This tv series was absolutely superb. If you are feeling depressed about the world. Just watch this series and you are garaunteed to feel a lot better.
Respect 🙌 I'm that sad I've even got the original monkey from folk law tattooed on my arm, it's our monkey with his staff kicking through a cloud. I'm 51 and every now and then I try to get the cloud down but alas it never works😢
Strictly speaking, she's not "the Buddha" - there are many Buddhas, male and female. That's Kannon / Guan Yin, which is always shown as female. Kannon is the most important Buddha for a whole subset of Buddhist sects, which are the most popular branches in Japan. Her role is frequently compared to Virgin Mary. A figure of nobility, compassion, and grace.

In this JAPANESE production of a CHINESE story - they deliberately cast a woman to play the monk Tripitaka as well as casting a woman to play the Historical Buddha with whom Monkey is having a dialogue. Kannon/Guanyin IN THIS TV SERIES was played by a man, even though that manifestation of the Buddha of Compassion is most commonly considered female, as when Buddhism spread from India to China in the 8th Century, the Buddha of Compassion had a largely female following, those in charge didn't like that, so the Buddha of Compassion "underwent a procedure" and was henceforth considered female. Buddha nature transcends gender. Humans are a sexually dimorphic species so they only ever come as EITHER men or women, of those who wish to transition - some do, some don't.

Why didn’t anyone hire this dubbing team to handle every Kung Fu movie that came out in the 1970s!? There’s actual ACTING involved here and the voices fit the characters like a glove.
@@adamglenn5477 He died this year, sadly. The guy who voiced Pigsy also voiced Gollum in the cartoon film of Lord of the Rings - and a radio series, in which Legolas was voiced by the same guy who voiced Monkey!
All Monkey had to say is "I can't leave your hand for your hand and the Universe are one and neither has no end or beginning." And he would have ruled heaven.

"come to the himalayas, monkey!" (Monkey summons his cloud and promptly whizzes off - arriving to meet a large Buddha straddling the divide between heaven and earth).. "I can seem big too!!" I wonder how close the English dubbing is to the original Japanese dialogue. The writers managed to combine the weighty and spiritual with the absurd and risible without mockery or disrespect. Quite a feat. He never leaves Buddha's hand.. Despite believing he'd traveled to the end of the world.. ( "Do you know me?" .. "Everything is within this and this is within everything".... "Monkey, in all that is. Everything has it's situation" ) It's been some time since I've seen this! The dialogue was brilliantly written though. When Buddah banishes and traps him in a mountain at the end of the episode to impress lessons of patience upon him he turns the sentiments of Buddah on their head humorously , shouting out in protest "You're doing it to yourself SO YOU SAY!! "IT IS YOU who is stuck in here!!"
Yeah, every time I have a cone or half a bottle of Scotch - or both, then I try harder, never bloody works though and the neighbors call the Cops to arrest me as I am jumping around my back yard....
Nooo. why did you cut it short before the ending ? the 5 pillars at the end of the universe.., he writes his name on one of the pillars and fly's back to Buddha only to have buddha show him her hand with his name written on one of her fingers.. Missed all the deep stuff as a kid, but watching it back on the dvd collection.. Some deep stuff in this :)
It's marvellously allegorical and symbolic whilst dressed in simple clothes. Monkey himself is uncontrolled thought or mind which is born from chaos. Only through tripitaka (prayer and meditation) can mind be controlled.
As I remember it, Buddha use to appear as woman in order to seem more kind & less intimidating to mortals. The Goddess of Compassion (I forget how to spell her name) use to appear as a man so she wouldn't appear weak or an easy target, despite having a bodyguard.
Great memories, I so wanted his staff, my mothers broom wasn't quite the same, though the settee made a good cloud substitute for flying, assuming the dog wasn't sat on it....
This was my favorite Monkey episode ever. Shame the next part isn't shown, after monkey graffitis the five pillars and thinks he is now the great sage Buddha holds up his/her hand and shows him the graffiti - he has not even escaped from Buddhas hand!
Ha! Yes, sorry. In the book Monkey writes Great Sage Equal of Heaven on The Buddha's middle finger and urinates on the thumb. Buddha pushes Monkey out of the Western Heaven and transforms his hand into the five elements, making Wu Hsing Shan and imprisons Monkey there for 500 years.
Talk about ending the clip too soon. When he gets to the end of the universe he sees five pillars. It turns out they are the fingers of the Buddha. He never left her hand.
Can anybody remember the other one from 1980 tv series sword fighting heavy tattoo long hair Japanese i think or could of been Chinese they had wrist bands what had sharp blades English dubbed can not remember the name but watched every episode

if he had stayed a tender of the horses (lowest job in heaven) and went about hi way without being conceited, would he eventually have made his way to the top and be recognized?
The sir of on on to me is the productions of realignment of time before it hire me to one in, in this way it bought out the care for but if it funds into the game it works out cry out and then the in so of me.
