I have recently posted a short video asking you to find a mistake in the French sentence "J'ai appellé mon amie ce matin - I called my friend this morning". So many of you thought the mistake was mon amie and should be either ma amie or mon ami. (The error was the spelling of appelé, which only takes one L). In this French lesson, we are going to discuss the rule around MON MA MES and when to use MON with a feminine noun.

I am glad you posted the original question because, when I got it wrong I went back and reviewed the chapter on passé composé in the Grammar Workbook. I found that, not only did I not understand "ma - mon - mes", my understanding of passé composé was also weak. More questions please! Sometimes it is better to get them wrong!

Hi Dylane, I'm still working on those irregular present tense verbs. You mentioned once you would make a list of nouns where the plural and singular are different in French and English, if we asked. I'd appreciate seeing that. I love your lessons!

8 out of 10. I got the concept correct, but guessed wrong on whether a noun was masculine or feminine. I really like hearing the answers immediately - very helpful!

Thank goodness for nouns starting with a vowel as apparently I have a hard time telling the difference between girls and boys (it's a memory thing).

Merci madam! I have a question. It says - Elle porte un pantalon noir. So will i write; Elle porte un pantalon *noire*? As there is "elle" that is feminin, Or no matter what the pronoun is, we have to see the noun i.e pantalon and apply e according to it's gender. Please help me with this. Not able to understand!

Good question 🙂 Noir doesn't agree with the subject (elle) but with the noun. The noun (pantalon) is masculine singular so noir stays masculine singular = Elle a un pantalon noir :)
