That's My Boy - Series 1 DVD is out now.
www.networkdvd....
Sitcom legend Mollie Sugden (Are You Being Served?) stars as Ida Willis, a fear-inspiring housekeeper who finds herself in a rather unusual situation when she goes to work for doctor Robert Price and his model wife, Angie: having moved into the couple's London flat, she gradually realises that Robert is, in fact, the son she gave up for adoption as a baby. Once she's got over the shock, Ida starts to make her maternal presence felt, and Robert's adoptive mother finds that she suddenly has some very unwelcome competition...
Written by Pam Valentine and Michael Ashton (You're Only Young Twice), That's My Boy was an enduring success for Yorkshire Television, running for five series and a Christmas special between 1981 and 1986. This release contains the complete first series.

Have since brought the complete DVD Set of the Sitcom That's My Boy, which is very funny and amusing, when the Late Chris Blake (Robert Price) in this was alive, I loved him.

I had a crush on this handsome actor Christopher Blake as a child, after first seeing him play Gilbert in the BBC adaptation of 'Anne of Avonlea'. Checked Wiki and found he died aged 55 of an aggressive form of non Hodgkins Lymphoma, very sad. His biggest TV successes were in 2 hit ITV sitcoms - this and the earlier 'Mixed Blessings' which (unbelievable today) was all about a white guy marrying a black woman. Christopher Blake was also a talented writer, penning episodes of the Channel 5 soap 'Family Affairs' and two episodes of 'A Touch of Frost' with a male writing partner. He was married twice and had three children. A keen Arsenal fan, he would drop references to the team into scripts he wrote. He was also a talented cricketer, playing for William Franklyn's charity showbiz team. He had a lovely energy, I think - sadly he never got another big leading role after his sitcom successes, but instead got supporting, character roles, including an episode of Dr Who that featured the Daleks. Very sad to read he died so young. His work lives on, on videotape, God bless him.

Theme tune just popped in to my head for no apparent reason. Must be an age thing as these tunes from my formative years keep popping up in my head.

I was always a huge fan of Mollie Sugden and I used to watch everything she was in, simply because she was so good.......However, this was absolute drivel from beginning to end. how it ever made 5 series is beyond me.

An example of just how poor ITV "comedy's" were in the 80's. That theme and title sequence were cheap & dreadful even back then, and It's such a shame to see how far Christopher Blake's career had slipped just 4 years after Love For Lydia.

You say that, but remember the same company (Yorkshire Television) gave us the brilliant The New Statesman, with Rik Mayall as Alan B'Stard MP.

Nothing dates faster than weak comedy. If you check Christopher Blake's Wiki entry it states his two biggest success were the two ITV sitcoms he made - this one and 'Mixed Blessings' about a white guy marrying a black woman (no doubt fuel for endless feeble race jokes). I remember the title 'Love for Lydia' but never saw it, I was a child in the seventies and fell in love with Christopher Blake when he played sweet, gentle Gilbert the heart throb in 'Anne of Avonlea'. Must see if I can find 'Love for Lydia' on RU-vid, I'm curious now! Sadly Christopher Blake died of an aggressive blood cancer in 2004 aged 55.
