Well, just a few days after sailing our new-to-us Tartan 37 110 n.m. to her new home, we get her hauled out to see what this "crack" in the keel is all about... We spend some time on the hard to get some much needed boat work done and start getting this OLD SAILBOAT back into ship shape. One of the best things about owning an old boat is that you can build it back up the way you want!
Don't forget to like and subscribe to follow us on our sailing journey! Drop us a comment if you'd like, we love hearing from you guys!
Thanks for watching!

I love your mexican food (tostadas con guacamole) I am an old, very old, Mexican living in Venezuela and I used to manufacture small motor boats between 17' and 24' many years ago. Now I only follow many RU-vidrs who sail around the world. I congratulate you for being part of that group!

T 37 cb. One of my favorite boats. This S and S design really sails well on all point. Good balance and very nice looking. I had on for a few years. Loved it.

We have a soft spot for S&S designs. They sure knew how to make a boat look good and sail well at the same time!

On the pack gland repair. Double check what is holding the rudder. I said you did not have to remove the rudder to replace the packing in the gland. I think I supported the rudder while working on the packing.

Fellow T37 owner here 144. I just want to encourage you to please wear protective gear around bottom paint. It really is nasty stuff and your health is your most valuable asset.

Go hard guys. Reach out to that unknown. Not much of a sailor myself but I've also just bought my first yacht 3 weeks ago. Life is here and it's up to us to hit the boundaries. Mic Barrett

I like the bamboo lattice on the cabinet doors it keeps fresh air in and reduces mold.

On the keel crack problem, it’s not a critical issue. Three years ago I met a guy who was involved in building the plug for the keel mold. He said that, as it was a one piece mold, not a split one, it was not possible to lay up the glass in the thin area ,so ,they shortened the keel plug and added a fairing piece later. On mine I have “no block” painted on the back 18” to prevent damage in the yard.I will be following with interest. Good luck from #6!

Interesting! Very cool info to know! In a way, we were lucky to have this "crack" because it deterred a potential buyer before us! I'm thinking a yard accidentally caused the damage to ours in the first place. Thanks for the insight! Keep it coming!

Another interesting video , I’m sure your channel will continue to grow if you carry on with your style of production and content . Compared to 10 even five years ago there are a lot of channels in this space but you two offer a freshness and enthusiasm combined with existing knowledge that will serve you well. I’m well retired now but you two remind me a lot of when I was first married tackling my first house 😀. Cheers from NZ

If your T37 is centerboard like my T34C, the aft end of the keel is the trunk for the CB. It is only fiberglass and no lead. I ran aground last winter in Guadeloupe and to free the boat out, I had to turn it around 180 degrees. By doing so it broke the aft end of the keel . I hauled out the boat and redid the whole aft end of the keel with new FG. This is just to tell you that this part is somewhat fragile and that you should watch out. Also, you should not put too much weight on the aft end of the keel when hauled out, put some wooden blocks forward where the lead is. Cheers, Richard

@thegreatescape2022 Год назад
We were so relieved when we discovered that it's just fiberglass on the aft end! Next time we haul out we're definitely going to make sure the blocks are more forward on the lead portion, don't want to put anymore stress on that section than we have to! The T34C is a beautiful boat by the way!

Any plans to replace the skeg?
@thegreatescape2022
@thegreatescape2022 Год назад
Good eye! We would like to eventually, but since the skeg on this boat is just a sacrificial shell tabbed to the hull, we're not too worried about it right now. I'm sure it affects water flow over the rudder but we haven't noticed anything drastic yet with it missing. It offers a little protection to the rudder but since it's a thin hollow shell, I'm not sure it would protect much like a true skeg would
