Ashley's video set off a 3 hour researching spree, watching other videos and reading about YNAB. I got excited, downloaded the app, just to find out that TD Bank is not integrated and that is a must for me. Bummed and back to the drawing board. If you have any recommendations for other apps that DO support TD or if you know when that bank will become available, that would be great!!!
Long video today! It actually didn't feel half this long when I was recording. All questions listed with timestamps in the description box. Let me know if you have any follow-up questions. xx
My goal is to budget for real. I’ll explain. After watching some of you previous videos, I got excited to budget. I set up my own paper and pen spreadsheet, everything divided by 12 for yearly expenses, etc. Well, surprise! We paid off our house! Now, because my budget was self invented, I’d like to try it for real, lol. Thank you, by the way, for getting me excited about finance. And, we’re not rich. My husband is a retired fire marshal. It’s amazing to see good results.
I love all of your videos but really appreciate this financial series, especially that you’re willing to admit you’re a spender. I’m also a spender and desperately want to get ahold of my finances and feel so shamed by other videos telling me that I need to just get a clue and save. Thanks for making this series, I can’t wait to see more of your videos!
My financial goal is to save enough money to replace our fence :) Thank you so much for your videos on finance. They have really inspired me to get on track!
I had no idea you had your own channel before you joined YNAB - it's so cool to see your own videos pre-YNAB! Your YNAB videos have such a chill vibe - I love them!
Heyyy! First of all, the hat! It looks so good on you! I'm not even a hat person, but I've been loving wearing it on walks. This video was right around the time I started the interview process at YNAB. 😭 Still grateful every day!
Our number one goal is to save all of my retirement income. Like, not touch it until we have a big "want" - like an overseas trip or a new horse trailer. Love your channel so much and you've given me a renewed wish to try and figure out YNAB. It seems so complicated!
I started YNAB because of your first finance video many months ago and it's made me feel so much more confident about saving and spending! Thank you for your helpful and informative finance videos!! xx
I really enjoyed this video, it's nice to hear some real experiences with YNAB, it's been on my "I need to get into this" list for ages. My goal is to buy a car, as I have just upgraded to a bigger apartment and a car is the next "big thing" that would make my life way more convenient. 13 years of only public transport is enough.
This makes me want to start budgeting again! I’ve always thought YNAB would be a great way to do it, but just never bit the bullet! One financial goal my husband and I have is saving for a down payment for a future house and paying off student loans!
I was going to skip this video but I’m so glad I watched it! I feel shame about the state of my finances and seeing where you are after a year - joy, confidence, engagement and taking control of an area where you had been ashamed- has been quite the motivator. I’ve been very slowly paying off credit card debt so my goal is to speed that up and become debt-free in two years. Thanks for your enthusiasm and honesty!
My husband heard this playing and it started a conversation so thank you. We bought our house last year and so now we want to sit down and prioritize our next big goals.
Afford anything, journey to launch, and bigger pockets money are great podcasts. I love jl Collin’s book the simple path to wealth. I’ll be student loan debt free by the end of the year.
I loved this video. I am just starting my journey of budgeting and this was super helpful. My biggest financial goal right now is saving and paying down debt. I just had some big car repairs that I wasn’t prepared for. It left me feeling very stressed and ready to make a change. I want to take the YNAB plunge!
Such a great video Ashley! My financial goal is to actually work towards a budget. So much of this video resonated with me in regards to the shame, not wanting to talk about money, and spending needlessly. I am 31, with a decent job but am embarrassed that I don't have anything to (finally speaking) show for my years of work. I'm so proud of your efforts and how you're working toward your goals. Keep doing a great job!!
I loved this video and hope you’ll keep the financial videos coming! This has been my first full year on my own post divorce and it’s been a big year for me financially (my former husband refused to budget and was a big spender). Two of my goals for the year were to set aside $300/month in an emergency fund and pay 1 extra house payment. I’m on track to exceed both goals. With a recent job promotion I’ve been inspired to really further tighten spending and start allocating everything possible to saving and investing. Food spending is the one area where I still have a lot of progress to make with my spending, I’m hoping YNAB will help me set and stick to a budget. I love the mindset that every dollar has a purpose.
