The definition actually changed in Merriam-Webster over the last 3 decades. If you can find one from the early 1980s and 1990s contrary to believe today it was actually listed as "an ignorant person" I know because I have hard copy dictionaries. This is what I was taught in school and most schools in the 80s and 90s have taught
