Hi Miss Elizabeth!🙂 "Gremlins 2: The New Batch" (1990) is a fun watch that builds on the first film. The main charcters do return. There is no recasting. Great reactions to the original Gremlins, Elizabeth!!!🎄🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I seen this as a kid and it made a huge impression on me. I think that the sequel is just as good. The 80's had so many movies that shaped the way that I "see" movies for the rest of my life.
Some neat trivia about the movie: The guy that Billy shows his drawing of Mrs. Deagle as a dragon to is Chuck Jones, one of the famous animators/directors of Warner Brothers (aka the Looney Tunes). The two movies listed as being at the theater at the beginning of the movie are "A Boys Life" and "Watch the Skies." Those were the original working titles for E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. When Stripe is hiding among the stuffed animals in the department store, one of the toys in front of him is a toy of E.T. The guy driving by in the electric wheel chair the first time Randall calls from the convention is Steven Spielberg.
@@movieswithmom in case ya didn't know Ruby Deagle AKA Ms. Scrooge of this film is 1 of top 10 Horror Movie Bullies That Got their just desserts/what they deserved!
Thank you for the reaction and Merry Christmas to you and your family. It is such a blessing to see how happy your family is. There are so many of us that have no family (and no I'm not fishing for empathy) that watching this type of content is a form of comfort and encouragement. The interactions between you and your husband are an example of what a family can and should be. Best of health and growth in all you do!
What blew my mind is that each Mogwai had their own voice actor, including a few very notable names. Howie Mandel voiced Gizmo, while Frank Welker (present day Scooby Doo, although not at the time this movie was made) voiced Stripe in both mogwai and gremlin forms, and they just knocked it out of the park. I don't know which ones, but two of the other mogwai/gremlins were voiced by Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime) and Michael Winslow (Jones from Police Academy).
One of my favorite 80s movies and Christmas movies. Merry Christmas to you and yours 🎄 Movie Trivia: The original script was much darker and envisioned as a straight R rated horror film. It was both director Joe Dante and producer Steven Spielberg who toned it down and made the creatures more mischievous and prankster-like rather than straight violent. Also another change to the script was the stripe Gremlin was originally supposed to be Gizmo and Gizmo was also supposed to change into a mean Gremlin but again both Dante and Spielberg decided to keep Gizmo as a cute little hero instead. The speech that Kate gives about her hating Christmas in the bank after the 1st Gremlin attack was almost removed from the entire film (even Spielberg thought it should have been removed) but it was director Joe Dante who fought to keep it in the film (because it felt like a good emotional character arc for Kate's character at the time). He would later lampoon/parody a similar scene in the sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch. The town square is the exact same backlot used in the films Back To The Future, Blade Runner, The Monster Squad and many other movies and TV shows (such as Growing Pains, Just The Ten Of Us, Quantum Leap & Desperate Housewives, etc). Mrs. Deagle (Polly Holiday) was modeled after Mr. Potter (from It's A Wonderful Life - one of director's Joe Dante favorite films of all time). All her cats are named after denominations of money. The portrait of her husband is that of Lionel Barrymore (who played Mr. Potter in It's A Wonderful Life) and she gets her comeuppance (something which did not exactly happen to Mr. Potter - and was a source of criticism about It's A Wonderful Life for decades). Near the beginning of the film, there is a billboard that looks like Indiana Jones. The movie theater is playing two films called 'A Boys Life' (a reference to E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial - there is also an ET doll that the Stripe Gremlin hides behind in the department store) and 'Watch The Skies' (A reference to Close Encounters Of The Third Kind)...all those films were made by Steven Spielberg... Steven Spielberg makes a cameo in the film (as the guy wheeling past the phones) at the science convention. Also there are other sci-fi movie references (that both Dante & Spielberg were fans of) in that same scene. There is Robbie The Robot from Forbidden Planet (speaking on the phone) and an HG Wells Time Machine (that even vanishes) from the movie The Time Machine 1960. At Spielberg's request, he had an 80s Star Wars arcade game - that the Gremlins play in the bar - put into to the movie (because Spielberg was very good friends with George Lucas who made Star Wars. Both