Ok, parents opening credit cards and taking out loans under their kids name needs to be stopped. @@RobGoldyyeah it is fraud, but the banks seems very happy to gloss over the identity checks that should be able to easily identify such, a quickest background check can find the child's age at least. Some savy parents open a credit card for their child to benefit the kid and their credit score in the future. But it should be required that the child is made aware and consents to opening each and every account under their name. edit: Well, I've gotten my information wrong. Thanks for the correction! Savy parents should totally add their children as authorized users on their credit cards. Companies that hand out debts should have a system that checks the age of the new account holder and ensures the person opening the account is the same as the person listed as the account holder. They can check that an SSN is valid - how difficult is it to check that the SSN is attached to an adult and not a child?

Thank you Caleb and to all the guests in these videos. I used to be very good with money growing up, but started slipping when the pandemic hit which coincided with me receiving stipends from my scholarship. Slowly recovered, and got heavy into investing because of watching a lot of Graham Stephan which was a good start but tunnel-visioned too much on my future self that I completely ignored my current financial situation. Watching your videos has brought me back, and I couldn't be more grateful.

This is really scary to see, obviously she trusts him witch is great. But with 50% of marriages ending in divorce, he could be stealing from her and she’d never know. Everyone should know about their own money, the fact she doesn’t know where her money goes and has to give him money to put into her savings is a little scary. Especially since they won’t be married for another 14 months.

I'm upset on your behalf that David is making more money than you, has a fully funded emergency fund and isn't taking on a higher percentage of your joint expenses so you can afford therapy as often as you should be going. I would sell a kidney for my partner to get the mental health help they need. I agree with the comment from someone else that you should go to the courthouse and get married now. It will provide you with some protections that are important for you in this situation.

My dad opened a credit card in my name in my early teens too, except it set me up for so much financial success because by my mid 20’s my credit history was already great and 10 years old. Proud of the life challenges she has overcome! I couldn’t imagine the trauma caused by her parents. Glad that the benefits of therapy get discussed openly! However, I’d be nervous if only my partner had insight into finances. David should spend more time teaching her and showing her how to handle finances instead of just doing it all himself. It would be beneficial to them as a couple for both parties to know how much is in savings, how to invest, etc.
