When he said as it was originally intended to be done I thought he meant more hard rock, not slower. This was my favorite song of his since I was 8 but I later realized it cried out to be played as a full on hard rock song with a driving band, not the weird brittle echo and whistling take on the Monkees album. If I don’t get to it myself in my lifetime I hope somebody reads this and does it, those chords are brilliant.
