This came out at 2:00 in the morning for me. I immediately checked to see if you had made a video reacting to the weapon showcase. In my world, this weapon, and you go hand-in-hand. We need a Ruri's Gunlance event Quest.
I love how Capcom started with Greatsword, so everyone assumed they'd be going down the list of weapons in their usual display order. "Ah, so Longsword's next, then SnS , right?" Then Capcom just came out and said "Fuck it. Heavy Bowgun by itself, no Light Bowgun. Insect Glaive. _Gunlance."_ It's like they're intentionally being as out of pocket as possible. Who wants to place bets on Hunting Horn being next?
Joke's on you, the ig vid should have been longer then. Unless they are truly erasing areal from the game. In World the absolute worst dps regardless of build, excluding deliberately using shit ammo like level 1 on a gun, was areal IG. Seriously, showing one areal combo would have only cost them like 5 seconds so why the fuck not when they spent way too much time reminding us that this is assist type kinsects again?
Nah nah nah, this was planned by Capcom. They knew how important this video was, so they made sure to release it when there was nothing to distract from it.
Finally, someone pointed out that the sound design of the game from the current reveals are phenomenal. I've been talking about this to my friends and they didn't notice it at first, something just felt "a bit different". When they realised it, it was the sound. The hits of the weapon, the slams of the monster, everything just feels OOMF. So good!
I know, right? I really tried to love Rise and Sunbreak but I couldn't stand the sound efects, like the weightless hit of the longsword or the "ping" when you block with the shields. The sound effects on this game are awesome!
I love that they’ve brought over so many Frontier gunlance moves :) I am very happy Btw, 6:26 the shelling-steps were in Frontier and iirc Earth, Heaven, and Storm style had it. However, they had to be done after a hop. They also didn’t consume sharpness or ammo. 7:11 The forward horizontal slash followed by the full burst is also a move from Frontier. Normal, Long, and Wide each had a different full burst follow-up as well. The one shown in this demonstration looks similar to the Long ammo follow-up, where the hunter performs a full burst without slamming.
I’m fairly certain the thing at 16:31 is a Clash like the Great Sword and HBG had, difference being Chatacabra is trying to body press you whereas Doshaguma tries to bite you. I feel like if the Gunlance was fighting a Doshaguma they’d shove the shield in the mouth and then blast the side of their face Notably Insect Glaive didn’t show a Clash because it doesn’t have a Guard which is mentioned on the website, “Cannot Guard”
Hyup, that's my read. They haven't gone into the specific mechanics of the Clash yet, so I think you're probably on point with that interpretation. Potentially they knew that GS clash animation would be some phenomenal trailer bait, but in play it's pretty samey across the board, just a cool thing that happens sometimes.
@@Taurusus It gives shielded weapons more to do since weapons without Guards tend to be running around a whole bunch whereas the big heavy slow tanks can really feel like absolute walls in battle which I think is a good contrast
I love how they’ve done the weapons so far. It seems that we get all of the flashiness of rise but we get the deliberateness and the slower speed of older games
the comment on sound is on point. In all the trailers so far this is the thing that impress me the most. All the sounds feels so satisfying and crisp. From the monster grunts to explosions they seem to really have put a big emphasis on sound design in this game
The reason this is so hype is that the moveset actually feels like the devs played the weapon and figured out what would fit into the new game with it. Only good decisions were made. GL is known for meatier, heavier slams than regular lance's pokes, so they leaned into that with those up/down full burst slaps. Of course shelling has recoil, so why couldn't the recoil propel you sideways as a dodge? The focus mode attack is for targeting weak spots, but shells ignore weak spots, so instead of using some kind of shelling attack that would feel disjointed with the game's design, they used the non-shelling part of your Wyrmstake that still cares about hitzones as a basis for the focus mode move. Smart design all around, and the best part is that the weapon doesn't seem to have any extra maintenance like Iceborne, Rise, and Sunbreak gave it. GL might seriously go from one of my least played weapons to one of my most played if this keeps up.
I also really love how they leaned more into the lance aspect of the weapon with all the defensive buffs and options they gave it. It now has a counter, better sidesteps, and guard points; it's awesome! Seems like both evade and guard gunlancing will probably be viable in Wilds!
right?? that sidestep shell is my highlight honestly. If we hit by recoil anyway why don't we have move that sidestep us with shelling??? And also I like how now there's more way for us to shell, not the usual poke poke shell anymore. That aerial shell also fun, and that double full-burst-to-wyrmstake is gamechanger for big buck damage at small amount of time.
