In California regardless of your income on certain crimes you don’t have to pay for bail. This was done because many people believe it’s unfair that only the wealthy can afford bail. The previous system sucked because already poor people lost their jobs for being in jail regardless of if they’re found guilty. The previous system also encouraged poor people to take plea deals even when they are innocent because they had to stay in jail until they went to court. What happened in the video was disgusting and clearly shows the law needs to improve. However the way this law is presented in this video without even an ounce of reasarch is kinda bad.

David Ransom yes it has the potential to do that but it overwhelmingly allows people who are innocent to continue with their lives without having to worry about not being able to afford bail. Just to be clear people still have to go to court. They just get free bail. This allows the poor and wealthy equality under our legal system.

What if Dijon had been well off, in that case having a bail system would have done nothing and he still would have gone free, whereas if he was less well off then he would be rotting in jail, but instead of his crimes being the determining factor it would only be his inability to pay. I would rather a million Dijons go free even unjustly than have anyone locked in a steel cage against their will solely due to their inability to pay.
