Natasha did it taste fresh with all these cakes? I know you said trust the process but thats alot of ingredients to be wasted if it doesnt come out good. Think I wl stick to yr recipe ...the one from 4 yrs ago.
I never got to know my grandparents because they all passed away when I was young...it would’ve been lovely to learn grandma’s recipes and older ways! You are very lucky to have her 🤗 when mama makes it we don’t question...it just always comes out perfect! 😅😬
Wisdom are always with the elderly. I always like talking to them because they have soo much to share because of their experiences and this is total proof. Certainly going to try it. Keep up the good work MOM and hope you keep sharing your knowledge.
Natascha, mom's black fruit cake was absolutely unique and I would serve it to Royalty. This came just as I thought how my cake could have had more whole fruits in it and you showed layering. It is a beautiful cake! Thank you.
Hi good night Natasha. That fruit cake from your mother in law is about the best I have ever seen. The dates, molasses and the Jam really took that to the next level. I am definitely going to try this recipe.
Sitting in Jacksonville Florida, would give anything for my favorite Trini Black Cake. I remember my Dad and Stepmother soaking fruit with all the alcohol, adding more month after month until the big day.
This is actually how I learnt to make fruit cake. Blend half of the fruits and then add the rest whole. Everyone says the same thing. It tastes absolutely different. Love to see this different recipe being shared
I would love to try make the black cake this way for 2022. Thank you mom for your step by step guidance and all the additional notes. Thank you I will let you know how it turns out.
If I make any black cake it's gonna be this one I've never seen anything quiet like it. Her method worked well the cake looked moist and delightfully delish 😋😍😋
That's a real fruit cake in the true sense of the word. I've been baking for the past 52 years and I make a mean black cake. I've been a Vegan for almost 22 years but I still make it because my customers wouldn't let me stop. It's challenging to do because the smell of the butter and eggs upset my stomach. This is the first time I've seen a fruit cake made like this. Looks delish. Thanks to your Mom for the recipe. Merry Christmas to you and Mom.
Thank you both, for the time and effort you have allocated to this tantalising recipe. It is utterly intriguing. I will therefore certainly make it. With some slight adaptations. Namely, the non alcoholic option. And adjusting it to my vegan pallet.
I will give the recipe a try but I would have to blend all my fruits. I do not like tasting lumps of fruits in my cake (it’s a texture thing) they have to be blended really well. I definitely see why she didn’t need to add sugar because the fruits are already sweet. I will definitely do this the next time I make one. Last time I made one I added sugar and it was way too sweet. Thanks to your mom for the recipe and thank you for sharing with us.
Thanks so much for your mom in law black cake recipe...thank her to..I must say you are my favorite Carribean chef...much love happy Christmas to you and all
OMG! I LOVE a good fruit cake! I might do this before winter is over and just do a slice for me and send the rest to my family. Almost no one else loves fruit cake that I associate with, so I'm lucky I'll have family to send the rest to. I'll omit the prunes when I do it, although I love prunes.
Old school recipe looks moist and delicious 😋😋....similar to my mom's recipe minus the jam...thank you for sharing mom's . Felize Navidad to you and your family.🎅💃
Im going to try this next year... i want my fruits to good drunk and I see why she doesn't add sugar the fruits and dates provided the sweetness... Nice
Wow, what an amazing recipe. With that amount of fruits you do not need any sugar:). I will try using the grape juice and maybe a little bit less sugar. Thanks Natasha and your mom too. By the way, my mom does the same with sticking her spoon in the batter to see if it stands up, this way she know it is ready.
