Monster Hunter is the most consistently great series of games of all time! Just play the new one that just came out! Go play it! Bother me on Twitter: / hypercharge_sam
I can imagine Sam making an analysis that is over an hour long going into extreme detail about every design flaw with this game and I would totally eat that up!! Unfortunately, I think that Sam said on his Twitter that he had no plans to make a review on it. I mean, it’s sad and all, but let’s be honest here, we probably know all the problems with the game.
I've tried a couple demos on the 3DS back in the day and I could never figure out what to do, so I never bothered with the series even though it's definitely up my alley. I think this overview swayed me into picking up the latest one.
This was basically my experience with the Wii U version, so your definitely not the only one who's felt that before. You kind of have to stick with it for a while to figure things out.
@@mooster4080 There's single player story missions and multiplayer missions which are more difficult, but it's pretty easy to do the multiplayer missions by yourself. You have a dog companion and a cat companion which also attack the monster and distract the Monster to give you chances to heal and when 2 or more human players are in the party, you only get to bring one of your companions. So the game is designed in such a way that you could do everything by yourself if you wanted to. Having a super good team isn't entirely necessary, but you mainly just don't want to have people who end up dying too much and ending the quest. If you're running into super incompetent people online, the health scaling on the multiplayer fights is not that big of a difference that you couldn't just do it yourself. Having a really good team who are good will usually just help you complete the fight faster. That's about it.
I don’t know if I’d say that. I know people who’ve played “real” video games before and they couldn’t beat Pikmin 1 because of the tension the 30 day time limit creates.
0:55 Deer used to be able to do a lot. Hunters used to pretty routinely get mauled by deer. Those things would tear you up worse than most carnivores. There's a reason they started using those tree stands and scent supressors. Circa 200 years ago folks would be doing that with a musket and if they missed their one and only shot (and still sometimes if they didn't miss) the deer would come up and maul them and the hunter would either have to flee or fight it to the death with a bladed weapon. It wasn't the pussy shit you see nowadays where it's a bunch of wannabe rambos who don't even carry the whole deer back to camp and gut it where it dies so they can get rid of its less tasteful bits and make it weigh less.
This video helped me get MH:R. Great game! Definitely glad I tried MH again. Their tutorials though are like a linux manual for something as simple as turning on a lamp.
Glad to see you finally come back. Now I want to see you cover PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale, the Vs. Capcom series, or the Marvel Ultimate Alliance trilogy.
when I watched this I felt really motivated to give it a try. I owned world and 3U for a long time but they didn’t click to me, I just collected them and see if would try them because I heard good things about it. But it wasn’t until I got the latest game rise where it clicked for me. And it all is history after, I have 120 hours in rise and sunbreak. And I collected all the games that were released in the US, plus the amiibos. And I adore this franchise so much, it’s just such a blast. I been trying to get my friends to get into it because I do feel like this can be a game anyone can pick up and play.
There are only two types of people. Those that are addicted to Monster Hunter, and those that have never played Monster Hunter. Honestly it's also the _only_ multiplayer game that I've ever liked, but I still enjoy playing solo more in MH, I just don't hate the mp.
Literally perfect. Nothing I can btich and cry about. Love glave and hammer. Mostly a great sword main. But still one of my greatest mains. But we have one important question. Favorite monsters?
Hey, you finally made that Monster Hunter video you talked about in the DS/U critique lol I’ve been trying to get into Monster Hunter using World since I have Game Pass, but I’ve found the combat to be kind of boring at times. Just simply dodging and then using a basic attack and then repeating that until the monster is dead felt kind of boring, so I was wondering if you have any tips to make the game a bit more interesting. Would finding a weapon with some flashy combos like something I’d see out of a Platinum game probably be my best option? (Didn’t know combos were a thing in MH before watching this video)
At this point, every weapon has some flashy shit they can do but in general I would say the Switch Axe, Long Sword or Charge Blade should have something that you are looking for. They all have pretty cool moves and pretty intricate mechanics to learn and master. And one thing, since I am also a huge Platinum and DMC fan, try not to expect the same style of gameplay with all the jump cancels and dodge-offsets that these games have. Monster Hunter is more about the grind and refining your build rather than pure action. Get engrossed in the world and atmosphere (MHW does the best job with this imo) and if all that doesn't appeal to you, maybe refrain from upgrading your armor so the monsters hit a bit harder and to make the hunts feel less boring. They will get tougher though, don't you worry about that, especially some of the endgame fights.
@@shadowpheonix1751 The older games are much more simple, but Monster Hunter World added a lot of flashy attacks to each weapon. Monster Hunter Rise has the same mechanics as World, but the new wirebugs make the pace of the game much faster, sort of like the same difference of gamespeed like Bloodborne/Dark Souls.
@@HyperCharge good to know. Thanks to the first reply, I tried out the long sword in the rise demo and it was probably my favorite weapon so far. It was pretty easy to get to grips with, trying to land all the spirit hits to change the blade color was pretty engaging and it even had a counterattack which I really liked. I fought the great Izuchi 3 times with it and the third time I was just beating his ass so hard and it was awesome. Please tell me the rest of this game (or World since that’s the only one I have the full game for) is like that
@@shadowpheonix1751 Yes, that's pretty much the whole game. There's a handful of gimmicky missions, but like 98% of the game is doing missions like fighting Izuchi, but with other Monsters. I'm pretty sure World has the same mechanics as Rise with the Longsword, besides the wirebug mechanics.
All those menus and reading and kinsects or whatever still looks pretty daunting. I might try it if it is really that good though. ok now i've seen the owl i have to get it
@@HyperCharge Based on the description, it definitely seems like my kind of game. I tend to prefer classic turn-based RPGs, so I might just wanna try out MH Stories.
