+AARON B -- You're absolutely right, also the truth is those big old females really don't taste as good as the 9 -- 11 inch perch, let those big females spawn!
Great video. Seems all the griping is from jealous anglers. That many large perch means there are plenty to go around. More than enough to resupply that lake. I would have kept a dozen for a good fish fry. No law was broken here.
I think its the american record thats stood for a long time but they eat to many of them before they get to record sizes tell em they have bigger ones in sweden and they say your lying
pady mo I just got this info from Wickapedia that explains the 3 types of perch. You guys catch bigger perch because they are European perch which grow bigger, not because we eat them before they get big enough. Just like a Kamloops strain rainbow trout gets bigger than other strains of rainbow trout or a Kodiak Grizzly bear gets bigger than a Mexican Grizzly bear or a Rocky Mountian Grizzly. Most authorities recognize three species within the perch genus:The @wiki/European_perch (@wiki/Perca_fluviatilis) is found in @wiki/Europe and @wiki/Asia. This species is typically greenish in color with dark vertical bars on its sides with a red or orange coloring in the tips of its fins. The European perch has been successfully introduced in @wiki/New_Zealand and @wiki/Australia, where it is known as the redfin perch or English perch. In Australia, larger specimens have been bred, but the species rarely grows larger than about six pounds. The @wiki/Balkhash_perch (@wiki/Perca_schrenkii) is found in @wiki/Kazakhstan, (in @wiki/Lake_Balkhash and @wiki/Lake_Alakol), @wiki/Uzbekistan, and @wiki/China. It is very similar to the European perch, and grows to a comparable size. The @wiki/Yellow_perch (@wiki/Perca_flavescens), smaller and paler than the @wiki/European_perch, is found in the @wiki/United_States and @wiki/Canada. In northern areas, it is sometimes referred to as the lake perch. This species is prized for its food quality and has often been raised in hatcheries and introduced into areas in which it is not native. Yellow perch are almost identical in appearance to European perch, but have a more yellow coloring. These fish typically only reach a size of about 15 in and 2.2 lb (1 kg).

So the perch in Sweden and Europe are European perch which get bigger. So they aren't the same as the Yellow Perch here in the US and Canada. That's why you catch bigger perch, they aren't the same type of perch.
I suppose they are as tasty and well so comlicated to debone completely as well haha. Most perch here are like dwarfes anyway :) Have to find the big ones in the right place. Not an easy task.
Great video, no swearing and your son did a fine job showing off the catch like a pro. I may have let that last big hen go but you guys certainly didn't over do it.
Understand a big ol perchy but some of thoes foot balls I'm sure full of eggs. But so happy to c the kidos tearing them up. Good job boys. Don't listen to the haters. Aka I'm jellous.
That Swedish record is for European perch not Yellow perch, they are different. But I would like to catch big European perch also, they look like great fish too!
Let the preg ones go man. Great vid still but please take it into consideration we would have alot more of thise nice perch if the preg ones were set free
cascade lake in idaho is the laske in this video (and thats all i got to say about that).........WTF ..........CASCADE LAKE jumbo perch and trout is all thats in the lake thats why they get so big........oh an did i menchin there is no limit on them LOL
I just looked up the world record for yellow perch(which is what the fish in the video are) on wikipedia and it was 4 lb 3 oz and was caught in New Jersey here in the US.
Awsome catch brother ... still good.eaters no.matter how.big... im sure theres tons more were.that came from .. that lake looks like no one else fishes.there .. is that in canada
There are lots of perch that big in that lake and we release about 80% of what we catch. But perch that big are great to eat. You get 2 nice big boneless filets that are awesome to eat. Nice firm white meat. The limit in the lake is 50 per angler.
to OP: it really depends on the lakes, fish grow way faster in a lake with plenty of foreage. A 14 inch perch may be 5 years old in one lake but 3-y-o in another. I make up these numbers but you get the gesture.
We were in about 17 feet of water fishing a foot off the bottom. It was a muddy bottom with dingy water. If you look at the other video I have "Underwater Hooksets by the JawJacker, Jumbo Perch Underwater", you can see the water conditions.
I think that he means how many citation size fish did u catch not citations for doing anything illegal ... Great fish and great time to spend with and teach your boy he will end up teaching his own boy the same one day because of this
You should throw these monsters back for seed so they reproduce alot of those female's could produce thousands of perch for future anglers. I started practicing catch and release a few years ago and noticed the population on the lakes I fish have come back tenfold.
