Aaron joins up with Mike Schamber to hunt down winter black crappies. They work together to drill tonnes of holes and tagteam the same ice hole to quickly sort through schools of crappie with big baits to target true trophy slabs.

@Winkiedoodles Thanks for the kind words!!! We fish for crappies during every season of the year. We have the hardest working cameraman in the industry - Nowhere else will you see as many real hooksets captured!!!! And he certainly did get in on the action throughout the day!

ive watched this video like 10 times now and love it! ... I ice fish on a property thats a family friends pond with my dad every year and we average about 15 to 18 inches and have to cut 2 holes side by side to get them slabs out ... this will be the first year i will be going without my dad because he passed away... but this video brings tears to my eyes ... it reminds me of my dad and me. but idk if i can go this year with out him and im broke and have no gear because of the cost of funeral

It's amazing what happens when people THROW FISH BACK! Here in metro MN everyone keeps 8" crappies and complains that there are no hogs. I WONDER WHY?
@Aubart
@Aubart 9 лет назад
No doubt, go down to Cedar south of Prior and check out the city they have on that tiny lake, and everyone is keeping every crappie that comes up the hole. 2 more years and that lake will be empty. Lets go fishing

Definitely hear that buddy, I'm in the north metro and the same story, a couple real producers up here just got drained when the word got out.

+crazycooterMN yea i really cant believe how many people comment that they would have eaten them, same with the big walleye videos. Trophy fish are special and low in numbers, why eat them, is there really much difference in cleaning a few more fish for the same meat, the big ones dont taste as good anyways.

Even though we don't have ice fishing here in North Carolina,these techniques are useful for me as well. Our water gets icy cold in winter. Nice to see you guys release so many whoppers. I release all large fish regardless of species,keeping a few smaller ones for the table.

Seeing slab crappies pulled out the ice like that never gets old. I'd be as if not more excited. Nice video! Can't say I've used those Lake Fork plastics even tho they have them down here at the bass pro in Chicago burbs. I like the horizontal presentation idea. thanks for sharing.

@URLYINGBRO no and yes but more leaning towards no. you gotta get to the fish so with the fish finder, you can locate and fish'em. people do the same with open water fishing. have fun out there

@lukrativ0922 Crappies, in their northern range, grow extremely slow compared to the southern states. Careful catch and release (with larger fish) is crucial to maintaining a trophy crappie fishery up here!

yes they work well, they make open water transducers you mount on the boat, check out Vexilar, Marcum, and Humminbird, they all make flashers like what you see in the vid

I agree. Besides I do see them being released all the time. Many anglers like to fish for the sport, excitement and it's so much fun. Your out in nature and challenging the fish. If I go with intentions to eat fish, I'll keep two and release the rest. Why keep so many fish? I'm not selling them, lol. So Two for me, the rest for fun.

honestly, i dont find this real fishing, its all about the hope that you get one, and when you do your happy, its not fun to know that your fish is going for your bait at the right time it does. thats just my opinion, i give you props for getting slabs but its just not my style of fishing, and everyone has their own.

I highly recommend you to not get any expencive boat with out at least a depth finder.... or hell just get a fish finder, Most fishfinders only see about 3 feet around by the sensor anyway. Fish finders only are extremely useful to find where weeds are, and the way the bottom is shaped. You can find one huge gigantic fish with a fish finder, but never catch it.
