I'm a first time player trying to look and see if the game is worth it...I tried the demo and it was pretty coo...but im just thinking if I should get it lol
Let's be honest. Are Monster Hunter games ever not masterfully crafted video games with amazing attention to detail, oozing with charm and atmosphere and class leading combat and crafting ? Every game is at least an 8 out of 10 at launch, and through continual updates and expansions ends up as 9.5 or a 10. God I love this series. Hope Rise sells like hotcakes, the devs deserve it.
It’s definitely selling like hot cakes. It’s sold out here in Vancouver, BC. Gotta wait till Monday the earliest to get it. Silly me for not pre ordering it. Wasn’t expecting it to sell out this quickly.
Also concerning online play: Don't stress out when you mess up. Some of the nicest and encouraging players I have ever met were from the Monster Hunter fandom. You also don't need to worry about whether the weapon you pick will mess with the party layout. Everybody contributes something to the hunt and everyone is grateful. And on a more personal note, just have fun. Goof around withe emotes in and out of hunts. Try out that weapon you think looks cool but your no good at. Just be yourself and happy hunting
To all new players this is my veteran tip: do not give up. This game demands you learn from failure and it rewards you for sticking through. Learn monster movement patterns, understand your weapons limitations, and make sure to take breaks in between your attacks to check what move the monster is about to use.
@@kevinc.cucumber3697 you have to be close enough for your shots to land so you need to watch the monsters patterns though but dodging is key pls theres reloading i use tge lbg theres skill involved but its easier takes more time though
@@rickycain6085 literally all you do with the bow is shoot and dodge. Very little skill involved compared to other weapons where you have to learn its moveset, positioning and timing. Thats why i use the bow cuz it easy.
Unfortunately dude alot of these new players need hand holding and games to do all the heavy lifting all the time so will try once get owned because they just spam attack then slate the game to the ground, its a game for people who can apprieciate learning moves till you master them and alot of bad players moan about a game which shoukd be held as high as dark souls and other ganes of that caliber
I don’t know, I actually liked the whole aspect of investigating and tracking monsters. It made it feel like an actual HUNT, instead of boss fight the game. Same with crafting buffs from the flora and fauna of the biomes.
Me too. Also learning more about the monster as you hunt them like their weak points and what weapons are best or worst to use. Growing your own materials was great too.
@@Contractor48 in my opinion monster hunter world is the best of the series so far, although rise might be close. The problems the older games had is that they're very hostile to the player in ways that aren't indicative of real challenge imo. For instance, if you forget to eat before a fight you have to either abandon the quest and go through 5 mins of loading and whatnot, or you're forced to finish the quest with 2/3 of ur max health. World solved this problem by allowing you to eat, change gear, and access your storage while out on the hunt. Rise continues this trend and iterates upon it. If you're a new player I say ignore the old games and start with world or rise, you'll have a more enjoyable time. People who prefer the older games are either nostalgic or elitist/purist for no objective reason. I say this having played many of the old games myself.
@@FtwXXgigady While I agree with you on some points, for me, that 'hostility' towards the player made me fall in love with the series. From PS2 to 3DS, here was a series of games that wasn't afraid of giving the players responsibilities. If you forgot to eat, that was on you, just remember to eat next time. Be aware of your quest and objective, so pack hot/cold drinks accordingly. If you can't manage those basic things, you would have a hard time fighting these big monsters, and that's good. Knowledge is key in MH, always has been. Looking up loot tables online is a bad aspect of the design, so I'm happy they changed the hunting log in world, but you have got to admit that it feels good when you know and understand your hunt, and can play well with the information you have, eventually culminating in doing no damage hunts. I'm sure Rise is an excellent game, with cool monsters and exciting battles, but starting with world, a specific type of monster hunter game was lost.
This was my first Monster Hunter game ever. I'm now 200 hours deep, swinging around like I belong on the Scouts from Attack on Titan, and I can't believe how amazing this game is. The time commitment is real (read: 200 hours), but I was pretty much able to do most of the moves I can do by the 50th hour. It's just now I'm so damn skilled at my weapon, I can go an entire monster hunt without getting hit a single time and countering and parrying everything, which is the most satisfying feeling of self-improvement when you're actually able to pull it off successfully. Sorry for the rant. TL;DR: Buy the damn game.
My first monster hunter game was monster hunter freedom unite, damn that was a good game. Mhfu and mhw are the only monster hunter games I’ve ever played. Is mh rise good too?
@@Felix-dh9tl very good. Before you play rise do yourself a major favor and play mh4 ultimate first. Its in my opinion the best monster hunter game. To date it has the largest monster roster and armor/weapons
Welcome. As someone who has been playing the series since first release on PSP, the games now have never been more accessible or rich. I live this series so much and hope you love it too. Also playing with local friends is by far the best way to play.