I remembered these videos and came back to rewatch because I am ready! INAB :) but I think it’s funny, you are giving an example of a trip you might plan, Italy summer of 2020. Sign....
Your videos are always so uplifting...regardless of the topic! We recently sold our home and are about to close on our new one. The sale of our home left us with the ability to pay off our credit cards and that is the BEST feeling! Now I feel so excited to really start saving and building emergency funds and working my way from feeling that “living paycheck to paycheck” lifestyle. Thank you for sharing your experience and giving me so many ideas!
Your enthusiasm for personal finance is giving me the motivation I need! I would love to save enough money to put in quartz countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms
Loved the video! My husband and I are just getting into the Dave Ramsey baby steps. I think my big goal for us to be consistent with the budget. We've managed the $1000 emergency fund but we're struggling with the snowball. I just want us to get to a place where we can be open and honest about our money without it being a source of stress.
Our current financial goals are to pay off my student loans and save for two big trips next year! Thanks for this video. I've already watched it a couple times and started my YNAB budget. Coming from Every Dollar, it's intimidating but I can see the benefits in their system already!
Hi Ashley! Thanks for the all the info, I love watching your videos! My family’s big financial goal for the year is to be debt free my Jan 2020! It’s been a long journey but soon to be so worth it!
My one goal within the next three months is save money for the down payment of my home. I’m so glad you posted this video! I’ve been on a money journey for the past few months and this was very insightful. I think YNAB would be a great tool. 🤑
I love how happy and passionate you are talking about this topic! Three main goals for me: Being more hands-on with our finances since I leave it up to my husband too often, learning more about investing in general, and saving for growing our family through adoption 💗
So helpful and informative! I appreciate your openness on this topic. I would like to be a better saver, and just feel better about money and not stressed about it all the time.
Loved this I have so much fear around money. Living paycheck to paycheck, I support my disabled husband and three teenage sons, the oldest graduating high school next year. My budget is a disaster but I’ve downloaded the podcasts and would love to try ynab !
I've been tracking a lot more this year, too. It's amazing how things like take-out dinners add up! I've been better about saving but my goal this year is to get impulse purchases more in control so I can save more. I've been trying out the wishlist idea and waiting - it really works! I watch RU-vid to wind down from the day and I was bombarded by the Nsale videos. I ended up making a wishlist from the videos I watched and by the time public access opened, waiting had enabled me to cull my wishlist by like 90% and I only ended up getting things I really love and will wear a ton this fall :)
Thank you so much for this! I’ve always been put into fear and shame mode about my financial decisions that I did my best and hopefully had money left over before my next paycheck. Of course that wasn’t the case. Now I’m in a serious relationship and my bf and I plan on moving in together in the spring of next year. My goal is to create a budget that works for the both of us while also saving for our future.
In the past 2 years my husband and I have paid off both of our student loans, set up emergency savings, paid off our car, and saved for the medical expenses of having our baby. Now we can finally start saving for a home!
Love hearing you talk about this. So many helpful resources. I think my goal right now is to get more aware of our current financial situation in order to feel good about spending some of the money we have saved on big ticket items like a new kitchen table or a trip.
I love all of your videos but the ones centered on money are quickly becoming favorites. I was very passive when it came to money but your input has helped me to take control of my finances. I hope to have a six months worth of income saved soon!
Love these videos, Ashley! You're the one who introduced me to ChooseFI the podcast and listening to that has changed my and my husband's lives! It's amazing and I am so into personal finance now - so, thank you and congrats on all of your accomplishments this year!
