) Maybe ask her what she likes about the moleskine specifically? Sometimes the details of our affections help us understand each other better therefore get to know each other more. We all have different likes & dislikes for various reasons. Hope you find one for her : ) Journals are important to girls. We have so many thoughts and if we can get them out to process them in different ways it makes for better relationships all around. Much peace to you both. : )

moleskine used to be amazing quality but they've gone downhill, Piccadilly is more affordable and the same quality. Get Piccadilly instead.

Well, they're sketchbooks are notorious for being able to take a good beating with various mediums... people do oil and acrylic in them even, plus the pages open flat, no fold in the binding (great for double page spread drawings). But with plain paper types, I also found Piccadilly to be a great significantly cheaper alternative.

Sometimes it’s literally because it’s a dot grid notebook or grid paper...or even blank pages. Plus the pocket in the back is handy for stickers or whatever else. I looked everywhere at target for one that wasn’t ruled...none. 🙃that may be why?
