I’m 31, but my best friend was a bit older than me. This was her favorite song, many nights we spent drinking together pretending time didn’t exist. Id give anything for one more night in summer 2009.
@@carlcr4425 It's about two retail workers regretting their decisions and wishing to be rockstar on MTV, and the lead comments on the singers at parts of the song, while they complain about their jobs. It was actually based on a conversation one of the band members heard over 2 people.
the lyrics have the word "f ggot" in them. I had written this previously, and YT warned me that my comment was bullying and harassment, and deleted it. I guess it's all about that letter "a". So I can grow up with a mom who got in a lesbian relationship, and I got in fights, over and over, at times against multiple farm-boys, one time I was knocked unconscious and lost my front teeth... I loved her regardless of who she wanted to be in a relationship with... I stood up for a person's right to be in a homosexual relationship if they want to, and I did so at a time when it was NOT popular to do so... I, a straight person, stood up against an entire town of prejudicial people that felt the need to hurt people that were not straight, and I did so at the cost of actual physical harm, and at the cost being accepted by my peers, at a time when that acceptance is important... I can live my life as described, and someone who works at RU-vid can JUDGE ME as someone that bullies and harrasses, THAT is what they call standing up for someone? You virtue-signalers are all poseurs. The lyrics are making fun of a meat-headed worker in a department store, who uses those words when speaking, ESPECIALLY when it hurts someone to hear it. RU-vid sucks
And how much do you think dire straits get for all this?? Remember it was Prince George Michael Elton John who fought record labels no one has challenged MTV. That I know of. How many of us actually watch MTV or VH1. There is no music artists talent it's garbage
Wow, today I'm a week away from 38 years old and I finally learnt that this song is actually a conversation of an appliance store worker. The lyrics always confused me but I never bothered looking them up!
still here 1/2023...an I remember as clear as day when I heard this, the opening guitar solo blew my head off ...radio would have to edit the lyrics for today🤬 but I will always Love this song, the 80s had The Best❤🔥🔥
Todays PC culture sucks! I grew up, as I’m sure you did too, learning words have no power! My close friend in the military is gay and we def used the word fag but it wasn’t from a place of hate he never cared. We still talk and I asked him about it like did that bother you back then he was like hell no I ain’t some sissy. Hahaha
Could you please extend further on that censorship issue? I'm intrigued since I am South American, I'm vaguely aware of these matters in your countries.
Check out the live song from Knebworth!! Unfortunately he sings the edited version but the music is incredible!! Mark Knoflel & Eric Clapton & a thrilled audience!!
And his chicks for free “cool guitar solo )sometimes you have to say wtf (from risky business ) lol this song remind me of that movie they should I used it together lol
It’s so funny. The irony here. That they make a song about a conversation about making easy money from appliance workers and this is one of their biggest songs. 😂😂. I love it
I recently heard that the writer of this song was in an appliance store when he overheard a delivery guy talking as he was looking at MTV on all the TVs lined up about how these guys (musicians) get money for nothing and that he (writer) actually got a pen and paper and leaned on microwaves as he wrote this-kool story.