Thanks Ashley for doing this video. I have started my debt snowball and look forward to paying off my car loan and then working on my student loan. Thanks for being so motivating and for all your recommendations. :)
Thank you so much, Ashley. I’m still struggling with my budget but this video gave me so many ideas on what to do. Been doing David Ramsey’s 7 baby steps and I went back all the way to step 1. I’m so frustrated. 😭 hopefully, I’ll be able to do it this time. 🙏🏼😉 Thanks again
Thanks so much for this incredibly helpful video Ashley. After a very difficult year, my primary goal is to get a healthy emergency fund in place. Thanks again for the inspiration.
Thank you for this video Ashley!!! I took out a loan to start my small business about a year and a half ago against a 0% interest credit card and it's been giving me anxiety for as long as I've had it! This video just motivated me to get at it!!! Thank you!!! My biggest goal this year is to pay off my CC debt as fast as possible so i can work on building my emergency fund and sinking funds!
Great video! Thank you for all the amazing tips! I would LOVE a free year of YNAB! My Finacial goal would be to pay off all credit card debt within the next year and be able to save for family and adult (no kids) vacations!
Great video. I was so happy for you when I started seeing your money videos come up! Good for you! I used to have serious money shame until my husband started sharing his budgeting process with me and explaining basic money concepts. Biggest financial goal we have is to get out of student loan debt! Credit cards are all paid off (yay!) and we're down to one student loan each. Then we can start saving for a down-payment on a house.
Right now I'm saving with my husband to build our dream house! Its a big goal and I am sure it will take some time but Im also really excited for it - especially the progress. Love your financial videos! Hope you will film some more!
Great video! I relate so much to feeling like money conversations causing anxiety. I’ve wanted to try YNAB but my hubby wasn’t so sure about the fee so 1 year would be an amazing start! Right now I’m using Goodbudget. We are saving for a kitchen reno and so that I can stay home to raise kids one day without having to stress about the loss of salary 🙏🏼
I really appreciated this video and it’s motivated me to look more at my finances, saving, spending and investing! I’m currently unemployed as I wanted a break and live with my parents but you shared some great tips and I’m excited ☺️
Really enjoyed this video! I've been thinking about starting a budget for a while and your video has been really motivating for me. My financial goal is to number one just figure out where all my money is going each month.I feel I fall into the trap of mindless spending that you were talking about and I would really like to learn to save. Thanks again for your encouragement!
We are moving in to a new house that will require a lot of renovations. I love the idea of having smaller savings accounts or goals such as: new flooring, new cabinets or interior paint that would could try to work toward and slowly knock things of our wishlist! We are getting married in 2 months and are already trying to plan how we will budget our money. Great video! So inspiring.
I’ve added all the books you mentioned to my amazon cart! But think it would be silly to purchase those right away without checking my budget haha! So my budgeting goal is to figure out where I truly sit, create a plan & implement! This year I officially got into debt with grad school loans & a car payment.. so I’m anxious to figure out how to aggressively pay both off. Thanks for the video!
I recently found your channel via Cloth & Paper and I’ve been binging your videos! 😍😍 My husband and I are on a mission to be debt free, so I love all things personal finance! Just put YNAB book on hold at the library and I can’t wait to read it! You’ve definitely got me interested in the app! Thank you for all of the recommendations!
I love your personal finance videos Ashley! One of our goals for this year is to increase our retirement contributions. We want to eventually get to 15% of our gross income.
I love this topic - and scared by it at the same time. Thanks for sharing your journey and also being vulnerable. It is daunting. Thanks for the chance of winning a one year subscription - my goal is to save towards an emergency fund.
I loved this video! Thanks for taking the time to do the time stamps and add the links, that is so helpful. I plan on showing my husband some of this as the one big thing we need to tackle is his student loan debt. He’s been burying his head in the sand for years and what he pays doesn’t even cover interest. It’s time we did something about it, so the YNAB app would be so helpful to us! I hope you continue to do more budgeting/money videos in the future and would love some recs for other budgeting RU-vid channels.
