The chim or hum of the tin on the dry ice is due to the moment of the molecules in the dry ice. The metal is a solid and will not become any more solid then the state it's in the atoms are interlocked perfectly. The dry ice however is fluctuating between a solid and a gas (all but missing the liquid stage) this results in the atoms moving so fast under a pressure (the tin) it begins to resonate resulting in the sound. Only a few years late on this but just for those who wanted to know. This will happen with any solid material put on dry ice with pressure. We do the same thing between petri dishes in the lab I work in when we get a shipment that contains dry ice.

After watching the first pour, I'm assuming the Leidenfrost effect makes the dry ice not really melt much. Although, I don't know if that's correct, because with Leidenfrost, it's usually a cool liquid introduced to a hot surface (water into a hot frypan, for example), whereas it's the opposite in this experiment. However, I believe the effect produced is likely the same; a layer of vapor between the hot liquid and the cold material that prevents direct contact. Does a reverse Leidenfrost effect have a proper name?

Ah, this is a fun one I just recently explored. The reason the molten Aluminum slides off of the surface of the ice is due to what is called the Leidenfrost Effect. Effectively, the dry ice is creating a buffer of gas between it's solid state and the liquid Aluminum, allowing the metal to float right off of it. And it also explains the volcano effect, where the gas is pushing its way through the molten metal. You can see the same effect if you heat up a pot and drop water droplets into it. The reason they don't instantly vaporize, is due to this same effect. You can actually see the same effect when he pours the liquid nitrogen onto the molten aluminum, how the liquid nitrogen floats around on the surface. Pretty neat stuff.

Actually when u think about it, the reaction from liquid nitrogen and molten aluminum is almost like when oil meets water. They always have to be separate, the only difference is the type of matter and how dry ice and molten aluminum has a more explosive and vigorous reaction than oil and water.

so the sound that is caused is the reaction to the metal vs the dry ice co 2 escaping not the crystals in the metal it the convection coercion of gasses passing over the warmer metal and escaping kinda like when you whistle or like a tea kettle there is a thin layer of co2 gas passing by the dry ice and metal . at its contact point

Excellent demo guys, not as spectacular as the molten salt in water. And demonstrates the exact opposite reaction, because as you say, they could not mix fast enough to get dramatic. And using carbon dioxide to make foamy aluminum is routine product, really kool stuff...

Explanation for tin chimes. The tin chimes is caused when Tin undergoes a structure change at ~13 degrees Celcius or ~56 Fahrenheit from beta-tin (cubic structure) to alpha-tin (face center cubic structure-like diamond). The tin also turns white to grey, and becomes more brittle but harder. Since the molecules settle into a lower energy state when cooling, the energy stored in the lattice is released as vibrations in the tin. This results in more heating as well as vibrations that cause the chiming sound, which is similar in frequency to hitting the tin ingot. Hence the high frequency metallic sound from the rapid cooling of the tin.

The chiming noise made by Tin is caused by the change in the crystal structure. When Tin is cooled down the crystal structure changes from white β-tin to grey α-tin at around 13 degrees Celsius. This phase change comes with a volume expansion which causes twin deformation. twin deformation happens at once because its induced by the temperature change thus creating the nice chiming noise observed.