@@th3alley instead of being a world map the expeditions have a quest section with Hiona instead from there you can go accept any of the locals as an expedition quest and have no time limit on that quest
I literally paused NintendoLife’s review of Monster Hunter Rise when I saw this notification pop up :’) This is also my first ever Monster Hunter game and I’m LOVING IT.
Watching this for the eventual PS5 release. I’ve only ever played World, but I loved it. Happy to see this looks like more of that with a few tweaks here and there. Can’t wait!
Nope, I've played batman and doom and monster hunter is by far give the most bad ass feeling of all. Because it's not just mashing button like batman game, you need proficiency to play this game. Once you get the proficiency it just feels awesome and you just keep want to play it and feel badass
@@iamdjiamput7552 Finally, someone recognizes something good about Monster Hunter. Monster Hunter rewards you very well if you learned very well the combat system and the weaknesses of the monsters.
Die hard fan here! - The learning curve and onboarding is definitely a curse. I remember almost dropping my first MH game, and I was only able to get my friends to play World by saying, "Keep going a bit further".
Same. I dropped the PSP game as a kid back then since I feel that the combat is too slow, tedious and so many systems to learn. I tried diving in the 3ds version and decided to learn the game for real only did I got into the core gameplay loop and became a fan of the series
I learned by watching my brother play on the MHTri, he had played the PSP versions before, I devoured MHTri. I love how the experience from those games translates to the new ones, I already have several hours on MHRise and only stopped for eating, working and sleeping lol.
This is my first monster hunter game, i was hesitant at first to pre order since its quite expensive, plus its a gamble since i never played the game before so i might regret it, i have to say right now ive lost so much sleep playing this, its so addictive
I've played through the demo a few times, and I'm definitely getting this. I just love it. The, fluidity perhaps, of the combat is so satisfying. And the armor, weapons, pretty much everything looks awesome.
If you are new to the Monster Hunter series. Let me tell you, the learning curve can be rough, but it is VERY worth it if this is the kind of game you think you can be into. I still remember my first MH experience many years ago on a Nintendo DS. I had a random run in with the game on the PlayStation 2, it was my friends and he was playing it when I got to his house, then nothing. Then I saw Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate when I worked at gamestop, Those earlier games were a little harder to get into, but the new ones MH:World and Rise seem to be more aware that new people are jumping in, and they do help in teaching. Just get it, I highly doubt you will be disappointed.
@@marr73 It's not for everyone, but I would say it's pretty far from boring. I mean if you were just picking fetch quests, or small monster quests maybe...
10/10. Also if you’re new to MH and are having trouble with early roadblocks, I highly recommend the Gunlance. Gives you significantly more survivability and let’s you learn the monster more. More managing health and stamina than memorizing monster attacks
As a long time fan of the series, I agree with a lot of your points you put out. Capcom has also been generous to ease the learning curve for players I mean, marking the gathering materials on the map for gathering quests is something I did not expected them to do, good on them. As some people mentioned here, it is the classic MH formula so veteran hunters will definitely love this game, even with the fancy pants magic bugs and hyperspeed dogs.
I'm a Zelda fan and didn't like the breath of wild. You can be a fan of a series and not necessarily like the newest game so nize that with the smart ass comment
Me too, i've been a fan since MH Freedom 2 and it's so fun to see it blow up in popularity with every new installment. And even with how big it's gotten, the community has always been great

what is the meaning of the words '' fookin banger '', I can't search the definition on the internet, does anyone could explain it to me, I appreciate it.
My first MH game and I've had a blast. My computer couldn't run MHW well at all. Super portable, easy to dock for the full screen experience. I took my time and learnt the combos for the switch axe. I was so afraid I'd completely wipe out like my experience in world, but gameplay was smooth and I knew my weapon enough to carry it out. I've also connected online via discord with another switch axe user, who coached me on how to use some advanced tech, and joined me on hunts. The monster telegraphing is so amazing. Few minutes into the hunt for a new monster, I could start to tell what was going to happen. Side stepping the monster as it charges me, then laying in some juicy damage, amazing. Yeah i'm just here for confirmation bias lol.
@@edgyz0mb1e yeah. And its my first MH too. So no bias. If u have to money to spend its a great reason to get one. Of course all the other games as well
@@MSDGAMEZ i heard we can emulate it on pc too, i cant buy a switch cause i recently got a PS5 but if its worth the time, i might just get it on emulator, and also which do you think is better, world or this?
This is my first real time playing a MH game (never really gave world a fair chance) and I absolutely love this! I can’t believe I’ve already played it over 10 hours! I’m playing at work on the go and at home and whenever I get online with random folks the internet is smooth and seamless. Also there’s lil things to collect in the world so that adds a layer of collect-o-thon. Really fun game I would recommend it for anyone that has a switch.
