I had arrived maybe 3 months before in the US. Didn't know much English. My father and I were coming from Philadelphia at night, going back to our home in D.C. we had just entered Delaware when this song came on the radio. The sound, the rhythm, and that guitar solo, man I got hooked. That was 42 years ago. I can remember everything from that moment as if it happened just last night. The power of music.
Great memory to have. There is a lot of feeling and emotion in this memory... new arrival to US, battling a language barrier, being with father, long drive down unfamiliar highways and roadways... it's 42 + 1 year later. I first heard this song when a black guy named Otis Roberts III sat down in Physicls class at Waltrip High School in Houston Texas, looked around.and then, while tapping on the table, sang "You get a shiver in the dark, its a rainging in the park, but meantime..." My favorite of all time. It was Summer 1978, we were on holiday in Scotland. At that time the music scene was punkrock... Then we passed a cafe or pub and heard this new sound.