Thank you for your insights! We have just started the money discussion in our household. The first goal is to pay off our student debt (we both recently graduated) and start our emergency savings fund. we are just at the beginning of this journey and will definitely be looking into YNAB to help! We recently listened to Cait Flanders book “the year of less” which really put us into a new mindset of needing and wanting less stuff, and in turn we are working on being more mindful shoppers. Thanks again!
Okay I just took out my Total Money Makeover book from my book shelf and I really am going to try the app also. Time to get down to basics. My husband has been sick and we have had so many medical bills that I just need to get smart about our future. Thanks for the inspiration Ashley.
Ashley, always love your videos whether they be planner, money, beauty or lifestyle. I always feel like we are having a chat over coffee ☕️. I feel like I have so many financial goals at the moment. Priority goal is paying off debt; fun savings goal would be travel (my bucket list is long!)
I love these videos! We were avid travelers before coming parents, and now we've added two little girls to the mix. The dream is to go to Paris on our anniversary (ANY anniversary!), but it's become harder to track expenses and goals and priorities with a growing family. But thanks to your recommendations, I know it's possible to find that money and make it happen!
This is so inspiring! Thank you for all of your practical and easy to implement advice (both here and on your other videos). My biggest goal for this year (I'm a lecturer so I tend to work from an academic calendar) is to have a zero dollar budget. I've got a basic one but like you I tend to be a spender and I think this will help me plan better!
I honestly can’t understand how people even live without YNAB. If it ever goes out of business, I won’t even know how to manage my money. I have been using it for over three years. However I still need to do a much better job of building savings rather than justifying spending my disposable income.
Loved this video. You make me want to take better control of our finances!! One financial goal is to save up for travel. We really want to go to southern Italy next year and I want to reign in some of my purchasing to put away for that trip!
This video was so inspiring, Thank you for sharing all of your input with us! One of my financial goals would be to clear out all credit card debt and start saving, by giving each dollar i make a purpose!
Thanks for such an informative video!! I'm currently pregnant with our first child, so a huge financial goal my husband and I have is to get control of our finances so that we can confidently start saving for college and all things baby related! I just downloaded the YNAB book thanks to this video and I'm so excited to dive in!
Looking to add an addition to our home to accommodate our growing family ☺️ our goal is to start saving beforehand - tackling our debt and managing our money makes me feel so much better about things. Currently using Mint and spreadsheets but not loving my setup.
Re-watching again. I love this. I graduated in 2004, only used my degree a year, was so in debt and when I finished...am still in debt with student loans- over $75,000. The most I ever made with my degree was $9.34/hr with the State of Tn.!!! I am getting ready to finish my MA so I am hoping to minimize my loans but I REALLY hope to have a job that at least I can support my children! I'm dying to know also what is on your necklace? I love Mejury and have several things from there on my wishlist as well.
I've been thinking about trying YNAB, so thank you for your insight! My current financial goal is to pay off credit card debt. I recently completed a cross-country move (Hawaii to Boston) and, unfortunately, picked up a little bit of CC debt in the process.
My husband and I want to start a family but we haven't finished paying off debt we accumulated in our move to our new house/wedding. Paying off that debt (and staying out of credit card debt in the process!) is my number one goal I'd like to tackle!!