I love Monster Hunter so much. Been hunting since '09. I can name off everything I've hunted since than. I've gotten to learn my favorite monsters and in still getting owned from time to time by my favorites. Not to mention the new monsters. Such a great experience... I highly recommend this game for people that wanna do some serious anime stuff lol.
I guess you can say this is my first “new” monster Hunter game since my first was GenU which was more of a remaster or a 3ds game, but I’ve very excited to get into this 🔥
In the same boat, first game was mhgu, and I got a pc a month after the final mhw update came out. Finally getting to play a monster hunter game at launch!
I've tried so long and so hard in previous titles to get into the series, but I've often been kept away because of the steep entry. This have looks easier for me to try. I think I'll pick it up.
It's coming to PC next year for you graphics buffs, but I haven't had any stuttering issues in the graphics. Everything has been silky smooth, and I use the particle-effect heavy Charge Blade.
I've been playing for 100 hours and man, this game is so addicting! Sometimes, I don't even notice how long I've actually been playing because I'm too focused trying to get the item (*cough narga medula *cough) I need for another weapon and/or armor piece. As my " first" Monhun game (technically started with World but couldn't get into it for some reason), I am now a Monhun convert lol (btw I'm a Hunting Horn main doot doot)
iv been playing since MH 1 and honestly i am deeply enjoying this game so far, it has all the good things about world and the old games while improving on them a lot. single player felt super balanced and the lack of need to farm stuff and just gather on the go is amazing. New Monsters are so cool and the old ones got revamped too which makes for a new experience in a way. all in all a very solid game. my favorite weapon the hunting horn got a huge buff also :D Edit: almost all armors and weapons have a unique look unlike the lazy bad designs in world
if ya read this, for long sword you focus on your spirit attacks getting that last hit to get your boost (was the R1 attack in worlds), when at red boost you start doing helm breakers and go back to spirit attacks
Man…I started on Freedom Unite on PSP. We have come so far it’s insane. I’m loving having my favorite title on my OLED everywhere I go! LoneWolf Long Sword!🤘🏻❤️
Loving the new wirebug system and palamute, not to mention the new charge blade spinning axe attack, but I really miss my tanky super recovery set from world.
Appreciate the bit on the walls of text - I have been hesitant cause I could never get into world, the walls of text just didnt compute with me and I never really got a chance to learn. May give this one a shot!
@@walkerdrae no Rise is fairly different. Its more like the older Monster Hunter games. Monster Hunter world blew up because it was more accessible to players.
I've actually been considering Monster Hunter for long time, I just keep either being too busy or not having enough money. can someone who has been with the series for a while, let me know a few things (it was a great video and all, I just want to ask about a few more details) such as if each game has it's own storyline or if it is a series lore? is it possible to change weapons? how far can you go in terms of exploring? is it storyline restricted or is it free to roam? things like that. I have a few more other than that, so if someone could be willing to answer a few of my questions, that would be great.
Do you think you need a pro controller I played on pc with a Xbox controller and I found it helpful and I'm also playing on a switch lite and the on board controls just feel not great what do you think?
Pokemon legends arceus has no excuse to not look as good as this game when it comes out. Artstyle aside the level of detail in environment density and lod culling on screen should be on par at least.
Zelda botw Mario odyssey Luigis mansion 3 Fire emblem 3 houses Splatoon 2 Smash ultimate Xenoblade de Monster hunter rise Not including indies like hades and hollow knight are some of the best games for switch
one thing I'm surprised isn't brought up that often in reviews is the load time I mean I've never played a game with better load times, especially compared to world were you'd have to wait minutes for a quest to load before and after it takes seconds now to load full complex maps with monsters
I just got MHR last week and holy heck, I love it! It's my VERY FIRST entry into the Monster Hunter franchise - I played the demo of World a while back and I just couldn't get into it, I didn't give it enough of a chance. I was one of the people who said combat was "clunky", but it's not, it's just weighty, and I'm super into it. (I've also heard that Rise offers a LOT of mobility options over previous games) Anyway I'm now in my "watch tons of videos about Rise" phase, hence why I'm here :D
Hey man just a quick tip go to settings and put target camera into focus camera that way when you lock on to a monster (click in right stick) it gives it a dork souls feel great for duel blades long sword switch axe
Also the village and pub hub quests are diffrent hub monsters are automatically set to 2 player where village ones are set for solo and there are rare sword relic collectables so don't be afraid to wire bug up everything abuse that wall run my dood happy hunting
Did I miss something in the news about this game involving its availability? Target only sells it digitally, and all 4 of my GameStop locations didn't get any in their shipments. Had to order it from Amazon.
