Great video!! With regard to diet. Please don’t go on a diet. Over the coming months just make small changes with what you eat - reduce carbs (=fiber/sugar/starch). Eat the plate method - 1/2 plate veggies, 1/4 plate lean protein, 1/4 plate carb. Add in some dairy, eggs, fruit into your day too. We need protein, carbs, fats to be healthy just in the right ratios. Same with exercise - movement of all kinds is beneficial whether it is walking, vacuuming, skipping rope, playing tennis, dancing as well as lifting weights, gym circuits or aerobics. Diets don’t work in the long run. Tweak your ratios and food groups!!!!!

Agreed. Especially some of the fad diets that are so popular. Studies are coming that will show how detrimental these can be to your overall health--specifically your heart! You have to find what works for you, and don't be in a rush.

I wouldn't change a thing about your teeth. EVERYONE in America (it seems like) has perfectly straight teeth. You have a beautiful smile; a little tiny bit of imperfect is charming and real.

I know as a picky eater this is probably not what you want to hear, but I lost 10 lbs this year by just moving toward a more plant-based diet. I read the book How Not to Die and it completely revolutionized the way I think of food and my health. It’s a big book and seems intimidating but it is 110% worth a read. Loved your goals check in and it’s inspiring me to look back at some of my January aspirations, too!

Yay for your thyroid numbers being better! I know that must be a relief. I do a modified paleo diet. I do eat some rice and quinoa but have cut out all other grains, I also avoid refined sugars, soy, unhealthy oils etc. I definitely feel like it helps keep off excess weight and keeps my energy up :)

Congratulations to Jeremy on his new position! To avoid willy-nilly shopping (which IS so much fun), I try to think about the kinds of items that I felt I was missing at this time last year (so, for example, right now, I'm thinking to myself, "What was I missing for fall last year that I wished I had had?" For me, it's casual skirts and blouses I can wear with jeans). It helps me fill in the gaps in my wardrobe and forces me to think about all the great things I already own. Obviously there are always new things that catch my eye, but I feel a little less swayed by them because I've got a loose list in my mind of the things I want to start with first. Not sure if it would work for you, but it helps me!

I’m very surprised that your hubby wants to meal plan and shop....wow...he’s a keeper !! I’m sure you have heard of online shopping at a lot of the larger grocery stores...that might help you.

My cat yelled at me yesterday because it was raining! lol Ash, you achieved some of your 2019 goals and even added a couple--that's amazing! My fitness goal got demoted when I got obscenely busy at work this year and I can feel it. I want to recommit to making my fitness a priority and an August reboot is exactly what I need! Good luck to us! I saw a Premier Pro editing class for beginners on Skillshare… Thanks for spoiling us with two in a row! XO

hi Ashley! so nice to see your goals are going well :) i was inspired by your recent videos to go back to YNAB and my current goal is to learn more about it and personal finance in general! i wanted to share that over the years i battled an eating disorder and vowed to never diet again. i strongly encourage you to look into intuitive eating. there's an amazing and supportive community on instagram and facebook and i've found that learning tools to listen to what my body needs and craves has improved my physical and mental health tremendously. the book most people start with is called Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole, but i highly suggest podcasts such as Food Psych or Body Kindness, i found them to be extremely supportive in my recovery. hopefully that resonates with you too!

I would suggest two things for health that I’ve recently been keeping up and have felt so good! The first is I started a Fitness Blender program - the FB30, it’s a great program that’s very affordable and gives you a structured exercise program. Fitness blender in general is amazing resource for free workout videos of all kinds and recipes. The second is having a food log - I track calories with that now but when I first started I just wrote down what I was eating. It helps to be aware and mindful of all of the little snacking you’re doing when you aren’t thinking about it. I would say be careful if you want to start tracking calories, and I’ve been advised to only do it for a while to get an idea of how many calories are in common things I eat - mostly to learn portion control. Any who - just generally moving at least 30min a day and eating as many plant based foods as you can will help!

Love the goals check-in idea! As far as Premiere Pro, Adobe has (free/included w/ subscriptions) tutorials for their products on their site, though I know "playing" in the program on your own is a good way to learn too. You can hop to whatever segments are relevant or watch a course all the way through, and they come with course files to practice along. One alternative to the work-your-way-through-a-cookbook goal could be to make some set number of new recipes in the year. I've done that for baking and cooking, and that way you can pull from print and online resources and just keep a tally or list somewhere (like a meal planning notebook or Anylist). It gives a little extra motivation to keep from having multiple weeks in a row of familiar recipes.

Meal planning has been a game changer for us. It's always a work in progress because some nights we're both tired and just want something easy, but overall it's forced us to really try hard and not go the easy route. We've been doing Portion Fix from Beachbody (not selling it!!) but it's been an interesting process to see what we're truly eating. I'm 9 months out from having my second child, so I've been real results with just really watching what I eat, eating less junk and eating more whole, healthy foods. Love your videos, Ashley! The decluttering challenge I may try.

