Stupid comment. What reviews of the THX amps are filled with audiophile fluff ? Maybe at worst as a comparison to other amplifiers which may have coloration.

Still, why does he never provide insight into what equipment sounds like? Rather than it sounds "Clean" or "Transparent". How is the bass and mid-range? Fair questions that any reviewer who has the ability to discern would elaborate on. Zeos wouldn't know what the source sounded like exactly. Very few would.

RME ADI-2 is very capable as headphone amp on it's own, you don't really need to add one.

In the age of internet shopping, its a necessary evil. There's plenty of bad measuring stuff that is, well, actually bad. There's plenty of bad measuring stuff that some people like, and not others. No one thinks this top-measuring stuff sounds bad, maybe not ideal, but never bad. Since we don't all have local dealers where we can go try out what we may like, its just a more reliable way to spend your money.

yeah ASR shits on tube amps lol. They measure bad but it doesn't mean it's bad.

Its really up to the headphone, the music and the listener. These high/low number amps should be the benchmark we measure all our sound expectations against. I love my tubes. But before I go for enjoyable distortion I want to see my headphones true face.

So Tubes are just expensive equalizers?

@@masterxyr Well I was eyeing the thx 789 before the sp200 came out, but that would've been a bitch to import. Prolly over 500 euro. So 290 without having to deal with drop sounded very very good indeed :P

I can not even turn the volume of the SP200 more than like to 7 o'clock (like one hour up...) without it hurting and that is on low gain on HD 650's. So no idea why one would need 6 W.

@@lo1991 The SP200 uses a really cheap potentiometer to control the volume... it's way too aggressive early on... If you max out both the 887/789 and SP200 to max output... the 887/789 have more power overall.. balanced. And they have much better potentiometers. But yeah... most people probably don't need 6 watts.

According to the data from Audiosciencereview, the 887 is slightly more superior than 789 and SP200. Personally, I think SP200 is a better buy than the other two if you don't live in USA. 3 things why it is a better buy, it far less cheaper, it has a swappable Power cord and lastly, it has a reliable 1 warranty fulfilled by Shenzhengaudio.

Actually.. yes.

IMO.. the THX stuff is a bit of a fad, honestly. I know Z loves it.. and I love Z... but a lot of guys on the Hifiguides forum have already left it behind... And the tech has actually been around for decades... THX and Drop just popularized it. There's a lot of amps that sound "better" that don't color the sound. I spent a lot of time A/Bing the SPL Phonitor E (German version of Rupert Neve), for example, and the SPL amp is quite a bit more resolving than anything from THX. Still incredibly clean and linear and flat... but the transparency and delineation between sounds is very audibly better than any of the THX amps... even on something cheap like the Blon 03.(And I cannot tell the difference between DACs... even the D90 and Enog 2 Pro... they sound the same to me) I think the biggest thing holding the THX amps back is the power delivery method... yeah it's lots of power, but it still relies on a cheap PSU. Andrew Mason, the THX designer, argues otherwise... but it's hard to argue the audible differences between something like the THX 789 and something class A, like the SPL Phonitor E. THX is *good*, especially for the price... but it's far from endgame... and honestly I think most people would prefer something with even a tiny bit of coloration, if we're being honest.

@@asgiov there may be amps that you view as being superior but when you're talking about discernible differences, the THX amps are worth the hype. The phonitor E, that you mention is 4 times the cost of the 789 and 887. At that price it better be superior to the two THX amps. It should be noticeably better, not slightly and definitely not indistinguishable.

What does two way bluetooth mean? Do you have an example of such device?

When it is possible to direct Bluetooth signal from your portable player to the dac/amp and listen to the music using wired connection to the headphones, AND to be able to play the incoming signal from the dac/amp on your Bluetooth headphones. So, basically dac/amp can act as receiver and transmitter of Bluetooth signal. I hope what I just wrote makes sense.

SP200 : -Less then $300 -Possible QC issues -Good after purchase support(if you actually get a bad unit) -Significantly smaller -No power brick Other 2: -$400 -No significant QC issues (unknown for the Monoprice model though) -Piss poor after purchase support from Drop (haven't had to deal with monoprice, as I've bought nothing but cables and cheep adapters from them)

@@jordanhart9708 The volume pot in the SP200 is garbage easliy the worst that I have come across. It has no resistance and it is loose. Linear volume pot does not make sense in the SP200 because of how powerful that amp is. Low gain on the SP200 is not low enough. Having 3 gain stage is quite nice especially if you have efficent headphones.

@@kristoffer8740 So we have a singular flaw in the SP200. Is it a $110 flaw? I don't know, I don't have any of the three. I also don't have multi-hundred/$1k+ iems to pick out every tiny little flaw with a less expensive product. If you'd like to continue down that rabbit hole, be my guest.

It has too much gain(+6db on low, +18db on high, extra 6db on each when balanced in) and no balance out and shitty volume control. No.

207 are a more wild sound. With the pad mods you get more low end then 700. But yes, 700 with its perfection in imaging and open sound is still God Tier.
