Hi Fronds! Hope your planties are being good companions. More than ever I am happy that I started this very obsessive hobby. How's your monstera deliciosa doing? Is it drooping? Are the leaves curling? Are you getting yellowing leaves? In this video I share with you why I think this happens and what you can do if your monstera is looking sad. As always, feel free to ask me any questions in the comments as I love hearing from you guys!

A good over-watering sign to look for, before the leaves turn yellow or curl, is water dripping from the leaves, known as transpiration. If a pot has few drainage holes, I recommend putting a layer of rocks in the bottom first. Small-medium sized rocks (bigger than that gravel you mixed into your soil). In addition to helping water drain out, the rocks also help keep the soil in. You'll find a good layer of rocks in just about all of my potted plants.

I usual will turn a small plastic pot upside down so there is a big enough drainage area and keeps the hole from clogging up

If your monstera deliciosa's leaves are drooping/curling/yellowing, these are all signs of stress but to identify the cause you need to do some investigating and look into the past to find the cause. Overwatering, underwatering and too much light too fast are common causes. 💚💚

Repotting will stress it as well? Mine was doing fune until I repotted it 2 weeks ago and the bottom leaves have been yellowing. The roots were fine when I repotted it. I hope it is just stress.

Great video! I have 4 Monsteras and in my limited experience, their leaves can become drooping when their roots don't get to dry out enough (and lack of sunlight). The roots like to stay dry. I tend to water less (once a week) but with higher volumes. They also seem to light some air movement as the leaves get very strong when they are by a vent.

I just saved one of these beautiful plants from my cousin. He said he turned the heater on because it was cold in the house. She has browning and dead leaves. How can I bring her back? I'm in California and it's pretty cold at night. Getting to a high of 69 F in the day. My living room has plenty of light areas.

Did you trim any of the soil roots? I find that this helps as Marina suggests because the soil roots can rot when you transfer it into leca. whenever you convert a plant it will always have a transition stage. hang in there!

I have two monsteras. Both are on the exact same shelf, receive basically the same sunlight, watering and fertilizing are both the same. The only difference is that I bought them from different places and the one I bought first has always been a bit weaker than its counterpart. Also when I bought the first one, I had to report as it was root bound. About a week ago I noticed that the smaller one has really started drooping with one small yellowing leaf but most importantly droopy stems and curling leaves. It grew many new leaves in the summer but now there's one leaf which still hasn't opened up after several weeks. It's clearly stressed out but I'm not sure what the cause is because as I said, it gets the same watering, sunlight and feeding as the other and the other is doing amazing. I want to repot but autumn is here and I don't know if repotting in autumn is wise

I think larger aeroid plants put more roots out sideways because they are looking to anchor themselves, for another tree's roots to grab onto.

you can repot and tie it so something. without loosening the rot ball I am not sure much can be done other then cutting it at the node to propagate

I have 3 monstera, one in an east window, one in a southern window, and the third in a north window. The south one is doing the best; I keep the blinds down but slanted half way open (more like this " / " than this " -- " ). He's a cutting from the east window and he is growing big and producing perfect swiss cheese leaves. East window plant I've had for almost 4 years now. She does fairly well but we struggle to get her enough light; the blinds are up during the day but the next apartment building keeps her from getting the full length of the morning sun. She produces the occasional split leaf. Her leaves are on the smaller side but she keeps going. I actually gave her a big hair cut a few weeks ago so that should help. I also admit that she is probably WAY over due for a bigger pot 😬 (she's been in her current pot since I got her and it's not a very big pot) The North window monstera is..... still alive 😅😬 Actually, I only bought the north window plant after nearly killing the East window plant with a well meaning but ignorant move out on the south facing lanai. I bought the replacement plant online and it ended up being WAY bigger than I anticipated (and not suitable for the east window location) and thus is ended up in it's current location. Now what you don't know about me, is that I am a plant over-waterer. That's right, I love them to death. That's how I lost 90% of the northern window plant. I was giving it more water than it would need in ideal light conditions, let alone low light conditions. Then my new kitten came arrived and took out half of what little was left. What's left is a very viney plant trying to reach the light. I've added some small baby leaf cuttings and adjusted where the curtain opens, and I only give it a little water like once a month. So hopefully it will only get batter. admittedly it would probably do a lot better if I moved it to the center of it's window and opened the curtains when the sun gets up but you know, room aesthetics and personal sleep are equally important to me as my plants are 😉 All 3 got quasi-regular-daily water spritzes through out this winter season.

agree with the southern light. my south facing room has a monstera in the back corner, so no direct sunlight but south facing warmth and type of light and is growing fast up the wall and is very happy.