Your video is really inspiring, Ashley! 🌟 What a nice check in to reinvigorate yourself and your viewers 🙋🏻‍♀️ I use AnyList for groceries and recipes and love it too. I live in a rural place now where we don’t have grocery delivery but I used to use it and loved it! Safeway has free delivery if you buy a certain, reasonable amount. Sometimes it’s nice to use the time you’d spend in the store for other goals. 😊 I recommend Downshiftology as a channel with good heathy food ideas. 🍎🥑🥚🌶

Creating the life you want to live and becoming a better person are the best goals you could strive for because the journey is the success! Inbox zero has been a major fail for me... I started out well for about a week, but it became too overwhelming and I couldn't seem to catch up. So now, I've been unsubscribing to everything except the things that REALLY interest me - a form of decluttering I guess, and will tackle it again. I edit in Premiere and I took a class locally, which made all the difference. Oh and have you tried tasting a tomato straight off the vine? Tastes different from store bought and you might like it :-)

I love Orangetheory! It’s nice because you can definitely go at your own pace, but it also helps push me more than just going to the gym on my own! It’s been a life changer for me.

Great video Ashley and congratulations on setting and achieving some of your goals. I have to tell you how beautiful your cat is. I have a mix Bengal and Abyssinian and he is the light of our lives. He walks very well on a leash and we get many comments when we are out walking with him 💕

Hi Ashley, loved the video! I will get to looking into this, but I’m in the middle of moving and new job stuff at the moment - do you think Fiology would be useful as I’m in the UK? Do let us know how you get on with it! I, too, like the idea of a workbook. In terms of fitness/weight stuff - I really like Cassey Ho on Blogilates. It’s free, on you tube and she is so much fun. I started Keto a few weeks ago to jump start weight loss and I haven't religiously weighed myself but my clothes fit so much better! I know at the end of the day, it's about making permanent lifestyle changes - but Keto is helping me cut carbs and eat more veggies than I ever have. I'm hoping it'll help me get used to this way of eating so I'm not binging on pasta/rice/bread (my loves... lol) allll the time and learn to eat in a more balanced way. I'm also a big fan of Classpass! You can try it for free for two weeks to see if you like it. You can go to any participating workout class in your area. I'm in the DMV area, too, and there's a good amount. I found my favorite yoga studio through it and you also never get bored because you can try yoga one day, barre the next, and even get an hour of gym time at chain gyms instead of taking a class.

I wasn't sure what Orange Theory was, so of course had to look it up. I am up in Northern Washington and unfortunately don't have one close by. I think I would really like this. I strength train and do a little cardio but this sounds like the best of both worlds. The first class is free. I think you should go try it. They say they can customize your workout so if you can't do something they should be able to have you do something else. Also study shows Interval training really is the best way to go. Your hometown Instagram project sounds great. Go for it. I'm sure it would be well received. Had to laugh about your health books. I do the exact same thing and I am quite a few years older than you.

I have been buying less new clothes for about a year now and it has helped me save money and be more creative in my style. I have been buying pre-owned, also I've gone to some swap meet events where we bring all that we don't want and we can take whatever we want. Sounds dangerous and awful ( there are rules for the clothes, they are not rags or totally used up) but it has been very revealing. I am plus size and I normally would buy "safe" things that I would for sure wear and so, my style hadn´t changed in a while. Now as clothes have been less expensive I can be very brave at some point. It resonated with me with what you said about wishlists and no buys. I do buy some things but they are really special and thoughtful, ( also because of you I followed Katie from What Kate Finds and her year of 5 finds is changing me!) This wasn't a goal that I had but wanted to share, as you were so open and cute and rambly. PS: I think you are totally gonna pass your financial saving goal. I can feel it in my bones

I've been doing Orange Theory for a few months and I'm conflicted on it - I think it's pretty pricey, but the workouts are always challenging/make me sore! I'm most likely going to cancel it because I'm not a huge fan of treadmill/running (which is half the class). My personal favorite workouts are yoga and weight lifting, which definitely make me look toned and feel strong! Also - I lost weight most effectively by calorie counting (r/1200isplenty) - this may be harder if Jer is doing all the cooking, but I'd just do my best and practice portion control :) Paleo eating is a safe bet since it promotes a lot of fruits, vegetables, and protein while avoiding sugar, processed food, and white carbs. Keto is pretty extreme and I think better for those with a lot of weight to lose and blood sugar issues. Intermittent fasting works well for some, and definitely helps with portion control. Do not do Keto. My mother in law was in the hospital with pancreatitis. The doctor said Keto diets can lead to pancreas issues. I personally am on weight watchers and I’ve lost 8 lbs in 2 months (I’m a normal BMI by the way)

This is not helpful on the not buying health books front, but I am reading Dr. Jason Fung's books about intermittent fasting...it's only been a few weeks but I have lost some weight and I feel really good. Opted for the 16/8 arrangement.

Ok, I think I'm going to at least try Keto. My dad really loves it. For photography, I search the camera that I have on RU-vid and watch tutorials. I also LOVE Julia Trotti. Her channel is incredible and full of inspiration.

Try signing for a class on lynda.com for Premiere Pro. I did it and found it very helpful. I’m on keto at my doctors suggestion. I have good bloodwork. But weight wouldn’t move. The weight has been coming off with keto. At my last appointment my doctor was pleased with my results.

Great video as usual! You should totally try Orangetheory, it’s a tough workout but you can modify it to your needs. The coaches are great. In terms of diet, do something that’s sustainable and that you can maintain for life. I’ve been working with a Registered Dietician her name is Amanda Neighbert. She has a program called LEAN, it’s been life changing! It’s based on an intermittent fasting and carb cycling. Look her up on Instagram.

Have you heard of Wander Wealthy? I feel like you might enjoy her Invested Program! It goes over all the basics of investing and walks you through the different accounts and sets you up to figure out your specific strategy so that you can be confident with investing (both taxable and retirement accounts).