Ashley, this is a great video full of so many resources! I hope many people see it and become curious to grow their financial knowledge. It worries me when I see a store like Sephora putting out a credit card; it could lead to a never ending cycle for people who don’t have a good handle on budgeting. 😕 Anyway, your giveaway is a wonderful one. We use an Excel file that we built for our budget but I’m curious about YNAB. One financial goal that I’ve been working on is lowering my spending on “fluffy stuff” (makeup, entertainment, non-essentials). I already have enough stuff and wanna appreciate it rather than acquire more. 🤗🙌🏽
Ashley, thank you so much for this video! I remember your first video about YNAB, and it really inspired me to try the free trial of the app! However, I found it hard to follow and keep up with, even after watching several of the YNAB tutorials. So I lost my mojo and stopped using it. But now that you mentioned the other YTer, I’m going to check out his channel and try it again. I have so many financial goals, but the biggest would be to pay down...pay off???...my credit card debt, which I’ve had since college. So we’re talking decades here. 🤭 Thank you for the giveaway, and paying it forward! If I win I’d love to do the same! But no matter that, I appreciate you sharing your experience, research, and resources. 😊 ~ Margot
I have been using YNAB for almost half a year and it has made such a difference. My hope is that within 3 years all my debt is paid off and I can take my twin boys to Disney World :)
Just wow, Ash! So many good things about this video, I don't know where to start!! I love how you seem to have surprised yourself by finding a passion for saving and that's what I'd like to uncover for myself. My husband and I are thinking of purchasing a new car minus the payments, so that's a short term saving goal we're working toward. As well, we both love traveling and would love to go abroad, but that'll require more effort on both our parts! Maybe YNAB is the way to go. Thanks so much for all the preparation that went into making this video and for sharing your new found passion! PS Bo's adorable.
Thanks so much for watching, Hannah (and for the Bo compliment - I can't get over how cute he is 😂)! Wishing you guys success as you work toward the new car goal. 😀
My biggest financial goal this next year is to SAVE. I’m entering my 3rd of college & the goal is to graduate debt free. I am able to save a good percentage amount, but I’d like to cut down on little impulse spending and strictly stick to my pre-apportioned categories so that my numbers stay regular and consistent so I can feel confident and save even more.
A financial goal I have is to pay off my Mother-in-law. We had to borrow money from her to fix our A/C unit that stopped working last summer and we couldn't go another summer without one. So she graciously lent us the money so we could get it fixed. It's quite a lot of money we owe her and I would love to have her paid off in a year or less. Other then that, SAVE! I am the worst at saving money. I would love to fully fund Christmas with cash and my kids going back to school as well. OK...so that's more then one goal. :) Thank you SO much for this video. It was so informative and I'm definitely going to check out the resources you've provided us in the description box.
I adore your channel and I especially appreciate your personal finance videos and related recommendations! My financial goal is to be able to fully fund my Roth IRA each year.
Great video, listening to someone who has been successful with their budget is super motivating. I would like to build up a 1 month emergency fund as well as be paying all of my next months bills with last months paycheck.
Thank you for the motivating video! My financial goal is to pay off credit card debt and be able to afford a trip to Europe for our 10 year wedding anniversary!
Hi Ashley. Thank you for the "wealth" of information. I appreciate your willingness to share. I look forward to your money conversations because they encourage me. I am a graduate student and feeling the pressure of student loans. My goal is to be debt free by the time I graduate and have to start paying them. I really want to remove that stress. It would be freeing to pay them in lump sums over a short time span. If I were to be completely honest, I would love to start paying them before they are due.
Financial goal: as a military spouse, my contributions to our income sometimes vary with each move. Our most recent move led us to a small town with little employment opportunities. I have a degree in biochemistry, and I applied to 33 jobs, 13 of which were at a hospital. I got one job, 10 hours a week working at a gym. My goal is to have that emergency fund, or flex-income fund. My husband and I have all joint accounts, but I still feel guilty when I don't have much to contribute. I want to be more helpful and financially independent so it isn't such a deep worry we have to share together.
Thank you so much for this informative video! As a fellow spender, I really struggle with budgeting and am always looking for helpful tips and resources. I would love to pay off my massive student loan debt!
My goal is to save for a down payment on a house!!! I'm doing a pretty good job saving, but I think I could do better. Thanks, Ashley! I love your videos about finance and money. Keep up the good work!
Love the money content! We have videos that teach us how to use eye shadow - why not videos that give us tips on budgets? My biggest goal is to figure out YnAB. I’ve had it since January but the way credit cards work on it confuses me.
