Man, thanks for the memory! I drove my motorcycle in the rain from Kaiserslautern to get there and see the concert!! What a concert! I remember the HUGE stage that had the outline of the scorpion on it, and the Scorpions being a German band coming home to play, the crowd went crazy! I was also amazed at Jake E Lee, Ozzy’s guitarist. I never saw someone play guitar live like him! He was a true talent!!! Thanks for posting this. 33 years ago... I am getting old!
We drove up from Ramstein. I remember MSG cutting short their set because of the rain, and Def Leppard coming out early to save the day. Fuck the rain!!! Fuck the rain!!! What a day.
I had the luck to be there, as I was in Germany at that time and so I learned about the festival (such things were not announced in Greece at that time, as information was poor). My first big festival, with 45.000 people. Because of the rain I had to be steady for 12 hours, as you could not sit down! Warlock was nothing special (they started at 11:55 instead of 12:00), except from Doro, Bon Jovi were a real surprise, before being well known, MSG had a lot of trouble with the rain (water in the equipment, as the promoter had not covered it) and had a lot of breaks, Def Leppard were good, with the drummer Rick Allen playing for the first time with one hand, because of the accident where he lost his arm, but showing really no problem replacing the arm with his leg playing its parts (!), Ozzy was great with his madness and a very good band (Jake E. Lee, Phil Soussan, Tommy Aldridge) and Scorpions, playing in their country, were an outstanding show. Nice memories.
I was there with my good friend Tony Dingman. Took the S Bahn from Frankfurt while assigned to HHC V Corps at Gibbs Kasern. That concert was awsome from Start to Finish. Genisis was there as well.
I had a drug test the next day. And all the drug tests bottles exploded a day after that, being transported in an unpressurized cargo compartment on a C-130 to the near drug testing facility. 😎, LOL Such is the history of that concert.
I was there! My brother, friends and I from Bad Kreuznach American High School! The Scorpions played the exact same set as on World Wide Live. I knew the track list like the back of my hand; my friends asked me what song would be next.B) We also saw Deep Purple at this same venue during their Perfect Strangers tour.
@@timbowden1680 Now that, was a cool Concert as well . Deep Purple at Pforzheim? Dio singing "Sunset Superman" at sunset ? 😎 That was brought the whole show to equilibrium. Before DP showed up. Was a great show. I sedated enough of the crowd with the help of a good hash cone and Jack Daniels to resolve much of pushing/crowd crush ,with the help of "Thor". Some big blonde haired dude that was in the "pit" crowd. He was a foot taller than the rest of the crowd. I am still amazed that the 1st cone of hash , I fired it up and gave a hit to my friends , then I gave to away to some smiling dude behind me who asked for a hit , and I saw my joint was passed up to about 12 rows away from me (this was all with the crowd push at that time) , and I figured it was gone. (this was a concert with 40K IIRC) Then about 5-10 minutes later I got tapped on the shoulder and my hash cone joint was handed back to me with a few hits left . LOL Glorious Cool ass concert , no doubt.😎
The lakes a couple miles north of Sullivan Barracks sure were cool. You might remember a blonde goddess playing volleyball topless at the lake , and also dancing all the time at that big bar/disco in Kafertal. She was CID. LOL😎
Warlock and Ratt could not play in the rain. Def Leppard came out in the pouring rain, and the first thing Chris Elliot did was raise a "middle finger" and said "fuck the rain" . TYhey jammed through their 1st song , and by the end of their second song it had stopped raining. *This was the last time before their drummer lost his arm and the 1st time the played live since Pyromania) They blew the rain away making it safe for Iron Maiden and the main band The Scorps , to play in their hometown, 😎 Was a great concert, and I was there. I can see myself in the Def Leppard photo on their next album sleeve(Hysteria). Along with many friends and girlfriends scattered in that photo, with all the rain on stage. They were blazing when they came out in pouring rain. It was truly "unreal" and great/gorgeous. 😎
@@jamiewiden9237 You might be . You are correct. Aug 86 was when the drummer started replaying after he lost his arm in 1984 . This concert in Mannheim was in Aug 86 . It was close to the first time after the drummer lost his arm. It was so cool to see them again after 3 years. I saw the Pyromania tour in May of 83, in Biloxi, Ms. So perhaps my memory is colored by that fact. then this show was in Mannheim Aug 86. My memory can get fuzzy after 35+ years 😎, especially when all such such events were mired in booze and grass and hard partying . Well no hard partying anymore. People got scared of HARD partying with me about 10-15 years ago. LOL
