No matter where you are in the world, the one food brand that everybody knows and loves is McDonald's. Those damn addictive fries of theirs that made them famous. After the fall of the USSR, and the West flooded into every aspect of their society, I feel good as an American that at least the Russian people were finally able to actually TASTE McDonald's fast foods. It's part of our legacy to the Russians. Whatever their copycat version they created ain't the same and never will be.

His great grandfather was born there, and left the country permanently in 1904. I would hardly say that makes his family "from Ukraine", nor is this fact even vaguely pertinent to this proxy war.

@@annmariedeignan2596 Sounds like you have no sense of family or understanding of the USA. Thinking outside the box or an education often helps. Traveling outside one's small village helps one understand world events too. Many USA citizens are children of immigrants. Their parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents came here from somewhere else. Many Americans have dual citizenship obtained thru those family members. Americans are applying for dual citizenship in records numbers in recent years. I am currently applying for German citizenship thru descent from my great-grandparents on both sides. My grandfather fought in the USA Army in WW2 against his German cousins in Germany and the cousins also fought in Ukraine. Family connections are important to most people here. Not to Russians I presume. We sent life-saving medicines to family in Germany after WW2. The governor of my state is proud that his family is from Kyiv, Ukraine. One of my US Senators loves his mom who emigrated here from Poland after WW2. She remembers Soviet occupation. I have another friend who is Volga German who speaks Russian, German, and English. He doesn't like Russians. They brutalized his family. Family encompasses a broad definition in the USA.

McDonalds did not run from any "dictatorship". They left Russia because of supply line issues, and operational issues resulting from the disconnect from SWIFT. There was nothing even vaguely political about their leaving Russia, or remaining in Ukraine. It is all about profit, or lack of profit. Incidentally, every former McDonalds restaurant was purchased by a Russian businessman, and simply rebranded. They serve more or less the exact same menu. The only difference is that now all of the profits remain in Russia
