Exactly. When I was a kid, a relative gave me a check for $20, which seemed like quite a bit to little me. My parents made me deposit it into my college fund to "teach me about saving money." I did not, in fact, learn about saving - I learned that my parents would steal my money if I told them about it and hid all future money from them.

Also, if you're already aware of ways you don't fit into social norms, you tend to be more aware of other ways you don't fit in. Autistic people typically have less of an affinity for assigned gender, since it's a predesignated societal role.

I've been looking at Scandinavian church books from the last 500ish years, and the average age of first-time marriage for women tended to be somewhere in the 22-26 range, varying between years. Even when the average age was very low (22), it was still fairly rare for girls under 18 to marry. Also, their husbands tended to be around 1-3 years older, so not super big age gaps. Also also, the first baby tended to come around 5-6 months after the wedding. It didn't really matter if it was conceived within wedlock so long as it was born within it. There were some social punishments if the bride was already showing during the wedding ceremony (not allowed to wear a veil/crown, or having to wear a veil, or having to donate extra to the church or whatever) but it wasn't a social death sentence.

yea that was my experience with the queer community as a whole! i was raised very religious so i was bigoted af, but then i discovered the term “AroAce” and thought “i’m definitely aroace but im not gay” so i kept my distance from queer people but after trying to be open about my feelings with cishet people around me AND some queer people online i realized that one of them kept pushing me to be like them while the other supported me for who i am!

I've had a hysterectomy and am on testosterone. I'm pretty sure that's the only way to "fully stop" periods. I'd assume the hysterectomy is enough but then again trans women who don't have a uterus also can have those symptoms from just taking estrogen so you'd have to be menopausal or simulate it hormonally I guess.

Selenium can also be found in such high concentrations in certain seeds and nuts that it's actually quite easy to overdose on it just by snacking. Brazil nuts are especially high in the stuff and it's recommended not to eat more than ONE nut per day!

I find it really strange that there is no information about this on the packaging. Even packs of licorice say that it can increase blood pressure, while every pack of algae seems to be warned about iodine far too much. Then people wonder why people here are rather undersupplied with iodine, which in turn is salt with added iodine is recommended. No, thanks, I'd rather eat something with algae now and then than eat iodized salt, it just tastes better to me. I have the feeling that for the people who make the food laws in Germany, East Asians being alive is a miracle for them, given the amount of iodine that is consumed there. I think the preparation recommendations I see on packages of algae are simply absurd. I have a pack of kombu Yamadashi that comes with instructions for dashi, which are also relatively normal. For 3 cups, 5x7cm of gently wiped kombu is soaking for 6-8 hours and then heated, and the kombu removed again shortly before cooking. And the German text also says: Attention: rich in iodine, sea algae naturally contain a lot of iodine. Consuming more than 4.9g (0.9 tsp) of the broth per day is not recommended and can lead to hyperthyroidism and other health problems. Follow the preparation instructions. Basically it says that the recipe on the package should be made and then not use most of it, but not even a teaspoon per person. It probably doesn't season a meal at all, with 0.9 tsp per person if it's used for seasoning.

Q: have you been given a specific reason to come of the pill to have a period? I've been on the combination pill (microgynon ) for nearly 20 years and for at least 15 of them I've been on them continuously (without a break) during that time I had to come off for a week before 1 surgery near the beginning but not for later surgeries - advice change I suppose). I've never had breakthrough bleeding or anything. I've had old school doctors tell me that I should have a break every 3 months 🤪 but I found a few scientific journals stating that continuously taking birth control doesn't affect fertility/health etc and have referred to them and suggested they review them as part of their continuing medical education.... Grr. Before taking the pill again I was on the implant which also stopped my period for 3 years each and I switched early enough for it not to cause a bleed when switching to a new implant so I had 6 years period free from that. Tldr unless there is a specific to YOU reason, you don't have to stop taking the pill.

@@nixi-bixi I'm not taking birth control, mine works through preventing the making the uterine lining and affects certain vitamins (like calcium and vitamin D) and hormone processes so need a break every once in a while

My reply was due to so many afab peeps being told that periods are "natural" and to stop them is bad/ causes issues, when for the majority that's not the case (there's always instances of a substance being not great for an individual but this birth control myth is an often peddled one). I personally chose to stop my period because I have a number of health issues that affect my day to day life, so being able to stop something that caused me problems, pain, cramps as well as just the usual general day to day considerations makes sense for me. I already take meds daily so taking another pill isn't an issue for me, though I did appreciate the implant when I was younger and didn't take daily medication. I'm in the UK so prescriptions for contraception are free, so I also have the added bonus of not having to pay for tampons and pads etc are a genuine win too. Going period free was my choice but if anyone "suggested" it, especially for their personal benefit like the cretin in the post, period or no period, he'd be on the no way in hell list quicker than I can bink. That's a massive red flag!
