Another cracking video, Robin. Thanks. It is a credit to you and your style that you can keep me engaged for an hour using just one module. Easy listening in the best sense! On the down side, I have just had to add yet another thing to the "must have" list of things which I just can't afford. Oh well. As I said once before, I think I'm just going to have to make do with what I currently have - and, more importantly, enjoy what I currently have. Some of it may be getting a bit old and clunky, but I'm also getting a bit old and clunky, too!

Hey I remember you talking about starting a DIY series the other day. You should look into the 4MS Atoner it's one of many rad diy only modules. I've had my eye on it for a while, you can process it's internal oscillator *OR* an outside source into a bunch of clock pulses related to the original sound. I've been curious about it ever since I saw the "Polyrhythms are Polypitch" video.

Yeah that does look interesting - i'll add it to my list :)

Tasty would get this if i hadn't just splodged on a black wavetable vco I've yet to even scratch the surface of that module and I''d imagine the graphic is a bit deeper. but i do love Erica modules (ive got 8 of em in my rig atm)

Hey, is anyone here having trouble getting the Erica synths graphic VCO to play in tune? I’ve calibrated it and tried everything I could find online. I’ve tried turning the internal quantizer on and off, tried using an external quantizer, nothing works.

It reminds me of the Waldorf wave table synths.

All I can think is that screen needed to be an OLED so you don't need a filter over it. Check out a cuckoo octatrack tutorial to see how to shoot one of those things. Sounds lovely though, and that's pretty important too.

What sort of filter? But no it’s not great on video.
@dualtrx
@dualtrx 6 лет назад
No need for a filter. If the module does not have brightness level, then you should increase the light power overall to compensate the screen brightness, and then just to adjust that from your camera. Also an (CPL) Circular Polarizing Filter for the lens is great when shooting glass and screens, and outdoors usualy. :) cheers mate.

I think it's a brightness and contrast filter, and he masks it off so it just covers the screen portion of the shot. I think the specifics are going to be unique to the editting software you are using though.

Ah ok, but you can see it well enough though yes?
@robertsyrett1992

Honestly, not without going full screen. But when combined with the audio and your descriptions I can put together what's going on. edit: also, it's actually part of the review, since knowing it has an LED display that can't be seen readily from an angle is part of the evaluation process.

I looked into modular but it is too rich for my blood. If I had 20k to burn on music toys, sure it would be tons of fun but it is definitely not affordable. My synths cost less and do the same thing.

how does this stack up to the e352
@MoltenMusicTech
@MoltenMusicTech 6 лет назад
Difficult to say as I've never used an E352. Feature wise it does let you draw waveforms on the device itself which is something ther E352 can only do in a software app. Otherwise the Graphic VCO looks a lot simpler :)

Which firmware update?
@mrdavrosjipo

yes an update . if you go to mode then select live it says : patience my friend this feature will be coming in the next fw updates
@MoltenMusicTech
@MoltenMusicTech 6 лет назад
Oh that update - nope, never heard any mention of it. Erica have said that they are working on the web editor but they have all these new drum modules to get out first. They've never told me anything about the supposedly forthcoming "Live" feature.

I really like the way that Sub Osc sounds. I've gone back & rewatched nearly every one of your videos from your modular playlist as I think I might've missed a few. It was very interesting to see the decisions & struggle to manage all of these parts, such as having to bid adieu to the Mother-32 and 0-Coast. Without ever having had my hands on either one, I can't figure out why they can't be kept or integrated, but I'm still in the learning phase. It's still all a bit of a mystery. One of the biggest mysteries I've yet to figure out is how can the various modular systems be integrated. For instance, if you have a modular (or even semi-modular) and want to combine it with software modular systems, such as Reaktor, VCVRack, and Softube Modular...how can you get the software modular systems to squeak, squawk, bleep, & blurp in unison with its hardware cousins? I haven't been able to figure it out even with the software-only systems yet & googling hasn't given as much detail as I'd hoped it would. Btw, do you plan on reviewing the Noise Engineering Rack Extensions for Reason? I got all three & have been enjoying them. I've gone back into Reason & now all of that stuff in the back of the racks is starting to make a lot of sense & now I'm digging around in its cv & gates to try & passing cv/gate around to see what happens (apparently you can plug anything into anything). Before Bitwig & watching these modular videos, none of the systems: osc, adsr, lfo, cv, gate, vca, vcf, sequencing, & modulation didn't make a lot of sense to me!! It has been a very intriguing learning experience. So now I've been trying to figure out how to move cv/gate from Reason to VCV Rack (or one of the other modular systems mentioned). For the life of me, I can't understand why I avoided learning this when I first heard about it nearly 20 years ago...thinking Reason was too complicated...lol. Just needs a smidge of elbow grease.

I havent got rid of the M32 or 0Coast as yet. The question for me is simply that I don't have the money to have gear sitting around not being used. I would much rather have something that inspires and works with me. I'm finding that going outside the rack is a bit of a faff and so the 0-Coast and M32 are largely unused. Maybe i could trade them in for a couple of useful modules i would use all the time. You can run modular and a DAW - you just need the right connections for what you want to do. Check out my videos on DC and AC coupling - you need to get into that if you want to pass CV from computer to modular. If you want to connect via MIDI then you'll need a MIDI-to-CV converter and off you go. You don't see much on it because many users want to enjoy a DAWless experience. Maybe we work with computers all day and just want to play with music without having to touch a mouse or screen. There's also no real provision for interconnecting standalone software - it's actually easier to do it on different computers than it is on the same computer. That's why we have plug-ins! So that they all work in the same host - much neater. Yes i hope to do something on the Noise Engineering rack extensions - we often forget how awesome Reason is. It's amazing what we learn just by hanging around this stuff :)

That's a very good point about screen/mouse fatigue at the end of a long day at work, which I tend to forget about. I usually have to stay away from the computer for a few hours after work before I can go back to it and mess with my music software.

@@shitmandood Have a look at the Expert Sleepers modules. They may be the answer you seek for a hybrid software/hardware set up.

There have been a few videos on the ES integration I've seen since posting the above. I'm probably not going to bother with it anytime soon. Modular hardware is too expensive for me.
