Great performance of this song by Byron Berline, known today as one of the finest fiddle players in Bluegrass music along with of course Kenny Baker & Glenn Duncan. This song was written by the legendary Bob Wills and Tommy Duncan. Byron along with Bill & the boys do a great job here; love this music!! Bill Monroe is indeed a true national treasure! He's gone to the Lord now, but we'll always remember Bill with fondness & love. Great dance he does with the young lady; hope I can do as well when I'm 71! :)
Uh, "Sally Goodin" is MUCH older than the versions done by Bob Wills/Tommy Duncan. It's an old "play-party" song, and was famously recorded in the 1920s by Eck Robertson, with most of the variations and embellishments that Byron Berline (and other modern fiddlers) play here . . . That minor correction aside, I fully agree with you that this is a fine version of the tune, and like you, I always loved seeing Bill dance on stage!
Thank you, Tom for your post. I mentioned in my prior that credit for the song went to Bob Wills & Tommy Duncan. I obtained that info from the discography contained in my 4 cd album of Bill Monroe's greatest Bluegrass music that I play a lot. If that's a mistake on my part, I apologize. That said, still love this song & in fact all of Bill's great music. jerry in TX :)
Lets not forget that he also played fiddle on the Rolling Stones first album; Let it Bleed. So i guess that either makes him a famous rock star or it makes The Rolling Stones a famous Country Band ! Giggles 😲😨😜😎