I’m still on the fence with buying this. I want to give monster hunter world another try because it didn’t leave me with a good impression in my first few hours.
it takes more than a few hours for the game to land but when it does land it lands on top of you trapping you forever with no hope of escape, considering this is a month old comment I hope you gave it a good try and have fallen in love with the game, and if not...play it more
My favorite monster is certainly not Jyuratodus, but one of my favorite moments thus far has been wildly underestimating the new and improved jyuratodus, which proved as a surprisingly resilient adversary.
Nice to see MH really opening up to more people, and appreciate some of the return to form before World. Any possible complaints I could have are moot when I think that there are more people getting to experience the series in some way. But Armored Core fans still kinda feel left behind...
This is the 5th game I've tried under the franchise, and I agree that the game becomes more complex each and every installment. But I really hope new players don't get intimidated because this is such a classic game where you will spend hours on. And personally, Rise might be my most favorite among the bunch mainly bec of portability (as what the creator mentioned as one of the perks of it being on Switch). A little heads up for old time hunters, I feel like this game is kind of easier than how I remember. Likr I used to spend hours just to craft an armor or weapon, but still end up using lots of mega potion because monster damage to armor ratio is a bit imbalanced. But in this game I rarely use packed potions. I'm still at 5s quests, died only once in battle, and I kinda miss some harder challenge.
Absolutely love this game. Only nitpick is with the locations. The only other MH games i played was generations ultimate on the switch and MH world on PC. Genu had a staggering variety of locations and while world had far far fewer, they all felt extremely unique, interesting, and packed with content. Rise's locations just feel a little.... less so? We have the limited quantity of world with a bit less of the creativity and a bit less packed with thought and content. Please dont get me wrong, I still absolutely love the game and all the maps, I just want MORE of them lol I have a feeling capcom wont disappoint with additional content though! We're getting at LEAST 4 to 5 new monsters in a month!
I played the demo and had been thinking about getting this once it released as I've been wanting to get into the series for a while but haven't got around to it. I'll definitely pick it up now though.
It’s a bit of a combination of the old monster hunters and world. I get nostalgic revisiting the old maps and being able to sling around on your bug just makes it better.
And the funny thing is that they're NOT the old maps... not exactly. But some of those places are intact. In the flooded forest, you can clearly recognize the cave where you used to be able to dive underwater where Gobul slept.
@@gamechanger8908 is this not just an option you can turn on and off in the menu? They had this in another new monster Hunter game and messed me right up until I realized I could turn it off lol

I've been playing MH since freedom Unit on psp and this is the most newcomer friendly MH game so far. Everyone should jump in to get a feel of it without being overwhelmed by a difficulty curve.
I'm at work right now, and I can't wait to go home and play this game! It's so much fun jumping around and the verticality is amazing. @@ayushsinghchauhan9558 oh that's great man! Good for you on the PS5. My girl and I recently just bought a couple of the handheld switch lights and are super happy with them. That PS5 though!
That literally just means you're buying games when they come out. Not much of a coincidence as these videos are uploaded pretty much every time there's a new major release and most of the time when they're not major but still got enough attention. It honestly surprises me that you couldn't draw that connection yourself because of course videos come out soon after the game does just like how people including yourself bought the game because it just released. It would be a different story if you randomly bought a game from last year or so and they happened to make a video about it around that time without any particular reason.
I love that Jake is mostly a solo player and new to the series just like me. I bought World more then a year ago and couldn't get into it, but I'm ready to go back and give it another shot
I just got this game after seeing the Okami DLC announcement. 2 days in and i'm absolutely hooked. Beautiful and immersive; one of the best looking games on the Switch for sure. Can't wait to play more!
Legit gonna but a switch just for this!!! Is it hard to get adapted to the joycons? The only MH game I played was world and I loved it, spent over 1000 hours in it. I want to buy this one too but I'm a little bit worried about the joycons controls, is the difference too big between it and the classic PS controller? And is it easy to get adapted to playing with it?
might get the game although i’m a bit late. i really want to get it but i’ve got used to the world graphics and the graphics look a bit.. meh to me, should i get it?
Yeah, I know it looks a lot softer/smoother graphically and the UI really bothered me when I started (it’s huge). However, coming back to it after some time, I don’t really notice it anymore.
Yeah the learning curve is kinda rough. I didn't have a problem with it when I started in world. My friend, on the other hand, couldn't get into it because it made his head hurt trying to remember what to prepare before the hunt and learning the monster also troubled him. He also had a hard time dodging. So he told me the game was too difficult.
Doesn't matter if Rise is on a lower framerate. Granted, a higher framerate can help some with dodging but it isn't a bad idea to adapt to a lower framerate also. Either way, I can't wait for my copy to arrive and hope to have fun with it.
Buying it for my son's 9th birthday but might buy it for myself, bestie and wife too. When we were in our late teens and early 20s we sunk hundreds of hours into Monster Hunter on psp.
