I actually suka monorail KL when I was budak2. I knew that dulu the monorail was the only way nak pergi Bukit Bintang kalau taknak guna kereta. But now Bukit Bintang got MRT, so senang nak pergi from Damansara and Cheras nak pergi Bukit Bintang. Tapi the novelty of the Monorail is why I still like it. And it also gives a nice view of the area.
Gov may want to consider constructing new train lines: one passing through Brickfields area, interchange with Tun Sambanthan monorail, then venture down south to medium-density suburbs like Salak South, Bandar Sri Permaisuri and Cheras Taman Pertama area; the other going up north from Muzium Negara to Bandaraya station via Botanical Garden (bypassing Chinatown area served by existing LRT and MRT lines) then converge with monorail line at Medan Tuanku, followed by Kampung Baru and Raja Uda that can be integrated with LRT and MRT respectively, and finally Ampang Hilir areas like U-Thant and Cochrane. Allowing new lines to have paid-to-paid integration with monorail stations may boost demand and ridership, since it can also cater passengers from areas served by the new lines who no longer need to rely on buses or the existing Ampang line to get to such places, making monorail a more desirable option for travelling in the busiest streets of KL.
Some of these parts will hopefully be serviced by the future MRT-3, but i like your idea, it could be a high capacity LRT since building heavy vehicle system in bricksfield and ampang hillir area will be quite a challenge, unless we spend a lot of money of course...
Thanks for the analysis. Glad to see a home-grown RU-vidr doing something different from the rest. I am not an expert but from what I understand monorails take up a lot less space when building above ground in a dense area such as in a CBD. I suppose at the time building below ground was just too costly and risky due to the karstic nature of the ground as mentioned in your video. As a public transportation service for the city center I have mixed feelings on its success or failure - as a consumer, I would say its useful to have as an option for intra-city centre travel but its capacity and reach is limited. As a commercial venture, its been well documented to be a failure with the original operator mounting large financial losses before the government take over by Prasarana.
I get a lot of information from this video. I hope that u can continue to do this type of video to make people know about Malaysia transportation. I think u can do another video talking about kvmrt history story or talking about other cities their own planning or future to build railway transport. wish u can get more than 1k subscribes before year end.😁
Monorail is not convenient for locals who commute to work at the golden triangle/ cbd area, long waiting time or gap from one train to the next and lack of timing information are major turn offs...compare to lrt and mrt, there are e more trains during peak hours..and there are clear information signage display the next upcoming train..ktm komuter is even better in scheduling these days Having said that monorail is definitely cool from tourism perspective but that's just it