Spielberg and Lucas would often put references to each other's movies in subsequent films that they were making...for example there is a C-3PO & R2D2 hieroglyphics in Raiders Of The Lost Ark that Spielberg directed and 3 ETs in SW EP1: The Phantom Menace that Lucas directed...) Dick Miller (Mr. Futterman) would often appear in many Joe Dante's films (Piranha 1978, The Howling, Explorers, Small Soldiers, etc) and Jackie Joseph (who played his wife, Mrs. Futterman) also worked with & appeared with Dick Miller before in (Roger Corman's) Little Shop Of Horrors (1960). She would be more widely known for her role in the Police Academy films (2, 3 & 4). Both actors would reprise their roles in Gremlins 2: The New Batch. The voice of Gizmo was Howie Mandel (who also used the same exact voice as Bobby for the Saturday morning cartoon series Bobby's World) and the voice of Stripe Gremlin was Frank Welker (who did the voice of Megatron on The Transformers animated show, Dr. Claw on Inspector Gadget animated show & Slimer on The Real Ghostbusters animated series - to name a few). Parental criticisms of Gremlins and Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom (which also came out the same year & also directed by Steven Spielberg) that were both rated PG at the time, were instrumental in pushing for a PG-13 rating to be instituted for the rating board (up until 1984 there was no such rating as PG-13...just G, PG, R and X). There were many products tie-ins for Gremlins. In addition to the soundtrack on records & cassettes. There were Gremlins coloring books. There was a Gremlins board game. There were several Atari 2600, Commodore 64 and other computer games based on the film. There was a Gremlins breakfast cereal (where the marshmallows looked like little Gizmo's & Gremlins), there was a 6 booklet with 45 record set sold with Hardee's restaurants kids meals (it told the entire Gremlins story but from Gizmo's point of view - I still have all 6 books/records set to this day) and there was even a cute Gizmo stuffed plushy (which are still made today). I hope you review the zanny sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch. 😁✌️
Back in the day Gizmo was the IT toy - you can see why since he's so cute. There is a Gremlins 2 - they had a lot more Gremlin characters - mostly for toy sales. Gizmo leaned how to drive by watching TV. He watches more to learn a lot more in 2. That one isn't Christmas-y at all
Cates telling that Christmas story is SUPER dark next to 'Fast Times...". Trapped in the chimney bearing gifts. Cates in the other film was friend to Stacy who went too far with "Little Prick". A 'gift' emerge but was removed from it's...chimney. Stacy was rejected during Holidays. Told Cates Christmas sucks at the Mall they worked at.
Also in a classic Bug's Bunny cartoon from the 1940's. Bug's reads in a book the definition of a Gremlin and you see him. The guy in the movie Gremlins talks about them during WW2.
@@colinmackinnon696I like the Idea of another sequel… However the past decade and a half has made me very very weary of sequels, prequels, remakes and reimaginings….
"Now I have another reason to hate Christmas." "What are you talking about?" "The worst thing that ever happened to me was on Christmas. Oh, God. It was so horrible. [✂] And that's how I found out there was no Santa Claus." Sweet Christ! 😳 Fun Fact: This movie and Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom (1984) are credited with inspiring the MPAA to create the PG-13 rating. Many felt the movies were too violent for a PG rating, but not violent enough for an R. Practical Security Fact: Zach Galligan recounted in an interview that when the movie was made, there was no CGI, so all of the Gremlins were animatronics, each costing between $30-40,000. When everyone left the lot for the day, security would have everyone open the trunks of their cars to make sure they weren't stolen. Christmas Nightmare Fact: The "Santa Speech" proved to be controversial and studio executives insisted upon its removal because they felt it was too ambiguous as to whether it was supposed to be funny or sad. Director Joe Dante however stubbornly refused to take the scene out saying it represented this movie as a whole, which had a combination of horrific and comedic elements. Executive producer Steven Spielberg did not like the scene, but despite his creative control, he viewed this movie as Dante's project and allowed him to leave it in. Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) would later hilariously lampoon this ridiculous speech, which I highly recommend.
I forgot his mum went sword and board on a gremlin and tanked it to death! Multiple gremlin deaths in a row, and two of them environment kills. Tremendous!
22:51 I don't know if you watched Josie And The Pussycats back when you were a kid....but this actress was the voice of the dumb blonde member of the group (Melody).