After I watched the Gunlance video, I immediately thought of you, lol. I stopped playing Monster Hunter games quite a while ago, and I also stopped following MH content on RU-vid since then. Just now, when I clicked on this video and heard you say "Shields up, Ironbreakers!", I got chills. It reminded me of the days when I used to watch tons of RU-vid videos about tips and tricks, builds, guides, and speed runs. In that one moment, hearing you say that, I felt like I relived all those experiences. It was an amazing feeling, and I'm really looking forward to Wild and your videos about it. Thank you so much!
For once I’m also looking forward to seeing the Lance, surely they must be as fun as gunlance. Let us unite as lancers and show the others what we’re made of!
@@grubbyarmadillo9863 I have a feeling it's going to be a lot more brutal in its usage given how visceral the clutch-claw counter was in World, and how the other weapons are shaping up. Super excited to see it! Really hope they give us some stronger options for counters, like a big hit and multi-hit option, respectively.
Gunlance is looking absolutely amazing this time around and as a fellow ingot armor enjoyer that armor set looks incredible with these new graphics, so shiny.
1:27 Ruri: Time is valuable... Ruri: uses one of the slowest and lowest overall dps weapons in the game... Gunlance: takes the most time to explain because it's a rework... Ruri: happier than any child on Christmas... At least its an amazing tanker in World, but now it looks like a phenomenal weapon in Wilds. No longer is it just a run, poke, boom weapon, but an absolute meat grinder. While I never touched GL, I'm happy Ruri's main gets the rework it deserves. Edit: auto-correct messed some words up
I fell in love with the gunlance in World. In previous MH games I was almost exclusively a LS main. MHW was the first time I said, "screw it I'm gonna go out of my comfort zone." When the beta's for the game came out, I took that time to learn how to play all the different weapons. Gunlance was my first new main weapon, and since then I've never gone back to LS. I would pick up SnS about mid way through base world as well and that became my new main weapon. Then I learned Hunting Horn, then Hammer. I now know how to play all the weapons. And can say that I have mastered SnS, and can play HH, IG, hammer, and GL to an advanced level. But gunlance was my first exploration. It popped my MH cherry and led me to become a top tier hunter. This looks like it might be the best Gunlance has ever been. I am stoked to return to this weapon.
When i saw the trailer on the MH channel i figured Ruri would be very happy, and that smirk at the start says it all. Now i hope us Charge Blade mains will eat just as well.
A couple of things that Ruri didn’t mention for Gunlance (sacrilege, I know): The maximum charge of the presumed Charged Shell has a massive recoil animation. This precludes repeated use of the same move in the same position, but also moves your character back significantly, so it can also be used to evade a counterattack. When the hunter crouch-blocks and the shield glows white, there’s a ping sound and she links it directly into a Slam attack, which presumably links into a Full Burst. This sort of block doesn’t exist in Iceborne and Sunbreak.
The moment GL trailer dropped, I was immediately waiting for you to chime in. Sidenote: I love how many replies on twitter(currently known as x) that where just about how you where gonna eat this up lol.
Im really excited by the sound design in these past few weapon showcases and i can not wait to hear what a swinging the Hammer will sound like in this game.
To me Gunlance has always felt more like Lance with the option of a Gun... Now it is starting to truly feel likes it own weapon with the shelling combos making it even more distinct from the Lance. Loving the new upwards full barage which will be great against aerial monsters like Rathalos :)
@@Owl-yc2yu I'm almost certain that lance will have some absolutely brutal moves this time around. This is the same team that designed the clutch claw counter, and all the weapons seem to be leaning into wildly (heh, get it?) brutal movesets for this game. Super excited to see what they cooked for it! For all we know, it might have the best clash attack in the game or something, both in terms of damage and visuals.
@@energyvanquish I truly hope it has at least one, even if it's exclusive to focus mode or something. I also really hope it has a true counter like longsword where it can counter anything regardless of guard level
i just love how they incorporated the evade lance playstyle as part of the gunlances gameplay and being able to do an upswing aerial fullburst after it is just icing on cake
YOOOO FRONTIER GUNLANCE BLAST SWEEP AND BLAST DASH EVADES?! FINALLY! Frontier gunlance was simply phenomenal! So hoping that we get elemental shelling like in frontier.
Hi! Switch axe user here, when they do a weapon overview of my beloved weapon I will be either jumping in joy or staring in wonder about how to utilize any new combos.
