I've always been of the opinion that a mother had the toughest job and should therefore be the most respected and admired of the 'workforce'.
Thank You 'Harriet Winslow' for making my point so dramatically and so professionally.
This segment from Family Matters is the best presentation on Motherhood in recent memory.

In my opinion Jo Marie Payton will always be the one and only Harriet Winslow no offense to Judyann Elder( replacement Harriet) but she kinda dampened Harriet's character and made her seem like a pushover that didn't stand up for herself. After Jo Marie's departure Family Matters was never the same.

Judyann came along midway through the 9th season & only had about 12 episodes to really get acquainted with the role. I think scripts had already been written for a 10th season, but CBS was not happy with the low ratings season 9 was getting (though, I think they were already far gone when ABC canceled the show after season 8) & they did not pick it up. Not only are there a lot of "what ifs" involved with regards to those unfilmed episodes, but who is to say maybe Judyann would have gotten the chance to make Harriette her own? I do agree, though, Judyann's approach was very different than Jo Marie's. Much like when Daphne Maxwell Reid took over Aunt Viv on Fresh Prince from Janet Hubert. The first Harriette/Viv was not afraid to be an equal partner in disciplining the kids, whereas the second Harriette/Viv expressed more disappointment in their actions rather than laying down the law.

I definitely agree!!!!! JoMaries Harriet took absolutely NO shit from anybody!!!!! Judyann's Harriet, while she DID put her foot down occasionally, didn't quite stand up for herself like JoMarie did.

Payton's Harriette would never interfered with Eddie's job as a cop because she knew how dangerous the job is. She used to train as a police officer in the same police academy that Carl trained at. Thus, Harriette would understand it better and let Eddie do his job as long as she knows he's safe. Elder's version interfered with his job and was called out by Carl for it.

I love this scene between Harriet and her employer. She's right. When you confidently know that you've got the skills that are appropriate for a job position speak up about them. And that's just what Harriet did. " My favorite part of the speech is when Harriet tells her employer that when she was working full time, she was also raising a family, managing a household budget etc.. and that is something where you can't call in sick, can't take a vacation etc.. Very very powerful. Every woman should learn to be as assertive as this.

@therealmistahjay
@therealmistahjay 6 лет назад
karateflix she wasn’t being fired, it was a job interview. Look, point being, being a wife and mother doesn’t qualify anyone for a management position and the fact that Harriet uses that to try and justify being given an opportunity is ridiculous. She’s comes off acting as if she’s the first wife/mother to ever apply for a job, lol. Again, I admire the passion but...cmon. Everything she listed as her “management” experience isn’t any different than what any other spouse/parent of a household does on the daily. She’s trying to make it sound like her domestic responsibilities make her special and above other applicants... It doesn’t.
@explosionsandstuff7787
@explosionsandstuff7787 5 лет назад
With all due respect, I don't see it that way. The guy doing the interview said that she had no qualifications for a management position, and she stated that being a parent was a management position. She didn't say it made her superior to the other applicants, just that it meant she had the experience he was looking for.
@duff007
@duff007 4 года назад
The bosses I have worked for would have said they admired her passion, but would have sternly reiterated their perceived lack of experience on her part and told her to look elsewhere. I feel for her and everyone else that has had to defend themselves against tone deaf hiring managers like this guy. I’ve been in Harriet’s shoes more times than I’d care to admit.