My experience is that the roots grow around the soil like that and stays hollow on the inside when the soil is mostly coco coir or moss peat and those types of soil instead of just normal dirt. I usually just use dirt (potting dirt) because that's what I can easily buy here but most often, when I buy plants, they come with that other type of soil. (I am not a native English speaker so the words might be mixed up, but hopefully you understand)

Hi. I've bought a baby monstera last month. It started yellowing the bottom leaf & I figured it out it was overwatered so repot it and cut some rotted roots as well. It was quite good but no sign of growth and last week it stared yellowing and browing again. I don't want to repot but I have to :( so I again did the repotting and found that I've left some ariel roots there which were rotted. I again cut the ariel roots and wash the roots with hydrogen peroxide mixed with water and air dried the plant for 24 hrs which made the leaves wilt I guess! And repot it again after 24 hrs. It's been 4 days but the leaves are still wilt and the yellowing of the leaves are still continuing. So my baby plant has been a lot through in a month.. Any suggestions? Will it be okay after few days as I air dried the roots in an open air so that no fungus can grow further?
@BotanicalWoman
@BotanicalWoman 4 года назад
sounds like your plant is stressed. whenever you change its environment its going to take some time for it to adjust. as long as you put enough perlite or other draining materials into your soil mix, the plant will slowly recover. even though my plant has started to put out new growth, the older leaves are still droopy. it make take months at this rate before it recovers 100% or never. sometimes once the damage is done, there isn't much you can do about it. letting it dry out a bit should be fine. if anything you can always taking cuttings and propagate a new plant. 💚💚💚

The leaves on my Monstera were dripping, so I stopped watering it as much because it's been humid. Now the leaves are starting to curl even though the soil is wet. It's been a cloudy few days. Is it underwatered or needs more sunlight?

My monstera is droopy and curly... Today I've looked her roots and they're okay. The soil was pretty dry so I've watered him. BUT the thing is, everytime I water him (once a week), a lot of water comes out from the bottom, so I dont give him that many water... But then, droopy leaves come and I dont know what to do😂
@BotanicalWoman
@BotanicalWoman 3 года назад
when was the last time you repotted it? sounds like either you have a very well draining medium which means you need to water deeper or your plant is crazy pot bound which is why it can't get any water. I would pull it out of it's pot and check the soil. sometimes peat gets old and becomes really compacted to the point where no water can be absorbed. good luck

@@BotanicalWoman and yesterday when I looked at her roots, there were many roots, at the bottom mostly, but not thaaaat many... I've seen monsteras with more rootbound... And the soil didnt seem suuper compact either... I dont know

@BotanicalWoman
@BotanicalWoman 4 года назад
not sure why you think it doesn't have drainage holes...
@withloveleli
@withloveleli 4 года назад
Botanical Woman i think its the fact that it only has 1 drainage hole and its super tiny. Thats what this person means as well as a ceramic pot. Def will hold more water then it should even adding more perlite or orchid bark etc. i put mine in a nursery pot that had around 8 holes but i made some new ones and bigger ones because i want well drainage for my monstera. I dont want to kill him. Then i put it inside a decorative pot. Its really a seagrass basket with a plastic lining to catch the water if u decide to water it as its inside. So yeah, its just that 1 drainage hole and that size isn’t really best for it. Pots with holes like that i use for succulents or cacti. Seeing i just spray them and wont over water those so they dont need a big drainage hole. How is it doing? Is drainage easily coming out of the hole?
