The most Important fact is in the last couple of seconds: both lens systems apperently can be used interchangeably with cases from either Rhinoshield or Moment! That’s huge as Rhinoshield offers better protection and much more choice
I would like to mention, that while it's not recommended by either manufacturer and the fit isn't ~perfect~, other Moment lenses will fit on the RhinoShield Adapter. If you check r/moment you'll find a lot of people who own Moment lenses font have perfect fits with Moment cases actually, often having to shave excess plastic off to get a perfect alignment with the anamorphic lens. The reviewer mentions the compatibly at the end, but I feel like if you're accepting this in your consideration, then saying that moment has an environment that RhinoShield doesn't have access to doesn't make a ton of sense, unless I'm misunderstanding. It's worth mentioning that the Moondogs makes a version of their anamorphic lens will fit an adaptor for RhinoShield cases. Also, the ND and CPL filter mount that moment produces is essentially just a cut rubber gasket-- it doesn't interface with the lens the way that other filters, like those made for the Sandmarc lenses, do. I haven't used these gaskets so I won't remark on their fit. But I will say that it is something that can be made- with some two part epoxy, a step-up ring, and a rubber gasket.
I greatly appreciate the depth you went into with this. Bought a Moment 18mm for myself and my coworker gave me his rhinoshield and I personally couldn’t tell enough difference and was feeling a little butthurt
Rhinoshield SolidSuit cases are so much better and cost less, more importantly, the lens mount is replaceable if worn while with Moment cases, you'll have to buy a new case if the mount is worn. I so wanted to keep the Rhinoshield HD Wide lens coz it's at half the cost and half the weight, but I just can't find a ND filter mount for it. Sold it and got the Moment 18mm v2, but using Moondog filter mount made for this Moment lens (52mm filter thread so less weight).
What a great comparison video. Rhino make such amazing cases. My girlfriend has a rhino shield case that take add the camera lens adapter. For me though, moment, their RU-vid channel, ecosystem, and high quality builds are what’s on my phone and what I use when I do video. I really need/want to get their brand new 58 mm lens. I think it will be great for the interviews I’m going to be doing this year on my channel.
Thanks! The Moment 58mm is really good. We did some comparisons with it too if you haven’t seen it... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3D8ysxjz2Vs.html
Chromatic abberation and softness on the edges is also on the ultrawide native lend on the iphone 11 pro max or it's better to use thid 18mm moment lens ?
The difference with the RhinoShield it’s not terrible compared the price difference. I think is worth the price of RhinoShield the only problem is impossible to use a filter with RS
I think it would be better if you included a panning video comparison on both lenses. In that way, distortion can be compared better than just still ones which are just similar to photo comparisons. Despite the chromatic aberration, I'd still pick the moment lens anyway though. I believe chromatic aberration would be much easier to fix in post than the distortion. It's really a matter of convenience. Depends on the look you are going for as well. You get what you pay for.
I bought a bunch of Moment stuff for more than 400$ (macro, wide & tele plus accessories). I was pretty excited to make photos and videos. But I was totally disappointed by softness and chromatic aberrations. It looks ok on mobiles but it looks awful on larger screens. Be aware of that. I sold everything and moved to another approach. Nice video anyway.
It depends on the lens for sure. The anamorphic looks quite good and so does the 58mm tele. In actuality though we don’t use third-party lenses that often. But it is nice to have a wider shot and then some stylized stuff too. Thanks for watching!
I’ve been waiting for this. I’d come back to read comments. I’m leaning towards the Moment lens but the price for all lenses I want (superfish, reel and anamorphic) and the case is a lot. Cheaper and equally good lens suggestions would be welcomed.😭🙏🏾
Rhino wins for me. Not only the setup is 5X cheaper than Moment in my country, I can fix distortion with one-click but I can't live with the awful lack of sharpness on Moment. Plus, don't have to buy and attach awful Moment Weights to make it work with gimbal. There is no question of ecosystem here. Rhino adapter attaches Moment lenses too. So don't buy expensive 18mm Moment just to buy in to the ecosystem. You'd have the same ecosystem with Rhino. Also, Rhino adapter works with almost every case without a hitch. And Rhino cases actually protect. Moment cases crack if you take them off wrong. Let alone protection.
So why not buy the rhino shield case with the 2in1 lens and then if you want to go further, buy some moment lenses and attach them in rhino case? Plus I think it protects the phone more than moment case!
Sure, you could do that. In our testing the RS lenses actually fit better on the Moment cases though. The Moment fit ok in the RS case, but just not quite as snug - but they do work.
I watched a ton of videos on the Sirui 60mm Telephoto vs the Moment 58mm Telephoto and the Sirui was sharper and had a more pleasant compression. The Sirui had very little to no softness on the edges. I bought the Sirui 60mm to use with my Moment case and 18mm wide. Not a wide lens comparison, but a firsthand use of the the Sirui that had good luck. Hope that info helps.
Yes that’s true to a degree and depending on the phone. But a third-party telephoto, for example, is better than the built-in tele as it can be attached to the built-in wide lens on the phone that has a faster aperture. So you get a f/1.8 versus an f/2.8 (or whatever the case may be). Currently with iPhones you can’t shoot wide without a third-party lens. Will definitely be interesting to see what the next generation of phones do though. Heard the iPhone will likely have 3 cameras and others already have more.
FYI I’ve had rhinoshield for a long time now and the case is getting loose now so the side buttons like volume rocker gets hard to press and catch my self doing a lot of screen shots on accident
The y still last long and the protection of the Rhinoshield is all around as the Moment leaves a spot that can break the glass. With no Apple care i prefer the Rhinoshield. Fell tons of times violently and with the addenda FULL glass, nothing happened, the iPhone is l’île New under it.
I think people would get this, play with it for a few weeks, then get an ILC camera to get the results they had in mind. Save your money and do it right the first time.
