As a former Sommelier let me say you did a marvelous job. I would just suggest that when smelling any alcoholic beverage, one should try smelling both the glass but also the space above the glass. Some volatiles are lighter than others, and hence the beverage will have different aromas when the nose is held a few centimeters above the glass than it would when one puts their nose in the glass. Also, you did top notch job on the "double sip". The first sip of any spirit opens the pours of the mouth and gives a bit of a burn, but the second sip is where one really tastes the drink. Nice job sir, as always.

Ash. I no longer drink alcoholic beverages because of my liver but when I did I did like a good single malt scotch. But I also liked Famous Grouse blended Scotch whisky it's a very mild sipping or mixing whiskey. I was also a big Bourbon fan. Cheers Ron

Hello Ash, I bought a bottle and I liked it but not enough to go buy a second bottle. I had it neat, over ice and with club soda and ice. I have rediscovered Johnnie Walker. I haven’t had it in years, I’m enjoying it with ginger ale, very refreshing. I hope you do more videos like this. After all, enjoying an alcoholic beverage is sometimes close to chap’s nirvana. I never had whiskey with tonic water, I will give it a try. Thank you.

Great video, Ash! As an old Kentucky Boy I of course know about whiskey! The ‘ unofficial’ ( and illegal) family business was moonshining. Though not a fan of it personally, I would definitely give it a try. It’s obviously has added honey and vanilla, and barreled to add the oaky flavor. If you get state-side, I’ll get you some of the ‘family business’.😉

Now that sounds interesting - I've never really connected with the Bourbons (Jim Beam & Jack D) and I always associate US liquor with these brands, but I imagine the home brew would be a lot better.

A chap’s guide to whiskey, what more could one want? Great first video Ash! My personal favourite is Laphroaig 10, not the most balanced or approachable dram, but I love it nevertheless!

Great review of a splendid whisky! Thanks. As a chap who works in a whisky retailers, I've discovered that the "hierarchy" of whiskies is not that important - personal taste is what matters. I think a cultured gentleman has a certain breadth of appreciation, open mindedness, and the ability to enjoy each thing for what it is. In my time at the shop I've tried 40 year old malt whiskies that were just "OK", blends that were fabulous and everything in between. If you're ever in Norwich Ash, pop in to the whisky shop and we can have a little sampling session! Cheers!

Hello Ash, I'm due to go whisky shopping in the next few days. So I'll give it a try. Especially as here in Gibraltar its only about £14 for a 1 ltr bottle. I usually sip whisky straight as I normally drink Gin based cocktails, but prehaps an old fashioned might make a nice change. Anyway cheers and i hope you found your way home safely.

A step up in blends and a much better name But i remain a single malt man, with malts having so much variance in style, tastes in the regions of Scotland there is normally something for everyone

Its a pure new wool blazer from Crombie. A nice frugal pick-up from ebay. Worn 3 times previously and in 'as-new' condition - a snip at £20 (I was the only bidder).
