MONSTER MODE ACTIVATED! MTL XC8T Clearing On A Cattle Ranch!

First job with the MTL XC8T! This thing is a literal MONSTER brush cutter. The power that the heavy, round, double flywheel and blades create is insane and goes through large material very easily and the extra carbide teeth leave a very nice mulched finish. Very impressed overall! Also some bonus footage, the client got his Kubota farm tractor stuck so we pulled him out with the John Deere 329E!

You could tell that the MTL XC8T processes materials faster that the XCT. Definitely a step up. Great video of the job.
@idigit4967
@idigit4967 3 года назад
Yeah its definitely does. It spins slower but maintains spin much better when contacting material than the XCT because of all the weight. All the extra mulching teeth make it much more efficient at processing the material. I also noticed (and I forgot to mention this in the vid) is that because it spins slower it is much quieter so I have a little bit harder time knowing when its back up to full speed. On the XCT it spins so fast and loud you can easily hear it and know when its back up to speed. Just something I've got to get used to but definitely not a problem.

Is there anything that can be done to either the cutter or the skidsteer that will make the cutter head spin faster? It seems like in the smaller thicker stuff you need the cutter spinning really fast to keep it from bogging down. I follow you on the idea of it moving slower helps cut larger diameter stuff but I think I'd want the speed to get through the thicker brush. If you're happy that's what matters because you bought and own the cutters not me. 👍

do not think the machine went at full throttle, these must be run at full throttle
@idigit4967
@idigit4967 3 года назад
No, the motor is a high torque motor that is optimized for power to be able to turn all the weight that the flywheel has. If you gave it more speed it would take forever to get up to speed or recover after cutting something. It would be like a car trying to take off from a dead stop in 12th gear with a transmission that has 12 gears. High speed yes but no low end power to get you up to speed.

Definitely LIKE Your Lifting Brush Cutter UP and then Cutting Down Brush while still attached to Ground = To me this appears FAR Superior Method Than pushing over Brush .. then mulch up on Ground Would a Rotary Mulching Head work Better at Ground Level ? ..
@idigit4967
@idigit4967 3 года назад
A rotary mulching head would not necessarily work better at ground level for this size material. For bigger material, like 7" and up yes.
@wpog8453
@wpog8453 3 года назад
Rotary cutters operate at peak efficiency in any material when driving straight into the material. You also get your best finish when you keep the deck as close to ground as possible only lifting enough to allow clumps to be pulled into the deck. The more material that you contain under the deck at one time, the more contact you get with material which leaves a finer product. Same concept as a mulching kit on a commercial lawn mower. Baffles build up and contain material so that it can be processed several times before leaving the deck. The only time that pan caking is necessary is for cutting vines. Otherwise it's much less efficient and hard on the output shaft because you are side loading the blades when you drop it. Everytime you hear the blades clanking on material as it lowers, that's power that you're consuming with little returns. Nice video though.

can i ask what you make an hour for cutting this high stuff?
@williambryant5946
@williambryant5946 3 года назад
Guess you can ask but don't think he's going to answer that. The price he charges by the hour is not something he's gonna just throw out on here I don't think. You might be a competitor in his area looking to beat his prices and take work away from him. Not saying you are but that's how he has to look at it. I'd imagine he probably gets between $75 to $125 an hour or he looks at the job to come up with a single price he'll do it for by guessing how many hours it will take and what he has to have by the hour to be profitable. So it's two ways of pricing by the hour or by the job which he has to figure how many hours it will take altogether which is harder to price that way because you can be too high and not get the job or be too low and screw yourself. It's better to work by the hour in some situations and better to give a set price in others.

It does mulch down to ground level and you can cut stumps below ground by dropping the nose of the cutter and driving the front end down into the ground. Sure. For bush hogging I typically price by the acre. For heavy brush cutting I typically price by the hour and sometimes I'll give "not to exceed", so for instance I might say for a job its $xxx per hour and I'll do the job with a not to exceed total of let's say, $2,500. I typically do this for medium sized jobs where I don't know exactly how long it will take but I can give the customer a number to know that no matter how long it takes even tho I am charging by the hour they won't be getting a bill with a price they weren't expecting.

@@idigit4967 Thanks! Mind if I ask how much an acre goes for in your area? I see a wide range of skid steer pricing in my area. Anywhere from $500-900/day for machine+operator (more for mulching). I don't think the guys on the low end are paying taxes though...

800 to 900 a day is rent cost for a smaller skid steer around here not counting the cost for the mulcher if you could even get one. I would think your seriously loosing money at that price.

I don't know what to tell you Donald, I did what the owner wanted, he was happy with the end result so that's that I guess.