I love GL, but what makes the weapon clunky is not the moveset or the design, but the weapons. Capcom makes 3 types of shelling, and 99% of the time, only one is good. Also, there is like 2 GL that can get to the max level of said shelling, making me feel like having "the illusion of choice". Many weapons have a lot more viable choices, and GL feels much more limited.
there are quite a few viable options with all the shelling types. You need to understand that people saying something is viable or not online are just people, they are not the developers giving a breakdown of every possible weapon and circumstance with factual information. most of the time something gets deemed 'bad' it's because it does less damage in an area, but it's always in a vacuum scenario, and doesn't mean it is actually bad either, for example wide has the worst fullburst damage but excels while the monster is moving around with no commitment with high shell damage. the damage you lose is made up for in uptime. not using element or status is because theres a vocal monitor circle jerk of the anit slaplance community who refuse to use the rest of the moveset unless it leads to shelling (fullburst loops) just to spite endgame build meta leading to slaplance only. it's poke and rising slashes benefit a lot from element, way more than lance did in world cause of an element penalty it had. In world the real issue was that raw was meta for most weapons regardless of the class, cause of the title updates adding weapons that outclassed previous ones, the 'limted selection of gunlances' as you put it applied to most weapons cause of how skills worked and the title updates. im not only avoiding the great girros gl cause of shelling level, im using frostfang's cause it's way stronger and better sharpness and affinity. if I'm getting faster kills with a safi normal using it's whole moveset than I was with long charged spam then clearly viability is not the issue here. (before fatalis gl of course cause that thing is broken)
"That was the charged shell from the star-YOU CAN MOVE WHILE CHARGING SHELLS !... are they blocking while they're... oh my god..." Normal reaction to the hunter using 100% of their brain when using a gunlance for the first time in the entire franchise
I've mained gunlance in a few games, but I mostly transferred over to horn for world and rise. If we can freely swap weapons like they've shown with our lil raptor riders, I'm absolutely going to love life. Bringing my two favorite weapons of the series along at once would be a dream, and I can't wait to see the horn update with how amazing this looks. We're eating good today folks.
your energy and excitement at the new moves is very contagious, I watched the official video before your reaction so I knew it would be enthusiastic haha.
Super hyped for this!! Also, absolutely loved your initial reaction to all the new stuff! Like a kid in a candy store being given a massive bag and being told to fill it with whatever they want, haha.
So GL has a counter, extra mobility and a drill attack......i am scared to see the lance trailer, cause i fear it will get done dirty and at that point why even bother playing lance anymore. Happy for my GL players out there but boy am i pessimistic for lance Also Rurikhan i think the last part was a clash.....you know holding the monster in it's place like GS and HBG did
OMG!!! I'm so happy to see new MH content. Can't wait to see Lance as well. Love ya, Ruri, and happy to see how happy you are when you're making these videos.
Ruri, I’ve been a gunlance main since world, and I have always admired you since I first watched your videos trying to learn to use different weapons before coming to my precious baby GL. Truly, this has been such a shot of dopamine I feel like I want to dance in place and run a victory lap around the house. So excited ima burst like a firecracker! This was greater than getting any monster intro, or getting a monster I want to see return do I can fight it for myself. I’m so pumped!
Man, it is so nice to see a Monster Hunter veteran (and also the biggest Gunlance finatic in the community) react to this video. I've seen other reactions, but most of them are people that got introduced through World/Rise, so they don't understand the sheer scope and significance of just how much love they gave the gunlance in this preview. It's so wholesome 🥰
I adore that halfway through the first viewing, you completely forget to read the subtitles out loud and just give in to complete glee and excitement. As soon as I saw they posted this, I was waiting for this video lol
Not sure if you noticed but second time we see charged shells it ticks FIVE times rather than three. People online are speculating that rather than traditional charge levels this is actually loading multiple shells at once, which - in turn - could signal removal of shelling types in favor of unified shelling.
Out of all the weapon overviews so far, the gunlance was clearly the most different / most changed. That’s super exciting and inspires hope that other weapons may have unique changes. Also, everyone talking about the drill, did you see like the second to last attack is some sort of flamethrower slice?!
MH games have something for everyone. It's some great stuff! I went into MH: World & Iceborne blind, and the gameplay blew my mind...I've been a fan ever since. Takes a minute to learn how to play, but the time invested is worth it, in my opinion. Take your time, just have fun with it. I've found online MH communities are pretty welcoming (and helpful) to new players too.
Capcom straight up looked at Gunlance and said, "lets give it Charge Blade styled guard points, Long Sword styled side step attacks, AND add a dash of GU Valor mode attacks." This weapon is about to go crazy in Wilds.
I want you to know, you inspired me to become a Gunlance main. Thank you sir. With that said holy crap all of these weapon reveals look so good. Focus mode attacks look crazy. It’s kinda like wirebug attacks without wirebugs which makes me very happy.
I raised 75k and Christina Ann Tucker is to be thanked.