I loved this movie, the bar scene was funny, the whole movie was good and funny.. great reaction.. merry Christmas Elizabeth and to your family.. keep them coming girl. PEACE
The person who wrote the orig script for the movie , made it very , very dark. It was never to be a christmas movie , it just took place in the season . Also the mothers head gets chopped off , all the gremlins show up at a McDonald's. And instead of eating the food , they eat up all the customers & workers. They cause chaos in town and kill most of the town. Spielberg bought the script and changed it to a more family friendly .
Gremlins 2 is different. It's insane, and less horror like. I assume tons of cocaine was involved in the making of it. If you go in knowing that, you should watch it. It's fun.
Gremlins 1 is more scary, while 2 goes for more funny. When I was a kid, a fast food place called Hardee's had storybook records of Gremlins. It was a 5 part set that told the story on the records like a radio drama, and would chime when it was time to turn the page in the illustrated story book that went with it. Yeah,Gremlins is kind of interesting how it was really popular when it came out but has kind of fallen off the radar so not many people know of it now.
That was a great movie reaction and it does bring a lot of nostalgia, especially when you were a kid when it first came out and I great channel look for more of your reactions. He’s a little movie trivia gremlins the first Ghostbusters and Beverly Hills cop came out in 1984 will be 40 years old this year. Ghostbusters and gremlins will be 40 next month in July in Beverly Hills cop the first 39:53 one will be 40 in December.
As someone who has watched his wife give birth multiple times I find it just a bit strange to hear a mother worried about how painful it looks for a Mogwai to reproduce.
While technically true, snow is a solid, not a liquid, nor a gas like steam. So one can at least presume the rule about water means the liquid form of water.😊
I just linked this to this to 'Fast Times at Ridgemont' last night. Phoebe Cates (Pool Exit?), defaces the car of a "no-brained LITTLE PRICK". He drives...a Gremlin. The Gremlins here, LOVE swimming POOL
@@movieswithmom the trick of what I've learned and honed, with analysis of movies for their dangerous and unknown abstract details, I must also be mindful that I've had YEARS to view a film 10 times with my imagination reigning. Now my perception is on Alert and I do SEE more of what was always there. In EVERY SINGLE MOVIE. I will snag two you've seen and comment what I now. Never been to your channel. Ok??
Ellen Ripley Who? Billy’s Mum is one of Film’s Underrated Badass Lasses, when Gremlins invade her kitchen, she grabs the Knives and goes Highlander on em.
No one on RU-vid can ever go at all without saying something is “underrated,” can they??? STOP SAYING UNDERRATED! That word is completely dead because everybody on RU-vid overuses it so much
Fun Fact: "Mogwai" translates to "Devil" if you google it you'll see Another fun fact: Phoebe Cates was such a cutie 🥰 it's like she's a sight for sore eyes. That iconic scene in "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" ehere shes comes out of the pool in her little red bikini is just the hottest ever
11:41 You're a mother. doesn't it usually cause pain to reproduce? Show your kids that moms can be awesome at fighting monsters! There is a sequel which is even more insane. This film, along with Indiana Jones, inspired the PG-13 rating.
Liz, i was looking at what movies came out when and 1984 seemed to have a buttload of movies, so if you missed it, i woudn't hold it against you, and video stores didn't start coming out until the late 1980s so if you didn't have Hbo, you probably wouldn't have seen it.
It does have Billy hes one of the best in there tho i love evey character for its my favorite movie. Gizmo best character i ever saw in any movie or cartoon i ever saw. So favorites on both accounts but Billy though many dont like him hes really good guy, just like others made mistakes. But he takes care of his family, and very calm and tries to do good. His mom is the better fighter, tho to be honest though she is i doubt in that department store i think would be same as the house. Stripe is a whole never level of smart than the ones in house. ANd Billy did blow up the rest. But Billy is in 2nd one but both are my favorite movies. DOnt know why every one rips on Billy. He my 2nd fav in there then the Mom then Futterman / Pete. But everyone in it even the really side characters make it up you do need to watch also the extended. You learn alot that isnt in the movie. Even about Mrs Deagle and what she was really doing i didnt notice it until i saw so many years later deleted scenes she was really really bad person. Ruining many peoples homes for greed. Even Futtermans and used the bank to plan it all . Plus the bank owner dies, they cut that out, and Gerald locked himself in a vault. Also know Futterman lost his job in the Noddle Factory. Due to Mrs Deagle.
